Objective The purpose of this study is to determine attitudes of doctors of chiropractic regarding the importance of staff training in specific skill areas to inform the curriculum management process of a chiropractic technology program. Methods A survey was distributed to registrants of a chiropractic homecoming event. On a 5-point Likert scale, respondents were asked to rate the degree of importance that staff members be trained in specific skills. Descriptive statistics were derived, and a 1-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test differences between groups based on years in practice and level of staff training. Results Doctors place a high level of importance on oral communication skills and low importance on nutrition and physical examinations. Comparing groups based on years in practice revealed differences in the areas of passive physiotherapies (F = 3.61, p = .015), legal issues/regulations (F = 3.01, p = .032), occupational safety and health regulation (F = 4.27, p = .006), and marketing (F = 2.67, p = .049). Comparing groups based on level of staff training revealed differences in the areas of occupational safety and health regulations (F = 4.56, p = .005) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (F = 4.91, p = .003). Conclusion With regard to their assistants, doctors of chiropractic tend to place high importance on office skills requiring effective communication and place less importance on clinical skills such as physical examinations and physiotherapy.

The article deals with the issues of developing creative personality in future lecturers in professional education (occupational safety and health) in the context of research activities during professional training. The article proves that the development of creative personality expands the limits of students’ learning and research activities. Professional pedagogical training of future lecturers in professional education (occupational safety and health) for research and creative activities contributes to developing new knowledge and skills in the organization of research in accordance with professional qualities of lecturers. Based on the analysis of scientific sources, the concept of creativity in future lecturers in professional education (occupational safety and health) is regarded as a comprehensive activity and development of something new, which is the opposite to a stereotyped pattern activity, and shapes creative imagination characterized by the high level of creativity, pronounced personal qualities and сapacity for creative and research activities, which contribute to effective professional performance. The readiness for research activities in future lecturers in professional education (occupational safety and health) is defined as the result of professional training and a qualitative characteristic of their creative activities based on relevant abilities and skills required to conduct research activities and projects, which allow them to use the acquired skills when conducting scientific research due to the well-developed theoretical foundations of the essence and content of the research process. The article shows that research activities are a powerful mechanism for developing creativity in future lecturers in professional education (occupational safety and health) and one of the main objectives of higher education in accordance with the new requirements of society for professional training of specialists able to solve professional and research tasks independently, actively and creatively.

The informal non-food manufacturing sector is an engine of growth and development in both developed and developing countries. The sector is unregulated and unregistered in official government statistics. However this particular sector is faced with occupational safety and health hazards without preventive measures. The study assessed knowledge and attitudes on practices of occupational safety and health in the informal non-food manufacturing sector in Kampala City, Uganda. It adopted across sectional survey design that involved both qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques. A total of 424 firms were sampled from the 6 clusters of the informal sector. Respondents were moderately knowledgeable on hazards with 39.7% compared to 25.5% who reported high level of exposure. Overall the knowledge on occupational safety and health hazards was inadequate while attitude especially on the use of PPE was poor. There was a high level on knowledge towards hazard control measures by complying with the safety measures (PPE 52.6% and good housekeeping 54.4%) although no significant difference was observed in their adherence to control measures. Attitude towards the use of control measures was found to moderate with PPE 62.9% and good housekeeping 61.1% Creation of awareness, training, and application of Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, inspection and enforcement by the relevant regulatory agency as well as proactive multi-media strategies to improve the situation is recommended.

<p>The study determined the levels of knowledge, awareness, and compliance of engineers and workers with respect to the required occupational safety and health (OSH) program of construction companies contracted by educational institutions in Davao City. Employing a descriptive correlation approach, this investigation ascertained the relationship between the levels of safety awareness and compliance of the respondents for such program as advocated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). Through a researcher- made questionnaire (α = 0.957) and basic descriptive (mean and standard deviation) and inferential (Pearson r) statistics, findings reveal that the high level of knowledge is attributed to the observance of government training and regulations on safety through the DOLE in cooperation with DPWH, on the construction sites. Furthermore, there is a high level of awareness among engineers and workers regarding the implementation of safety and health program of the contractors hired by the educational institutions. A very high compliance level for engineer respondents implies that there is a strong commitment to obey what is mandated by DOLE Order 13 regarding safety and health program even if the worker respondents are only perceived to abide by the rules and regulations set by the company vis-á-vis safety and health program. Results also uphold that the level of safety awareness is a factor that is strongly associated with the level of safety compliance.</p>

In terms of occupational safety and health (OSH) management system functioning at the enterprises of the Coal Business Unit of DTEK ENERGO LLC, a number of procedures and techniques have been developed and implemented for improving the OSH management system. However, rate of injuries and accidents is still fairly high at these enterprises. It is proposed to describe effectiveness of the OSH management system as a catastrophe of the “assembly” type. It is further proposed to describe effectiveness of the OSH functioning in mine by a potential function. To this end, probability of an accident (injury) is considered as a coordinate of the disaster, level of development of the coal mining technology means an external parameter, and the internal parameter is presented by the level of readiness of miners to perform processes and operations. With increase of internal control parameter characterizing level of the miners’ readiness to perform basic and auxiliary processes and operations, probability of accident and injury generally decreases; however, this curve is bifurcated by its nature. With increase of external control parameter – i.e. level of technology development - the curve narrows, while width of the catastrophe band decreases. At sufficiently high level of technology development, the system exists only in one state of equilibrium; but when passing a certain critical value, splitting and two alternative stable states appear. The area of the curve, which is limited by critical values of the level of miners’ readiness to perform technological processes and operations, determines an undesirable effect or a value reciprocal to the OSH effectiveness in the mine. At insufficiently high level of technology, a catastrophe (high probability of an accident) can happen both at insignificant and sufficiently high level of the miners’ readiness. In practice, in each mine, these parameters should be normalized and set according to the results of expert evaluation; and quantitative indicators of the level of miner’s readiness to perform processes and operations can be obtained during the psychophysical testing.
