Kulon Progo Airport is an airport development project located in the coastal area near Yogyakarta, Indonesia, which is expected to complete in 2019. With the increase in population, huge land acquisition will be difficult, so the development of coastal areas for the airport became inevitable. Kulon Progo is located in the disaster-prone zone area of the earthquake and tsunami, the airport design must consider the risk management and mitigation from tsunami and earthquake disaster. Although the airport is already calculated the danger of earthquake and tsunami, the development of the coastal area also needs to consider the danger of the natural coastal process itself such as sedimentation and erosion. Shoreline changes due to the new infrastructure in the coastal area can disrupt the equilibrium of coastal process especially the longshore sediment transport. A satellite image shows that Kulon Progo shoreline retreats over 60 meters due to the heavy sediment longshore transport in the past 10 years. Breakwaters in Tanjung Adikarto fishing port also made a great contribution in huge sedimentation behind the infrastructure up to 90 meters. This research will conduct an analysis trough satellite and numerical model to observe the shoreline changes along Kulon Progo Coast. A numerical model shows a high erosion rate along the coast. High sedimentation also observed at the river mouth of Bogowonto and Serang Rivers.

Research on marine dynamics, including coastal wave motions, is a concern of countries in the world in general and Vietnam in particular. Coastal wave dynamics has a direct impact on human activities including coastal construction, shipping, irrigation, aquatic resources exploitation, etc. The coastal area of Nhat Le, Quang Binh is one of the areas strongly influenced by the coastal wave regime which increases the risk of coastal erosion, estuarine sedimentation, destroys the economic life, affects marine fishing and directly affects the tourist beach area. This article aims to introduce some research results based on the application of MIKE21-SW model of the Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI) to simulate coastal wave regime in Nhat Le coastal zone, Quang Binh province. The model results are verified by real-time wave data in long-term from the WaMoS® II Radar System at Quang Binh station. The results show that there are many similarities in wave height and direction between the computational model and the actual observation data from the radar system. This result will be an important basis for research and application for coastal protection, reduction in river mouth sedimentation, clearing and flood drainage in the study area.

Kata Kunci: Majunya garis pantai, Sedimen, Rembang The emerging land in Rembang coastal area is very widely distributed. This is due to a very flat coastal morphology and very high sedimentary supply especially found around river mouth area. Sediment supply from rivers mouthed to north Rembang coast form sea bottom surficial sediment. The sediment is also causing emerging land or accretion along the coastal area of Rembang. Based on coastal characteristics mapping Rembang coastal area consisted of sandy coast, muddy coast, rocky beach and reefy coast. Accretion occurred at sandy beach and reefy coast Keyword: Emerged Land, Sediment, Rembang

A compound mathematical model (COMOR) for the simulation of morphological changes in the coastal area is being developed. The model is very flexible; it can be composed according to the specific demands of the problem which is considered. So far the model is being applied in the advisory practice to predict initial morphological changes. Recent experiences have shown that the model is quite useful, although at present the knowledge of the individual coastal processes and their interactions is still insufficient to utilize it optimally. However, it is foreseen that in the near future such mathematical models will become a powerful tool in coastal engineering.

The coastal area is highly considered as one of the most complex areas to be handled by the traditional planning system. In managing coastal areas, there must be integrated coastal management between various related agencies, technically and physically. The management of the coastal area depends on the coastal manager's ability to recognize and comprehend the complexity of natural coastal processes. Thus, this paper addresses how GIS tool is embedded in the coastal management system from the perspectives of government agencies in Selangor. The objectives of this research are: to identify the present integration between coastal management and GIS at government agencies in Selangor coastal districts; and to study the application of GIS and related spatial information technologies to local government officials. Data were gathered through survey. The findings show positive relationship between coastal management and GIS in Selangor. Government agencies indeed has actively been using GIS as part of the management tool of the coastal area in Selangor This may eventually lead to GIS application being recognised as a significant tool to be used in coastal management.

The impact of the harbor built near the Mzymta river mouth on the pebble sediment transport along the coast and the coastal line transformation is assessed proceeding from the survey data comparison. Sediment accumulation in the wave chamber of the permeable southwestern barrier pier are considered and the possibility of its circumvention by pebble material is estimated. It is shown that the sediments transported along the pier penetrate into the numerous canyon openings and go deeper. As a result of the bottom erosion behind the port, the pebble beach in front of the shore-protective structure protecting the embankment from the waves has disappeared at the 1-km-long coast site, and its erosion continues. The absence of a wave-setting pebble beach poses a threat to the destruction of the coastal protection structure and the embankment.

Metapenaeus dobsoni (Miers 1878) shrimp, locally called “udang halus/kapur”, is a dominant penaeid shrimp caught in the coastal waters of East Aceh. The research was conducted in April and September of 2014-2015 and April 2016 in East Aceh waters aims to assess some biological aspects, distribution, stock density, and nursery ground of the shrimp management. Analysis on biological aspects include length-weight relationship, food habits, and carapace length at first maturity (Lm50). Sampling to determine distribution of the species was based on swept area method using mini beam trawl. Total 25 sampling sites selected representing estuary, river, and coastal area, respectively. Metapenaeus dobsoni has negative allometric growth pattern with trophic level as detritivore. Size at first maturity the carapace length of 1.3 cm. Stock density of Metapenaeus dobsoni in the juvenile and adolescent phase commonly found in mangroves-covered river area with relatively low salinity at the bottom waters and have mud as dominant substrate (fraction of silt and clay). The adolescent to adult phase found in the estuary (river mouth) and coastal area with sand as dominant substrate and high salinity waters. The main nursery grounds of Metapenaeus dobsoni found in Kuala Arakundo.

Abstract. Landwards of a MIS5 bar, a borehole core (SRA) was analyzed to establish the relationship between the lagoonal record and the raised beach deposits in the surroundings of the Antas river mouth and to reconstruct the Pleistocene palaeoenvironmental evolution of the southern Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula. 63 samples were recovered for amino acid racemization dating, 86 samples for sedimentological and paleontological determination, 37 samples for pollen identification and 54 for biomarker analysis. AAR revealed that the borehole record contains MIS11, MIS6 and MIS5 deposits, the latter extensively represented. During the end of MIS6 and MIS5, a sand barrier developed and created a shallow lagoon with alternating terrestrial inputs this process being common in other Mediterranean realms. Litho- and biofacies allowed the identification of distinct paleoenvironments through time, with the presence of a lagoonal environment alternating with alluvial fan progradation. Biomarkers indicated constant input from terrestrial plants, together with variable development of aquatic macrophytes. The palynological content allowed the reconstruction of the paleoclimatological conditions during MIS6 and 5, with evidence of seven scenarios characterized by alternating arid and relatively humid conditions.
