We show that the action of self-dual supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in four dimensions, which describes the consistent massless background fields for N=2 superstring, generates the actions for N=1 and N=2 supersymmetric non-Abelian Chern-Simons theories in three dimensions after some dimensional reductions. Since the latters play important roles for supersymmetric integrable models, this result indicates the fundamental significance of the N=2 superstring theory controlling (possibly all) supersymmetric integrable models in lower dimensions.

Abstract In this article we present bosonic T-dualization in double space of the type II superstring theory in the pure spinor formulation. We use the action with constant background fields obtained from the general case under some physically and mathematically justified assumptions. Unlike Nikolić and Sazdović (EPJ C 77:197, 2017), where we used the first-order theory, in this article fermionic momenta are integrated out. Full T-dualization in double space is represented as a permutation of the initial $$x^\mu $$xμ and T-dual coordinates $$y_\mu $$yμ. Requiring that a T-dual transformation law of the T-dual double coordinate $${}^\star Z^M=(y_\mu ,x^\mu )$$⋆ZM=(yμ,xμ) to be of the same form as for initial one $$Z^M=(x^\mu ,y_\mu )$$ZM=(xμ,yμ), we obtain the form of the T-dual background fields in terms of the initial ones. The advantage of using the action with integrated fermionic momenta is that it gives all T-dual background fields in terms of the initial ones. In the case of the first-order theory Nikolić and Sazdović (2017) a T-dual R-R field strength was obtained out of the double space formalism under additional assumptions.

We compute the boundary state corresponding to a fractional Dp-brane with transverse motion and internal background fields: Kalb–Ramond and a U(1) gauge field. The space–time has the orbifold structure [Formula: see text]. The calculations are in the superstring theory. Using this boundary state we shall obtain the interaction amplitude between two parallel moving fractional Dp-branes. We shall extract behavior of the interaction amplitude for large distances of the branes.

Abstract We study modular invariants arising in the four-point functions of the stress tensor multiplet operators of the $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 4 SU(N) super-Yang-Mills theory, in the limit where N is taken to be large while the complexified Yang-Mills coupling τ is held fixed. The specific four-point functions we consider are integrated correlators obtained by taking various combinations of four derivatives of the squashed sphere partition function of the $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2∗ theory with respect to the squashing parameter b and mass parameter m, evaluated at the values b = 1 and m = 0 that correspond to the $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 4 theory on a round sphere. At each order in the 1/N expansion, these fourth derivatives are modular invariant functions of (τ,$$ \overline{\tau} $$ τ ¯ ). We present evidence that at half-integer orders in 1/N , these modular invariants are linear combinations of non-holomorphic Eisenstein series, while at integer orders in 1/N, they are certain “generalized Eisenstein series” which satisfy inhomogeneous Laplace eigenvalue equations on the hyperbolic plane. These results reproduce known features of the low-energy expansion of the four-graviton amplitude in type IIB superstring theory in ten-dimensional flat space and have interesting implications for the structure of the analogous expansion in AdS5× S5.

We suggest a new mechanism for electroweak symmetry breaking in the supersymmetric Standard Model. Our suggestion is based on the presence of an anomalous U (1)A gauge symmetry, which naturally arises in the four-dimensional superstring theory, and heavily relies on the value of the corresponding Fayet–Illiopoulos ξ-term.

We study the target space duality transformations in p-branes as transformations which mix the world volume field equations with Bianchi identities. We consider an (m+p+1)-dimensional space-time with p+1 dimensions compactified, and a particular form of the background fields. We find that while a GL (2) = SL (2) × R group is realized when m = 0, only a two-parameter group is realized when m > 0.
