Soybean oil-based alkyd resin was prepared using soy-based polyol, maleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride. The soy-based polyol was obtained through the epoxidization of soybean oil, followed by ring-opening with methanol and, the hydroxyl values of soybean oil-based polyols used in this reaction is 169.93 mgKOH/g. In the reactions of soy-based polyol, maleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride, the molar ratio of hydroxyl value is equal to carboxyl value and the molar ratio of maleic anhydride to phthalic anhydride is 2:1, 1:1 and 1:2, respectively. 1% hydroquinone based on total reactants was used as inhibitor of polymerization, 1% dibutyltin oxide was used as catalyst.

2-hydroxy-4-glycidyl ether benzophenone(HGEBP) is synthesized with 2,4-dihydoxy- benzophenone(UV-0) and epichlorohydrin(ECH) as starting material, then a series of chitosan (CS) based novel ultraviolet absorbers (CS-g-UV-0) are synthesized by the reaction of chitosan with HGEBP in isopropylcarbinol in the presence of sodium hydroxide. The products(CS-g-UV-0) are characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV spectrophotometer. The results of UV absorption show that anyone of the grafted products has a strong ultraviolet absorption area ranging from 280nm to 350nm and the maximum absorption peak presents at 291 nm. It is found that the grafted products could improve the moisture-absorption and moisture-retention property with the increase of G% values.

Reaction of the moiety 3-nitro phthalic anhydride with p- Phenylene diamine in (40 ml) acetic acid to give compound (p-amino phenyl)-3-nitro phthalimide (A1).Which that react with different aromatic aldehyde in ethanol absolute to give compounds hydrazone (A2-A5), then react this compounds (A2-A5) with chloro acetyl chloride in presence of TEA by using DMF as solvent to obtain 2-azetidinones (A6-A9).The compounds of all the newly synthesized structures were confirmed by and ,IR, 1H NMR as well as melting point. Some of these new structures showed antimicrobial activity (A7-A8) and anti-bacterial activity (A7-A8).Antibacterial activity of some prepared compounds against two types of bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus (Gram positive) and E.coli (Gram negative). Some the compounds showed high inhibition activity against bacteria and two fungi (Candida albicans) and (Candida tropicalis.).

Number of new polyester and polyamide are prepared as derivatives from 5,5`-(1,4-phenylene)-bis-(1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-amine) [C1], three series of heterocyclic compounds were synthesized.The first series includes the Schiff base [C2] prepared from the reaction between compound [C1] with p-hydroxy benzaldehyde in presence of acetic acid and absolute ethanol , then these derivatives have reaction with maleic anhydride , phthalic anhydride and sodium azide, respectively to obtain the compounds [C3-5] contaning (oxazepine and tetrazole) rings.The third series of compounds [C1-5] has transformed to their polymers [C6-15] by reaction with adipoyl chloride and glutroyl chloride , respectively. The reaction was followed by T.L.C and identified by FT-IR , 1H-NMR ,C.H.N analysis , softening point , viscosity, TGA , DSC and X-ray.
