We demonstrate numerically and experimentally chiral metamaterials (MTMs) based on gammadion-bilayer cross-wires that uniaxially create giant optical activity and tunable circular dichroism as a result of the dynamic design. In addition, the suggested structure gives high negative refractive index due to the large chirality in order to obtain an efficient polarization converter. We also present a numerical analysis in order to show the additional features of the proposed chiral MTM in detail. Therefore, a MTM sensor application of the proposed chiral MTM is introduced and discussed. The presented chiral designs offer a much simpler geometry and more efficient outlines. The experimental results are in a good agreement with the numerical simulation. It can be seen from the results that, the suggested chiral MTM can be used as a polarization converter, sensor, etc. for several frequency regimes.

A novel chiral metasurface (CMS) based on T-shaped resonators is proposed and investigated numerically. The CMS is composed of a periodic array of bi-layered conjugated fourfold T-shaped structure. The retrieved effective electromagnetic (EM) parameters indicate that the multi-band negative refractive index associated with strong optical activity and circular dichroism (CD) effect is realized in terahertz (THz) region. The physical mechanism is illustrated by analyzing the current density distributions. Due to its exotic chiral optical properties, the proposed CMS is useful for the development of THz devices.

An asymmetrical chiral metamaterial at microwave frequency is constructed by using four double-layered L-shaped strips which are rotated by 900 with respect to their adjacent metal strip. These different size strips allows another degree of freedom in the equalizing the orthogonal components of the electric fields at the output interface with 90o phase difference when the x-polarized wave excites the structure. The proposed structure exhibits the properties of chiral medium such as optical activity and circular dichroism. The L shaped chiral objects can be etched on double side substrate. The effect of structure on different electromagnetic parameter like chirality, optical activity and reflection characteristics are analyzed. Due to the strong chirality the structure posses negative refractive index for either left circularly or right circularly polarized wave. In this paper, a numerical study in the frequency domain of the electromagnetic-wave propagation through these types of structures is achieved by using the commercial software Computer Simulation Technology (CST) microwave studio.
