Abstract Background Diseases caused by nontyphoid Salmonella can range from mild, to self-limiting gastroenteritis and severe invasive infection. Relatively rarely, Salmonella may cause severe encephalopathy. Case presentation We report a suspected case of Bickerstaff’s brainstem encephalitis caused by Salmonella Dublin. A young man presented with impaired consciousness, ataxia, dysarthria, limb weakness, and restricted eyeball abduction. His clinical symptoms were consistent with Bickerstaff’s brainstem encephalitis. Conclusions This is the first case report of Bickerstaff’s brainstem encephalitis caused by Salmonella Dublin in the literature. After treatment, he recovered and was discharged. Early antibiotic treatment of sepsis may control the disease and avoid serious encephalopathy.

Granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) has been widely used as a mobilizing agent to rapidly increase peripheral blood stem and progenitor cells. Limited data is available for G-CSF-associated late-onset coronary thrombosis and thrombocytosis. We report a case of a 23-year-old Chinese Han patient who presented with acute myocardial infarction and thrombocytosis after finishing bone marrow harvesting and peripheral blood stem cell collection following G-CSF treatment several days later. By using antiplatelet drugs and undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, the patient’s symptoms were relieved and his platelet level decreased to normal. This is the first suspected case report of late-onset coronary thrombosis and thrombocytosis related to G-CSF. Caution should be taken for the delayed adverse reactions in patients undergoing G-CSF mobilizing.

It is a rare event that a patient suspected to have a subglottic stenosis actually has a foreign body bronchus. We report a suspected case of subglottic stenosis secondary to partial hanging and prolonged intubation. However, surprisingly the rigid bronchoscopy revealed a betel nut at the level of carina.

Subdiaphragmatic abscess is rather common itself but a tubercular subdiaphragmatic abscess in the absence of coexisting tuberculous abdomen presenting as thoracic complication is extremely rare. A cold abscess is an abscess that commonly accompanies tuberculosis. It develops so slowly that there is little inflammation and it becomes painful only when there is pressure on the surrounding area. Here we report a case of isolated subdiagphragmatic tuberculous cold abscess in a 38-year-old female whose imaging of the abdomen revealed a hyperechogenic area involving segment 7 of liver adherent to rib cage and diaphragm, S/O ruptured liver abscess, subdiagphragmatic abscess. The pus drained from the abscess cavity at diagnostic laparoscopy proved Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis. This case has been reported for the rarity of isolated subdiaphragmatic tuberculous abscess and the importance of microscopic or culture diagnosis in a suspected case of tuberculous abscess.
