A QoS aware routing protocol for Wireless Mesh Networks is studied in this paper, the QoS metrics taken into account are bandwidth in our studies, end to end delay and stability of the routes. The routing metric reflects the maximal available bandwidth of a routing path, which is calculated based on the available bandwidth of mesh nodes with the consideration of the interference caused by the hidden terminals in WMNs. With the help of admission control decision, QRBC uses the routing metric in the route discovery process to find a QoS guarantee route for the real-time applications. The simulation results demonstrate that the QRBC protocol can find a less interfering and bandwidth guaranteed routing path for real-time flows.

Routing metrics proposed for Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) has various concerns like hop count, packet transmission delay, power consumption, congestion control, load balance and message collision. The routing metric of expected effective capacity (EEC) proposed in this paper guarantees to a select a path providing maximum throughput and minimum delay. A forwarding link constituting routing path is characterized by its quality, capacity, traffic demand and the degree of intervention experienced due to inter-flow and intra-flow interference. Thus the bandwidth actually attainable on a link for a flow is affected by those link properties. Our proposed metric computes the attainable bandwidth for a flow over a path which actually reflects congestion, node delay and traffic pressure on the desired path. Experiments conducted on ns-2 simulations demonstrate that our proposed routing metric can achieve significant improvements in overall network throughput, minimize end-to-end delay and able to distribute network load.

Cognitive wireless mesh networks use network coding techniques can improve the transmission performance. Thus, a new load-balanced routing measure CRM-LB(Coding-aware Routing Metric with Load Balancing) based on network coding was presented, the CRM-LB increase of the considerations of traffic concentration level congestion level all nodes on the path P based on CRM(Coding-aware Routing Metric). Further proposed cognitive wireless mesh networks multicast routing CLR(Coding and Load-balancing Routing) based on the CRM-LB. The protocol can increase network coding opportunities, taking into account the network load balancing. The performance analysis and simulation results show that the protocol, under the premise of improving throughput, not only to better support network coding, and to achieve load balancing in network.
