“Frontier tourism” or tourisme de partage is a genuine typology of tourism which has these four features: space (geographic), time (historic), experience (motivations and behaviours) and sharing cultural heritage (material or immaterial). The border lands of Alto Vinalopó (Alicante-Spain) have a paradoxical and dual element in the sense that they operate as a territory with common customs and traditions which share many similarities with other territories, but at the same time they show a number of contrasts and peculiarities. Reorganized now as potential tourist attractions, these deep-rooted ethnographic displays are becoming consumable products, which are struggling to find a differential position in the leisure business. This article is aimed at illustrating this process, analysing its sociocultural, economic and promotional variables by considering a particular event: the Moors and Christians festival in Villena. These ancient celebrations convey their own values and signs of identity which have also served to stimulate and diversify the local economy. Besides, after being officially declared in 2015 a national tourist attraction, with the “4th September, All Mad” campaign, this festival has generated challenges, uncertainties and opportunities for tourist development which will demand the right creative strategies and economic management to succeed.

MOTHER ROMANA'S SACRED LABYRINTH: TOURISM AND CULTURAL HERITAGE IN BOM JESUS DE NAZARÉ CENTER IN NATIVIDADE, TOCANTINS, BRAZIL Abstract: Sacred places are spaces delimited by certain individuals that give it a differentiated meaning. Even so, this feature does not prevent such spaces from being used as tourist attractions. Bom Jesus de Nazaré Center is an example of how these two phenomena are related. Located on the site of Jacuba, in Natividade (state of Tocantins, Brazil), the space is composed of open air sculptural monuments built by Mãe Romana according to her mystical visions. Due to the unique characteristics of her work and monuments, the site attracts many visitors throughout the year. This article analyzed the dynamics in this place that is sacred and touristic at the same time, through a historical review on the following concepts: sacred, tourism and cultural heritage; and from the perception of the individuals who inhabit it. The research, of an exploratory nature, was built from bibliographic review and semi-structured interview in situ in Natividade. Through them, it was possible to perceive an ambivalent relation regarding the tourist practice that happens there, in which it contributes to the valorization of the place and of its inhabitants, at the same time that tourism can produce conflicts due to the flow of people. This work is presented as an initial step in the analysis of tourism activity as a vector for valuing this heritage, while proposing a critical analysis of its impacts. Keywords: Tourism; Cultural Legacy; Romana Mother of Natividade; Sacred. In Cirebon there are three palaces, namely Keraton Kasepuhan, Keraton Kanoman and Keraton Kacirebon. Until now, the three palaces still show their existence through tourist attractions, especially pilgrimage tours. Pilgrimages to the tomb of Sunan Gunung Jati, as one of the walisongo (propagators of Islam in Java) and also the ancestors of the three palaces, still attract visitors to visit the palace.  The research method used the Husserl Phenomenology method. Phenomenology is a way of thinking or "the style of thinking" with objects that are symptomatic in the form of facts or symptoms, circumstances, events, objects or reality. Construction through physical space, socio-cultural and economic attractiveness. The result is a tourist attraction with a unique local value in the form of "blessings". The value of the uniqueness of a tourist attraction is definitely different for other royal tourist objects, but these local values must be determined as an intangible heritage element of tourist attraction. These results can serve as recommendations for the conservation of the palaces in Cirebon

Purpose Heritage tourism has become increasingly popular, and improving the sustainability of such sites is essential both nationally and internationally. The purpose of this paper is to explore the opportunities and challenges of improving the condition and sustainability of a chapel at a busy international heritage tourist attraction. Design/methodology/approach A case study approach was adopted. This utilised interviews with four of the primary building professionals involved with the refurbishment project. Documentary analysis and observations were also used. Findings The present case study presents the opportunities and challenges faced by a tourist heritage attraction. Improvements to the condition and sustainability of such assets are essential to ensure their sustained and enhanced use, and the protection of heritage buildings. Such projects create opportunities to increase knowledge and understanding about these assets as well as enhancing opportunities for meaning making for visitors. The paper highlights the importance of a strong leader and a balanced team working towards common objectives. Further, whilst synergies between conservation and sustainability exist, there are also tensions and compromises. Research limitations/implications This case study highlights the opportunities and challenges of improving the condition and sustainability of built cultural heritage at a tourist attraction. Opportunities included increased knowledge and understanding about the heritage asset; enhancement of values for present and future generations; improved condition, increased usability; and increased sustainability. Challenges were: team turnover; delays resulting from archaeological findings; previous work resulting in building defects; the existing building condition; and unfamiliarity and the uncertainty regarding particular measures. Practical implications The practical implications of this case study include ensuring clear project objectives and a balanced project team are in place. These should be enhanced by a good system of information recording throughout the project to limit the impact of staff absence. Good communication within the team and with external members such as manufacturers will reduce the impact of unfamiliar products and aid in decision making. Future research should explore whether these findings are applicable to other heritage tourist attractions, and whether visitors’ narrative encounters with the asset change following a sustainability improvement project. Originality/value Limited research has been previously performed on improving the sustainability of built cultural heritage at tourist attractions. This research investigates the opportunities and challenges facing building professionals in improving such heritage assets. The improvement of heritage tourist attractions requires careful consideration. Whilst they need to be conserved for future generations, increasing the sustainability of such assets is essential to ensure their continued usability.

A lack of required data resources is one of the challenges of accepting the Augmented Reality (AR) to provide the right services to the users, whereas the amount of spatial information produced by people is increasing daily. This research aims to design a personalized AR that is based on a tourist system that retrieves the big data according to the users’ demographic contexts in order to enrich the AR data source in tourism. This research is conducted in two main steps. First, the type of the tourist attraction where the users interest is predicted according to the user demographic contexts, which include age, gender, and education level, by using a machine learning method. Second, the correct data for the user are extracted from the big data by considering time, distance, popularity, and the neighborhood of the tourist places, by using the VIKOR and SWAR decision making methods. By about 6%, the results show better performance of the decision tree by predicting the type of tourist attraction, when compared to the SVM method. In addition, the results of the user study of the system show the overall satisfaction of the participants in terms of the ease-of-use, which is about 55%, and in terms of the systems usefulness, about 56%.
