Examina-se a concepção de universalismo ético a que Lawrence Kohlberg chegou em suas pesquisas sobre o desenvolvimento do pensamento moral, sobretudo a idéia de que esse desenvolvimento, em todos os seres humanos, culmina em uma moralidade "pós-convencional" concebida em termos de princípios de justiça. Discutem-se algumas das tentativas que foram feitas de submeter essa concepção à verificação empírica e a apreciação crítica que dela fez Jürgen Habermas.

The present text presents a pedagogical account about an exhibition of the works of the Norwegian painter: Edvard Munch, in a class of higher education. The exhibition closes a teaching unit on morals and ethics, where Lawrence Kolhberg's theory of moral development was approached. The experiences demonstrated how the students' interaction was largely satisfactory and how the use of art in the classroom can be an auspicious formation experience, provided that the objective conditions, that is, the proper preparation and organization of didactic aspects, as well as mediation pedagogic it enables a kind of "awareness of the student to contemplation".ResumoO presente texto apresenta um relato pedagógico sobre uma exposição das obras do pintor norueguês: Edvard Munch, em uma turma de ensino superior. A exposição encerrou uma unidade didática sobre moral e ética, na qual a teoria do desenvolvimento moral de Lawrence Kolhberg foi abordada. A experiência evidenciou como a interação dos alunos foi amplamente satisfatória e como o uso da arte em sala de aula pode ser uma experiência formativa auspiciosa, contanto que as condições objetivas, isto é, a devida preparação e organização dos aspectos didáticos, tanto quanto a mediação pedagógica possibilitem uma espécie de "sensibilização do olhar" discente.Palavras-chave: Arte, Edvard Munch, Educação, Moral e Ética.Keywords: Art, Edvard Munch, Education, Moral, Ethic.ReferencesASSIS, Eliasaf Rodrigues de et al. Care ethics, and moral sentimentalism more generally, have not developed a picture of moral education that is comparable in scope or depth to the rationalist/Kantian/Rawlsian account of moral education that has been offered by Lawrence Kohlberg. But it is possible to do so if one borrows from the work of Martin Hoffman and makes systematic use of Hume’s earlier sentimentalist ideas. Kohlberg and Rawls offer accounts of moral learning that leave moral motivation largely unexplained or mysterious, but an emphasis on the psychology of empathy can help us to better understand both the content of our morality and the ways in which children and adults can become and be morally motivated. Parents can in a number of ways evoke and strengthen children’s empathic moral tendencies, and such processes can also occur and need to occur in schools and later on in life. In addition, a sentimentalist understanding of the meaning of moral terms can show how moral rules, principles, and injunctions can strongly reinforce the sorts of empathic/moral tendencies that are at least initially based in other elements of human psychology.

There is considerable merit in Lawrence Kohlberg and Rochelle Mayer's approach to the definition of educational aims (HER, November, 1972) but their position is vulnerable and their presentation inadequate. First, let me point out some severe weaknesses in their position.
