Abstract Although cockroaches were the dominant insects in various Paleozoic and Mesozoic insect assemblages, their general morphology was extremely conservative. One of the most common of them, the Jurassic-Cretaceous family Mesoblattinidae, is described here for the first time on the basis of completely preserved specimens. Ninety-two specimens of Perlucipecta aurea gen. et sp. n. reveal details of head, mandible, male tergal glands and terminal hook; cercal, leg and antennal sensilla. Its congener, P. vrsanskyi is described from the same sediments of the Yixian Formation (Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous). The forewing venation variability of P. aurea, analysed for the first time in this family is nearly identical (CV = 6.23 %) with variability of two species of family Blattulidae that occur at the same locality (CV = 6.22 %; 5.72 %). The transitional nature of morphological characters represented by asymmetry between left and right wings (simple/branched forewing SC and hind wing M) in P. aurea documents the phylogenetic relation between the families Mesoblattinidae and Ectobiidae

Telmaeshna paradoxica gen. et sp. nov., is described from the Upper Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation, near Chaomidian Village, Beipiao City, Liaoning Province, China. It is included in the Anisoptera: Aeshnoptera: Aeshnomorpha: Panaeshnida, on the basis of the following characters: strongly elongated pterostigma; well-defined anal loop and Rspl; undulated RP2, RP3/4 and MA; divided hypertriangle and discoidal triangle; and prolonged gaff. It cannot be assigned to any described extant or extinct family of Panaeshnida, but we refrain from erecting a new family to accommodate it until more features (forewing, body characters) are known. Consequently, this new genus is provisionally retained as family uncertain. Its phylogenetic relationships within Anisoptera are discussed.

A new genus and species of well-preserved fossil Staphylinidae is described and illustrated. Glabrimycetoporus amoenus Yue, Zhao & Ren, gen. et sp. nov. is assigned to the tribe Mycetoporini in the subfamily Tachyporinae based on the following characters: head more or less inserted into prothorox, the tenth abdominal tergite broad and oblong; antennal insertions exposed and located anterior to a line drawn between anterior edges of eyes; body strongly tapered to the narrow head and abdominal apex. The specimen was discovered in the Upper Jurassic–Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation of Beipiao City, Liaoning Province, NE China.

A new species of the family Prophalangopsidae, Ashanga borealis sp.n., is described from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Fomation (Liaoning Province, P.R. China). The male forewing of the new species is similar to that of the Middle/Upper Jurassic species Ashanga clara Zherikhin 1985, but differs from it in possessing a forewing arched anterior margin, RS branching more basally, and MP + CuA1 with more branches. The fossil record of Chifengiinae is reviewed.

A new genus with a new species (Shoushida regilla gen. et sp. nov.) of pelecinid wasps is described and illustrated. The fossil has been collected from the Upper Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous of Yixian Formation at Huangbanjigou Village, Liaoning Province, China. The new species has vein Rs forking to two branches: Rs 1 straight and reaching wing margin much before apex and Rs 2 long, forming an “X” pattern together with 2r-rs. This finding represents the earliest fossil record of subfamily Pelecininae in the world up to date. Sexual dimorphism in Pelecinidae is briefly discussed.

A new monotypic genus of Spelaeogriphacea is described from the Upper Jurassic of Liaoning Province, north-east China. This new genus and species brings the number of known spelaeogriphacean taxa to four, the others being two recent forms from Brazil and South Africa, and one from the Carboniferous of eastern Canada. The new Chinese form is morphologically(and phylogenetically) very similar to the recent spelaeogriphaceans, suggesting that the body plan seenin the recent Spelaeogriphacea was achieved relatively early in the history of the group. A cladistic analysis of this and several other peracaridan orders indicates that the Spelaeogriphacea may be a paraphyletic group. This suggests that much work remains to be done with respect to the taxonomy and phylogenetic relationships among the peracaridan taxa.

Fossils of marine reptiles are a new jewelry and ornamental material and collected in the Ulyanovsk region from the Upper Jurassic deposits. They consist of (wt. %): calcite — 52, apatite — 24 and pyrite — 23, and also gypsum presents. The contents of radioactive and carcinogenic elements are close to background. The original bone structure of reptiles is preserved. Apatite replaces the bone tissue of marine reptiles, forming a cellular framework. According to the chemical composition, apatite refers to fluorohydroxyapatite with an increased Sr content. The size of the crystals is finely-dispersed. Calcite and pyrite fill the central parts of the cells. Calcite crystals of isometric and elongated shape, 0,01—0,05 mm in size, form blocks up to 0,3 mm during intergrowth. Calcite fills thin, discontinuous veins along the contour of cells with a width of up to 0,03 mm. In calcite, among the impurity elements, there are (wt. %, on the average): Mg — 0,30, Mn — 0,39 and Fe — 0,96. Pyrite forms a dispersed impregnation in calcite and apatite, content of impurities is, wt. %: Ni — up to 0,96 and Cu — up to 0,24. On technological and decorative characteristics of fossils of sea reptiles of Ulyanovsk region are qualitative jewelry and ornamental materials of biomineral group, allowing to make a wide assortment of jewelry and souvenir products.
