Austrovelia, gen. nov. (type-species A. queenslandica, sp. nov., from North Queensland), A. caledonica, sp. nov. (from New Caledonia), and Phrynovelia caledonica, sp. nov., and P. bimaculata, sp. nov. (both from New Caledonia) are described and compared with related known genera and species. Altitudinal distribution of A, queenslandica and biogeographic affinities between New Caledonia and the Mount Sorrow tableland in North Queensland are discussed, and a generalized distribution of terrestrial Mesoveliidae in the south-west Pacific is given.

A new family, Vultocinidae, is established for an unusual new genus and new species of crab (Crustacea: Brachyura: Goneplacoidea) here described from relatively deep waters in the central Philippines and Vanuatu. Although Vultocinus anfractus, new genus, new species, superficially resembles pilumnid genera like Lophoplax and pseudoziid genera like Planopilumnus in its deeply sculptured carapace and leg surfaces, its male abdomen and gonopods appear to affiiliate it with the Goneplacidae sensu lato instead. However, its suite of many unusual characters requires the recognition of a new family for Vultocinus. Comparisons of the Vultocinidae with the Goneplacidae sensu stricto suggests that the subfamily Mathildellinae, presently regarded as a subfamily, should be recognised as a full family; and two other problematic constituent genera, Progeryon and Conleyus, are also referred to their respective families in the Goneplacoidea. The genus Paragalene is also referred to the Progeryonidae. The extent of the sterno-abdominal cavity along the thoracic sternites, structure of the posterior thoracic sternites, position of the press button of the male abdominal locking mechanism and form of the first four male abdominal segment as characters in the taxonomy of the Goneplacoidea is also discussed.

The Indo-West Pacific sesarmid genus Selatium Serène & Soh, 1970, is revised, and two wide-ranging species are recognized, S. brockii (De Man, 1887) and S. elongatum (A. Milne-Edwards, 1869). A new genus, Lithoselatium, which superficially resembles Selatium, is described, and two new species are recognized: L. pulchrum n. sp. from Taiwan, and L. kusu n. sp. from Singapore and nearby areas. Their relationship is discussed using both morphological and molecular datasets.

Only one species of hippolytid shrimp, namely Hippolyte commensalis Kemp, 1925, was previously known to be associated with alcyonacean soft corals (Octocorallia, Alcyonacea) in the Indo-West Pacific. Recent collections revealed that at least three distinct hippolytid species are associated with alcyonacean soft corals. Moreover, these alcyonacean-associated hippolytids differ considerably from all other species of the genus Hippolyte Leach, 1814 in having a smooth rostrum bearing a single subapical ventral tooth, reduced styliform incisor process of the mandible, the basal antennular segment without ventromedial tooth, and the ambulatory pereiopods lacking or with only relatively small distoventral spines. A new genus, Alcyonohippolyte gen. nov., is thus established for Hippolyte commensalis Kemp, 1925 and two new species. Alcyonohippolyte dossena sp. nov. (the type species of the new genus) mainly differs from the congeners in having a humpbacked carapace. Alcyonohippolyte maculata sp. nov. closely resembles A. commensalis but clearly differs in having a furry carapace and distinct coloration, as well as in association with different alcyonacean host. An identification key is provided as well as information on the live coloration and host for all species of Alcyonohippolyte gen. nov.

A new erebid, Tabwecala robinsonigen. nov., sp. nov., from the Vanuatu Islands (Espiritu Santo) (West Pacific Ocean) is described. The new species, superficially resembling species of the genera Artena, Achaea or Leistera, shows a peculiar combination of characters which suggested its placement in a new genus. This is provisionally placed in tribe Poaphilini but following a review of the features purporting to show the separation of Ophiusini and Poaphilini, it is shown that morphological rationale supporting the current arrangement of these tribes is still lacking. Noteworthy modifications affect the hindleg of male Tabwecala robinsoni, with greatly shortened and swollen metatibia bearing a dorsal hair-pencil.

A detailed description and figures of a new species Entokrohnia entiptera sp. nov. are presented. Diagnoses of the families Protoeukrohniidae fam. nov. and Tokiokaispadellidae Salvini-Plaven, 1986, and all the three genera of the latter family: Tokiokaispadella Kassatkina, 1980, Aberrospadella Kassatkina 1971, and Entokrohnia gen. nov. are given.
