A novel one-pot catalytic synthesis of 1-benzoylpyrene through acylation of pyrene with benzoyl chloride catalyzed by various Keggin type heteropoly acids (salts) was investigated. Pure 1-benzoylpyrene was obtained and the structure of 1-benzoylpyrene was identified by GC/MS, FT-IR and 1H NMR spectra. H3PW12O40 (PW) was found to be the most active catalyst in the acylation. The yield and the selectivity of 1-benzoylpyrene were up to 97.6 % and 100 %, respectively. The effects of experimental parameters on the catalytic acylation reaction and the recycling performance of PW catalyst were studied. PW catalyst shows well catalytic activity after running for 5 times. The facile product separation and the recycling performance of PW catalyst is expected to contribute to the development of clean and environmentally friendly strategy for the synthesis of 1-benzoylpyrene.

The heteropoly acid catalyst of H5PMo10V2O40 supported on SBA-15 mesoporous mole-cular sieve was prepared by an impregnation method and characterized by nitrogen physisorption, FT-IR,SEM, and used in catalytic synthesis of tributyl citrate. The results show that the heteropoly acid catalyst has fine dispersion characteristics, structural stability, high catalytic activity and better reusability.

A catalytic synthesis of cyclic guanidines, which are found in many biologically active compounds and natu-ral products, was developed, wherein transition-metal hydrogen atom transfer and radical-polar crossover were employed. This mild and functional-group tolerant process enabled the cyclization of alkenyl guanidines bearing common protective groups, such as Cbz and Boc. This powerful method not only provided the common 5- and 6-membered rings but also an unusual 7-membered ring. The derivatization of the products afforded various heterocycles. We also investigated the se-lective cyclization of mono-protected or hetero-protected (TFA and Boc) alkenyl guanidines and their further derivatiza-tions.
