The design method for impulsive wave pressure with very short duration time is important to prevent material destruction but is not establish yet, though there is a possibility that the coastal concrete structures will be destroyed by waves or tsunami. In this study, we proposed a simple method to design structure for impulsive wave pressure and confirmed the validity of this method by large flume experiments. A simple evaluation of impact response in a single mass system problem was applied. The ratio of duration time and natural period determines whether to examine by impulse damage or dynamic expansion. In the latter case, Mstatic times Lmax is compared with the bending strength. By this method, we can evaluate simply without dynamic analysis.Recorded Presentation from the vICCE (YouTube Link): https://youtu.be/4h5pOHM-Jco

As environmental regulations have been strengthened worldwide since the Paris Climate Agreement, the automobile industry is shifting its production paradigm to focus on eco-friendly vehicles such as electric vehicles and hydrogen-battery vehicles. Governments are banning fossil fuel vehicles by law and expanding the introduction of green vehicles. The energy efficiency of electric vehicles that use a limited power source called batteries depends on the driving environment. Applying a two-speed transmission to an electric vehicle can optimize average speed and performance efficiency at low speeds, and achieve maximum speed with minimal torque at high speeds. In this study, a two-speed transmission for an electric vehicle has been developed, to be used in a compact electric vehicle. This utilizes a planetary gear of a total of three pairs, made of a single module which was intended to enable two-speed. The ring gear was removed, and the carrier was used in common. When shifting, the energy used for the speed change is small, due to the use of the simple method of fixing the sun gear of each stage. Each gear was designed by calculating bending strength and surface durability, using JGMA standards, to secure stability. The safety factor of the gears used in the transmission is as follows: all gears have been verified for safety with a bending strength of 1.2 or higher and a surface pressure strength of 1.1 or higher. The design validity of the transmission was verified by calculating the gear meshing ratio and the reference efficiency of the gear. The transmission to be developed through the research results of this paper has a simple and compact structure optimized for electric vehicles, and has reduced shift shock. In addition, energy can be used more efficiently, which will help improve fuel economy and increase drive range.

AbstractCurrent studies on cable harness layouts have mainly focused on cable harness route planning. However, the topological structure of a cable harness is also extremely complex, and the branch structure of the cable harness can affect the route of the cable harness layout. The topological structure design of the cable harness is a key to such a layout. In this paper, a novel multi-branch cable harness layout design method is presented, which unites the probabilistic roadmap method (PRM) and the genetic algorithm. First, the engineering constraints of the cable harness layout are presented. An obstacle-based PRM used to construct non-interference and near to the surface roadmap is then described. In addition, a new genetic algorithm is proposed, and the algorithm structure of which is redesigned. In addition, the operation probability formula related to fitness is proposed to promote the efficiency of the branch structure design of the cable harness. A prototype system of a cable harness layout design was developed based on the method described in this study, and the method is applied to two scenarios to verify that a quality cable harness layout can be efficiently obtained using the proposed method. In summary, the cable harness layout design method described in this study can be used to quickly design a reasonable topological structure of a cable harness and to search for the corresponding routes of such a harness.

A cascade design-method is presented which complements the meridional through-flow design procedure of turbomachines. Starting from an axisymmetric flow field and the streamline geometry in the meridional plane this simple method produces a solution for the quasi three-dimensional flow field and the blade-element geometry on corresponding stream surfaces. In addition, it provides intra-blade data on loss and turning required for a consistent design and a convenient means of optimizing blade loading. The purpose of this paper is to describe the theoretical basis of the method and to illustrate its application in the design of transonic compressors.

A design method of modular joint is proposed according to the complicated structure, line exposed and heavier characteristics of multi-DOF (degree of freedom) mechanical arm. In this paper, the design of modular joint was carried on and a model of six-DOF mechanical arm was built through the research on the structure of mechanical arm. On this basis, dynamics simulation will be carried. The results show that the modular design method simplified the structure of the mechanical arm, the dynamics simulation proved it was feasible for the structure design and drive selection.

This paper describes our work on a small, hand-launched, solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) suitable for low temperatures and high altitudes, which has the perpetual flight potential for conservation missions for rare animals in the plateau area in winter. Firstly, the conceptual design method of a small, solar-powered UAV based on energy balance is proposed, which is suitable for flight in high-altitude and low-temperature area. The solar irradiance model, which can reflect the geographical location and time, was used. Based on the low-temperature discharge test of the battery, a battery weight model considering the influence of low temperature on the battery performance was proposed. Secondly, this paper introduces the detailed design of solar UAV for plateau area, including layout design, structure design, load, and avionics. To increase the proportion of solar cells covered, the ailerons were removed and a rudder was used to control both roll and yaw. Then, the dynamics model of an aileron-free layout UAV was developed, and the differences in maneuverability and stability of aileron-free UAV in plateau and plain areas were analyzed. The control law and trajectory tracking control law were designed for the aileron-free UAV. Finally, the flight test was conducted in Qiangtang, Tibet, at an altitude of 4500 m, China’s first solar-powered UAV to take off and land above 4500 m on the plateau in winter (−30 °C). The test data showed the success of the scheme, validated the conceptual design method and the success of the control system for aileron-free UAV, and analyzed the feasibility of perpetual flight carrying different loads according to the flight energy consumption data.

Aircraft lug joint is the key part of load transfer. In order to improve the safety of lug joint, on the premise of meeting the design requirements of static strength and fatigue, the composite connection lug structure design technology of different metal materials is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the damage safety design and life reliability analysis of the lug structure are studied theoretically. Secondly, based on the concept of damage safety design and the design principle of deformation coordination, the design method of composite connection lug with deformation coordination is proposed, and the thickness ratio of single ear is 0.8:1:0.8. Finally, the reliability of the composite lug is analyzed. The results show that the structural design scheme of aluminum-titanium composite ear piece can meet the requirements of static strength and damage tolerance, and compared with the conventional ear structure, the failure probability of structure mission life is greatly reduced when the weight of the composite connection lug is only increased by 4.9%. The proposed method can effectively guide the structural design of composite ear piece.

Abstract The transformation during wave propagation is significantly important for the calculations of hydraulic and coastal engineering, as well as the sediment transport. The exact wave height deformation calculation on the coasts is essential to near-shore hydrodynamics research and the structure design of coastal engineering. According to the wave shoaling results gained from the elliptical cosine wave theory, the nonlinear wave dispersion relation is adopted to develop the expression of the corresponding nonlinear wave shoaling coefficient. Based on the extended elliptic mild slope equation, an efficient wave numerical model is presented in this paper for predicting wave deformation across the complex topography and the surf zone, incorporating the nonlinear wave dispersion relation, the nonlinear wave shoaling coefficient and other energy dissipation factors. Especially, the phenomenon of wave recovery and second breaking could be shown by the present model. The classical Berkhoff single elliptic topography wave tests, the sinusoidal varying topography experiment, and complex composite slopes wave flume experiments are applied to verify the accuracy of the calculation of wave heights. Compared with experimental data, good agreements are found upon single elliptical topography and one-dimensional beach profiles, including uniform slope and step-type profiles. The results indicate that the newly-developed nonlinear wave shoaling coefficient improves the calculated accuracy of wave transformation in the surf zone efficiently, and the wave breaking is the key factor affecting the wave characteristics and need to be considered in the nearshore wave simulations.
