ABSTRACTOrganic electroluminescent (EL) diodes based on fluorescent dyes and conducting polymers have attracted the interest of researchers, mainly because of their emission in the visible region and for application to large area portable flat panel display devices, driven at low voltages. Therefore, for the development of higher efficiency polymer EL diodes, the optimal combination of the merits of organic fluorescent dye molecules with that of conjugated polymer is an important approach. We report electroluminescence studies of polymer light emitting diodes (p-LEDs) fabricated with poly[2-(3-thienyl)ethanol n-butoxy carbonylmethyl urethane] (PURET) and its composite with 4-dicyanomethylene-2-methyl-6-(p-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H pyran (DCM) dye. These materials have been chosen in view of the fact that PURET exhibits a small overlap between emission and absorption spectra whereas DCM has a good efficiency of trapping both electrons as well as holes. Polyaniline has been utilized as hole injecting layer whereas tris-8-hydroxyquinoline-aluminum as electron injecting layer. Enhanced electroluminescence with bright yellow color has been observed in p-LEDs by the addition of dye.

A beneficial aspect of the use of fiber preparations in the meat industry is the improvement of some quality characteristics of meat products. However, the preparation added in the amount of 3 or 6% may affect their color. The effect of the addition of barley, wheat and oat fiber preparations with different fiber lengths, in quantities allowing the product to be indicated as “high in fiber” or “source of fiber”, to pasteurized or sterilized medium-grounded canned meat products on their color, was determined. In the obtained canned meat products, the basic chemical composition and the L*, a* and b*, C* (Chroma) and h* (hue angle) color components were determined. The addition of the barley fiber preparation BG 300 to the model canned meat products caused a significant (p ≤ 0.05) darkening and an increase in the proportion of yellow color. In an industrial practice, this may result in poorer consumer acceptance of the meat product. Fiber length of wheat and barley fiber had no effect on the color components of products. The 6% addition of the wheat fiber preparations WF 200R and WF 600R or the oat fiber preparations HF 200 and HF 600 caused an apparent lightening of their color (ΔE > 2) compared to the control products.

Abstract Background Polymer-free biolimus A9-coated stent (DCS) has currently emerged as expected better arterial healing compared to durable polymer drug-eluting stent (DP-DES). However, superiority of DCS on arterial healing over DP-DES has not been well elucidated using intracoronary images. Methods This study examined 288 stents in 224 patients with de novo coronary artery lesions. We angioscopically compared 55 DCS from 35 patients with 233 DP-DES from 189 patients 10±2 months after the implantation. We assessed thrombus adhesion, which is a marker of incomplete re-endothelialization. Dominant neointimal coverage (NIC) grade, heterogeneity of NIC and maximum yellow color of plaque underneath the stent were also evaluated. Neointimal coverage was graded as follows: grade 0, stent struts exposed; grade 1, struts bulged into the lumen, although covered; grade 2, struts embedded by the neointima, but translucent; grade 3, struts fully embedded and invisible. NIC was judged as heterogeneous when differences in the NIC grade became apparent. Yellow plaque was graded as follows: grade 0, white; grade 1, light yellow; grade 2, yellow; grade 3, intensive yellow. Results Thrombus adhesion was similar between DCS and DP-DES (29% versus 23%, P=0.32). Dominant NIC was greater in DCS than in BP-DES (P<0.001), while NIC was more heterogeneous in DCS than in BP-DES (P=0.001, Figure). Maximum yellow color of stented segment was similar between DCS and DP-DES (P=0.09). Conclusion DCS provided similar thrombus adhesion to DP-DES, which suggested similar re-endothelialization 10 months after implantation. However, DCS showed thick and heterogeneous NIC compared to DP-DES. The specific feature of polymer-free and Biolimus A9 would cause the difference, and further investigation is necessary to evaluate the longer-term safety and efficacy. Acknowledgement/Funding None

Abstract We have shown in this and the preceding paper that fully compounded stocks can be analyzed for all main constituents by use of a combination of DSC, TG, and DTG. Further, this can be achieved on a time scale consistent with routine quality control. DSC gives information on cure characteristics, sulfur, and accelerator levels in approximately five minutes. Elastomer, elastomer ratio, carbon black, oil/plasticizer, and inorganic pigments are determined in about 35 minutes by TG/DTG, at a scan rate of 10°C/min. This time can be reduced by increasing the scan rate, but interference from highly exothermic reactions can be a limiting factor. Each compound must be treated individually to determine the maximum scan rate that can be used without impairing reproducibility. Clearly limitations exist for identification of unknown blends by DTG. The main problem is that many commercial elastomers have very similar thermal stabilities, which results in DTG peaks in the same temperature range. Further work is being undertaken with the DTG—gas chromatography interface to identify not only the pyrolysis products, but the temperature range over which they are evolved. In this manner, the DTG acts essentially as a thermal fraetionation unit and GC analysis of products from a given component in a blend can be achieved.
