A mathematical model is described that is capable of predicting changes in the plan shape of a beach following the construction of sea defences or an alteration in the wave climate. The rate of change is calculated. The technique is illustrated by comparing model predictions with results from experiments carried out in a wave basin. The importance of the method in estimating coastal changes due to offshore dredging is mentioned, and the future development of the mathematical approach is outlined.

Based on the presented study results, it can be concluded that the distribution of tree numbers per diameter degrees (diameter structure) in the four measurements of the compartments 51 and 75, did not change. It was also concluded that one functional dependence could be applied for both compartments N=e5,9?e?0,39*d The result of the above is that also in the following measurements, the diameter structure will remain unchanged, in cases of the same or similar selection cuttings both by the scope and by the distribution of felled trees per diameter classes The primary objective of this type of study is to predict, based on a mathematical model of diameter structure development, effect of the scope of selection cuttings and the number of recruitments on the diameter structure, and the simulation of growth, the distribution of trees per diameter classes in the following measurement or measurements, i.e. to foresee the future development of selection stands.

Attention is drawn to situations in which the behaviour of individuals in a society does not result from well-known given laws or rules, but from the decisions and expectations of each individual. From this perspective, an unequal distribution of information will allow each individual to cope with his own sources of uncertainty which determine his freedom of action. Each individual will act according to the perception of a situation and his expectation of the future development of that situation. At the same time, each individual is informed by the decisions of other individuals: this may change the level of information about the situation and the expectation model used. By means of a simple mathematical model a simplified case will be described in which two individuals have to take a decision which will be a function of each individual's expectation. Some unexpected results will be presented and commented upon.

The prediction of the future development of an area based on a mathematical model is a field which is highly topical and very beneficial to contemporary urbanism. One of mathematical modeling tools is the Modified Dynamic Model (MDM). This article focuses on identifying the elements which enter a model in case of the prediction of brownfield regeneration, describes the mutual relations between these elements, and explains how these relations can be numerically evaluated. Then it applies the outlined theoretical procedure in practice to a model of the development of one of the brownfields in Ostrava.

The article examines the state of the Holocaust historiography in Ukraine for the period of 2010 – beginning of 2014. The review analyzes activities of major research and educational organizations in Ukraine which have significant part of projects devoted to the Holocaust; main publications and discussions on the Holocaust in Ukraine, including publications of Ukrainian authors in academic European and American journals. The article illustrates contemporary tendencies and conditions of the Holocaust Studies in Ukraine, defines major problems and shows perspectives of the future development of the Holocaust historiography in Ukraine.

This paper,first presented on 21 October 1995 at ajoint seminar ofthe Scottish Law Commission and the Faculty of Law, University of Edinburgh, on the subject of breach of contract, considers the future development of the law in this area, first by considering its history and current state in comparative terms and drawing the conclusion that it is characterised by a mixture of Civilian and Common Law elements; second, by comparing Scots law with the provisions on breach contained in recently published proposals for a harmonised law of contract (the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts, the Principles of European Contract Law prepared by the Lando Commission, and the draft “code”for the United Kingdom prepared on behalf of the English Law Commission by Harvey McGregor in the late 1960s) and in international conventions on the sale of goods. Although Scots law emerges reasonably wellfrom this exercise, there are a number of points to be taken on board in any future reform, as well as some insights into important underlying principles.

A practical and concise total synthesis of tricyclic ketone 7 (CDE ring), a valuable intermediate for the synthesis of racemic camptothecin and analogs, was described (8 chemical steps and 29% overall yield). The synthesis starts with two inexpensive, readily available materials and is operationally simple to perform. It is worth mentioning that the reported protecting group-free synthesis, with advantages of a short route, would be helpful for the future development of industry-scale syntheses of camptothecin-family alkaloids.
