A new species of Triacanthoneus Anker, 2010 is described from an anchialine cave near Akumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico.Triacanthoneus akumalensis sp. nov., is the fourth species in the genus and can be distinguished from the previously de-scribed species by the position of the sharp lateral teeth on the carapace, the length and shape of the rostrum, the eyes beingcompletely concealed by the carapace, the dentition of the major chela fingers, and the shape of the telson. The presenceof a pleural process in the new species represents a new character for the genus. The description of T. akumalensis sp. nov. increases the number of caridean genera having representatives in the anchialine systems of the Yucatan Peninsula to 11.

A new species of deep water alpheid shrimp, Alpheus luiszapatai sp. nov., from Arusí, Chocó, Pacific coast of Colombia is described. The single female known was collected between the discarded bycatch of deep water shrimp trawls dedicated to the commercial fisheries of the “coliflor” shrimp Solenocera spp. This new species is placed putatively in the Alpheus brevirostris (Olivier, 1811) species group, and share some external morphological characters with Alpheus hephaestus Bracken-Grissom & Felder, 2014. It can be differentiated by the shape and ornamentation of major and minor chelipeds, the propodi and dactyli of third to fifth pereopods, the diaresis of uropodal exopod, the length of the rostral carina, color in life and bathymetric distribution. Additional comparison with another congeners pertaining to this species group complex from the eastern Pacific, western Atlantic and other oceanographic regions is discussed. A key for Alpheus brevirostris species group from the eastern Pacific is presented.

The Indo-West Pacific alpheid shrimp genus Athanopsis Coutière, 1897 is briefly reviewed. Athanopsis platyrhynchusCoutière, 1897, the type species, is reassessed using Coutière’s illustrations and morphological notes scattered throughouthis monograph of the family Alpheidae (Coutière 1899). Athanopsis brevirostris Banner & Banner, 1981, originally de-scribed on the basis of a single immature specimen missing both chelipeds, is reported and illustrated based on fresh ma-terial from Madagascar and southern Japan. Athanopsis gotoi sp. nov. is described based on two fresh specimens fromsouthern Japan, both found associated with thalassematid echiurans, and an additional, older museum specimen from In-donesia. The colour patterns of A. brevirostris, A. gotoi sp. nov., A. saurus Anker, 2011, A. rubricinctuta Berggren, 1991,and A. australis Banner & Banner, 1982, are contrasted to facilitate their identification in the field. A morphology and colour based key to all presently known species of Athanopsis is also provided.

A taxonomic survey of Marphysa species (Polychaeta: Eunicida: Eunicidae) from coastal regions of northern Australia including recently collected specimens from a fish farm near Darwin, yielded three species: M. mullawa Hutchings & Karageorgopolous, 2003, a first record from northern Australia; M. mossambica (Peters, 1854; was Nauphanta mossambica), first confirmed record from Australia; and a new species, M. fauchaldi. The new species was recorded from intertidal muddy shores as well as in the sediments of fish farm ponds, where it was extremely abundant. It is characterised by a unique combination of chaetal features. A newly proposed informal subgroup of Marphysa, the Teretiuscula-group, is erected to contain the new species and other Marphysa species that share the possession of compound spinigerous chaetae in anterior parapodia only and the peculiar behaviour of encapsulating embryos in jelly cocoons. Morphologically, the new species falls between a group of Marphysa species having only compound spinigers and the recently resurrected genus Nauphanta, which completely lacks compound chaetae. The discovery of this new species necessitated a re-evaluation of the morphological features of Nauphanta and Marphysa species lacking falcigers, in particular homology of fan chaetae, the only apparent synapomorphy of Nauphanta. Fan chaetae appear to be a specialised type of pectinate chaetae, which are found also in species of Marphysa including the new species. Based on this finding, and an evaluation of other characters, Nauphanta is returned to synonymy with Marphysa. Further, an analysis of size-related variation of key morphological characters in M. mossambica and comparison with those in the types of M. novaehollandiae (Kinberg, 1865; formerly Nauphanta) and M. simplex Treadwell, 1922, indicated that both species should be synonymised with M. mossambica. A key is provided to identify Marphysa species of the Indo-west Pacific.

AbstractHelopeltis pernicialis, a new species of bryocorine Miridae, is described from northern Australia, where it has become established as a serious pest of cultivated cashews, Anacardium occidentale (Anacardiaceae). Information on the biology and pest status of the bug is provided from studies conducted near Darwin, Northern Territory.
