The configuration of the life design is a challenge for every human being. The factors that determine the construction of the life design are diverse: lack of maturity, lack of identity, con-flictive personality, problematic social and family environment, school failure, etc. This study attempts to analyse the process of shaping life designs in adolescents at risk of social exclusion. A multi-case study was conducted with six adolescents presenting exclusion trajectories that were within the protection system. In the study, qualitative (semi-structured and diary field inter-views) and quantitative (questionnaire) data retrieval tools and techniques were used, opting for a mixed methodology. The results show that these children have difficulties in projecting a future outside the contexts of social exclusion in which they have developed. Life designs are built from the maladjustment to the system and on a deficient social-emotional basis, making young people unable to generate assertive thoughts and behaviors to achieve the goals set. It is necessary to: a) work with adolescents at risk of exclusion to make them acquire social-emotional strategies, and b) prevent conflicting intra and interpersonal behaviour through care/support actions.

The present research analyses the theoretical and practical aspects of interaction between social entrepreneurship and socio-economic processes, thereby building up scientific experience in analyses of social entrepreneurship processes. The authors, based on a theoretical literature review and an examination of social entrepreneurship in Latvia, analysed the elements of the social entrepreneurship ecosystem, the impacts of social entrepreneurship and statistical data on social inequality in Latvia. The research concluded that social development in Latvia was at the initial stage, yet it provided support to people at risk of social exclusion and poverty. The development of social entrepreneurship in the regions of Latvia was uneven.

Social exclusion is widely recognized as having a lasting negative impact on quality of life and future opportunities. Many young people live in families at risk of poverty. One of the causes of social exclusion is the inability to manage personal finances. Social workers working with these young people may not always be able to help, as they often do not have sufficient knowledge on how to properly consult young people on their personal financial issues. In order to find out the needs of personal financial management, a case study involving social workers and young people from social exclusion groups was carried out with the financial support of Nordplus Horizontal programme. This article analyses data from a Latvian survey that reveals main reasons causing personal financial management problems, as well as ways to overcome them. The study also answers the question of what knowledge and skills, as well as methodological materials, are needed by social workers to support young people at risk and to develop their personal financial management skills.

Expertise in multi-door criminal justice enables new forms of intervention within existing criminal justice systems. Expertise provides criminal justice personnel with the rationale and means to use their authority in order to carry out their existing roles for the purpose of doing (what they see as) good. In the first section, we outline theoretical frameworks derived from Gil Eyal’s sociology of expertise and Thomas Haskell’s evolution of moral sensibility. We use professional stakeholder interview data (N = 45) from our studies of three emerging and existing prostitution diversion programs as a case study to illustrate how criminal justice actors use what we define as primary, secondary, and tertiary expertise in multi-agency working groups. Actors make use of the tools at their disposal—in this case, the concept of trauma—to further personal and professional goals. As our case study demonstrates, professionals in specialized diversion programs recognize the inadequacy of criminal justice systems and believe that women who sell sex do so as a response to past harms and a lack of social, emotional, and material resources to cope with their trauma. Trauma shapes the kinds of interventions and expertise that are marshalled in response. Specialized programs create seepage that may reduce solely punitive responses and pave the way for better services. However empathetic, they do nothing to address the societal forces that are the root causes of harm and resultant trauma. This may have more to do with imagined capacities than with the objectively best approaches.

Abstract Pin leakage continues to be on the list of top yield detractors for microelectronics devices. It is simply manifested as elevated current with one pin or several pins during pin continuity test. Although many techniques are capable to globally localize the fault of pin leakage, root cause analysis and identification for it are still very challenging with today’s advanced failure analysis tools and techniques. It is because pin leakage can be caused by any type of defect, at any layer in the device and at any process step. This paper presents a case study to demonstrate how to combine multiple techniques to accurately identify the root cause of a pin leakage issue for a device manufactured using advanced technology node. The root cause was identified as under-etch issue during P+ implantation hard mask opening for ESD protection diode, causing P+ implantation missing, which was responsible for the nearly ohmic type pin leakage.

Volcanology is an extremely important scientific discipline. Shedding light on how and why volcanoes erupt, how eruptions can be predicted and their impact on humans and the environment is crucial to public safety, economies and businesses. Understanding volcanoes means eruptions can be anticipated and at-risk communities can be forewarned, enabling them to implement mitigation measures. Professor Tsukasa Ohba is a scientist based at the Graduate School of International Resource Studies, Akita University, Japan, and specialises in volcanology and petrology. Ohba and his team are focusing on volcanic phenomena including: phreatic eruptions (a steam-driven eruption driven by the heat from magma interacting with water); lahar (volcanic mudflow); and monogenetic basalt eruptions (which consist of a group of small monogenetic volcanoes, each of which erupts only once). The researchers are working to understand the mechanisms of these phenomena using Petrology. Petrology is one of the traditional methods in volcanology but has not been applied to disastrous eruptions before. The teams research will contribute to volcanic hazard mitigation.
