Abstract Direct-current generators, especially those based on the Schottky contact between conductive polymers and metal electrodes, are efficient in converting mechanical stimuli into electrical energy. In contrast to triboelectric and piezoelectric generators, direct-current generators readily produce direct-current outputs and high currents that are crucial for integrating multiple energy-harvesting units in large scale and driving some types of devices. To further increase the current/voltage output of direct-current generator, here, we systematically investigate the effects of various conductive polymers and electrodes on the outputs by both computations and experiments. Particularly, the direct-current generator based on Cu/PANI/Ag is found to exhibit overwhelmingly current and voltage outputs over previous ones (current: 800 µA, 4 times larger; voltage: 3.5 V, 5 times larger.) under the same mechanical deformation. The preparation method of electrochemical deposition endows the generators flexibility, the linear relationship of current/voltage output vs. strain applied on the generators, combined with the large outputs offer advantages for the generator to work as flexible sensors. Furthermore, a mechanosensation-active matrix array based on direct-current generator for the strain monitoring demonstrated its promising prospects in flexible electronics. The direct-current generators with improved performance could serve as a stream new blood for versatile sensory systems and human-machine interactive interfaces.

Transmission system reinforcement is an issue of great importance, in an effort to handle the increasing renewable power generation. Nevertheless, the upgrade of the transmission system (lines, substations, etc.) is not always attainable, due to techno-economical restrictions. To this context, High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) grids or converting already existing AC lines to DC lines could offer an alternative solution, considering also the interconnection of offshore intermittent renewable generation resources, the connection of remote generation sources to load centers and the inter-continental transfer of large quantities of energy surpassingly an overlay grid. The current work presents a research plan for multi- terminal HVDC grids, in an effort to face technical challenges.

In recent years, along with the continuous expansion of the scale of photovoltaic (PV) power generation in Tibet, the proportion of PV Grid-connected capacity for Tibet power grid became higher increasingly, which brought great challenges to the secure and stable operation of the grids. So we do those studies on the available capability of accommodating PV power generation of Tibet power grid. Based on the way of capacity of peak load regulation and the minimum output in 2012, this paper simulates and analyzes the available capability of accommodating PV power generation under three boundary conditions, considering the factor of Qinghai-Tibet direct current participating in regulation. The analysis supports that the rate of discharging light accounts for 34.09 percent, 20.57 percent and 5.61 percent after PV power station connecting to the grid, if regardless of the measures of depth peak load regulation such as discharging light.
