A method is described to conduct an integrated Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) simulation of sails that is based upon knowledge of the sail’s design shape geometry and membrane material properties. A Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of the sail structure and a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model of the aerodynamic field are combined and iteratively solved to compute the actual flying shape of the sail under aerodynamic load, the stress strain behavior of the sail membrane, the integrated aerodynamic forces produced by the sail such as driving force and heel moment, and the resulting loads on sheets, halyards, etc. An important contribution of this particular method is the incorporation of wrinkling phenomena into the FEA portion of the calculation. Results from a study of working sails for a 30’ MORC racing yacht designed by Nelson-Marek (NM) in the 1990’s are presented and discussed with particular emphasis on the variability of primary load paths with changing trim and sailing conditions as well as the impact of sail deformation in the direction of relatively small stresses that is often poorly addressed in many proprietary sail construction methods.

A pure water jet at subsonic speed provides an opportunity for application in cutting soft material with the advantage of not contaminating the workpiece. Inside the nozzle, water is flowing through various cross sections, which lead to pressure drop and loss of energy. This requires a nozzle with a design that causes minimum pressure drop. In this work, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) were used to analyse the flow through five different nozzles. For each nozzle, the pressures of 10 MPa, 20 MPa and 30 MPa were applies at the inlet. For the inlet pressure of 10 MPa, the highest outlet velocity us 136.12 m/s at the pressure of 9.261 MPa. The impact pressure at stand distance of 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm were 8.26 MPa and 8.02 MPa, respectively. For this nozzle, the Factor of Safety for 10 MPa, 20 MPa and 30 MPa were 6.4, 3.2 and 2.961, respectively. The findings are relevant to the development of pure water jet cutting machine

The method of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is used to three-dimensional numerical simulation for the fluid flow process of ammonium persulfate crystallizer. By using standard model, this paper respectively simulated the flow field within the crystallizer in the impeller installation height of 1.2 m while stirring speed is of 60 r/min, 100 r/min and 200 r/min; and simulated the impact of the flow field inside the crystallizer when the stirring speed of 100 r/min and impeller installation height respectively is of 0.7 m, 1.2 m and 1.7 m. That calculation results show that: the velocity gradient is mainly concentrated in the area of internal draft tube and paddle around. With the increase of impeller speed, the flow velocity of the fluid within the crystallizer corresponding increases; and the energy also gradually decreases from mixing impeller to the settlement zone with the loss of the installation height, and the kinetic energy in the bottom of the crystallizer is reduced. Considering the energy and crystallization effect, selection of mixing speed of 100 r/min or so and installation height of about 1.2 m is more appropriate.

Abstract This paper analyzes the change of brake torque during normal stop and emergency braking of elevator. Taking the permanent magnet synchronous elevator traction machine as an example, the mechanical characteristics of the brake wheel and brake shoe on the brake under emergency braking are analyzed. According to the finite element analysis and calculation results, the impact and stress of the elevator are the largest at the moment of emergency braking, reaching 270.3MPa, and the strain increases gradually. The analysis results can provide reference for the design and verification of brake wheel and brake shoe of elevator traction machine.

The paper takes a realistic coke drum as an example. A finite element analysis model using ANSYS is made, acquired with indirect coupling method, and circumferential thermal stress field of coke drum is calculated. Especially, the boundary conditions are based on the measured data of the realistic coke drum. Then circumferential thermal stress field of coke drum is calculated. The calculation results indicate that the circumferential temperature difference with the same height has little impact to stress of the drum and the circumferential temperature difference has the most important effect on coke drum skirt, so the impact to circumferential cracking of the skirt weld cannot be neglected.

This paper uses the professional finite element analysis software ANSYS to process a certain type of power regulating inverter. The overall finite element model of the inverter is established then the three-way impact condition is analysed according to the requirements of GJB 1060.1-91. Through the modal analysis in ANSYS software, the natural frequency and natural vibration mode of the inverter are calculated. Based on modal analysis of the inverter, the DDAM shock spectrum analysis function is used to analyse the impact condition of the inverter. Through the calculation of the impact condition, the deformation and stress state of the inverter structure under various working conditions are obtained. By analysing the calculation results, the weak position of the inverter structure is found and the corresponding optimization scheme is proposed to improve the dynamic performance and improve the electron. The overall dynamic performance of the inverter cabinet also provides an important reference for the design of subsequent electronic cabinets.

Abstract The docking structure has broad application prospects in the construction of tower assembly. However, the docking structure has a relatively large quality, which has a greater impact on the operations of high-altitude workers. This paper studies the impact force on docking structure during the docking process. The finite element analysis (FEA) model of the docking structure and the tower section is established and the impact force of the docking structure under various wording conditions is calculated. Based on the calculation results of the impact force the lightweight research of the docking structure is carried out and the optimization constraint conditions are proposed. The simulation model is established by ANSYS and the optimization design of guiding tools and vertical limit tools are completed by adjusting the structural parameters. After the optimization design, the docking structure is trial-produced and tested. Through the method of FEA and experiment, a butting device that meets the requirements of strength and rigidity and is lighter in weight is obtained. Compared with the existing docking structure, the weight of the optimized docking structure is reduced by about 39%. The research results can provide a reference for the design of the docking structure.

Abstract. Coralline algae are important habitat formers found on all rocky shores. While the impact of future ocean acidification on the physiological performance of the species has been well studied, little research has focused on potential changes in structural integrity in response to climate change. A previous study using 2-D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) suggested increased vulnerability to fracture (by wave action or boring) in algae grown under high CO2 conditions. To assess how realistically 2-D simplified models represent structural performance, a series of increasingly biologically accurate 3-D FE models that represent different aspects of coralline algal growth were developed. Simplified geometric 3-D models of the genus Lithothamnion were compared to models created from computed tomography (CT) scan data of the same genus. The biologically accurate model and the simplified geometric model representing individual cells had similar average stresses and stress distributions, emphasising the importance of the cell walls in dissipating the stress throughout the structure. In contrast models without the accurate representation of the cell geometry resulted in larger stress and strain results. Our more complex 3-D model reiterated the potential of climate change to diminish the structural integrity of the organism. This suggests that under future environmental conditions the weakening of the coralline algal skeleton along with increased external pressures (wave and bioerosion) may negatively influence the ability for coralline algae to maintain a habitat able to sustain high levels of biodiversity.

Rotating scanning motor is the important component of synchronous scanning laser fuze. High emission overload environment in the conventional ammunition has a serious impact on the reliability of the motor. Based on the theory that the buffer pad can attenuate the impact stress wave, a new motor buffering Isolation Method is proposed. The dynamical model of the new buffering isolation structure is established by ANSYS infinite element analysis software to do the nonlinear impact dynamics simulation of rotating scanning motor. The effectiveness of Buffering Isolation using different materials is comparatively analyzed. Finally, the Macht hammer impact experiment is done, the results show that in the experience of the 70,000[Formula: see text]g impact acceleration, the new buffering Isolation method can reduce the impact load about 15 times, which can effectively alleviate the plastic deformation of rotational scanning motor and improve the reliability of synchronization scanning system. A new method and theoretical basis of anti-high overload research for Laser Fuze is presented.
