Violent radicalization is a complex phenomenon that must be explained through a multidisciplinary approach. The aim of this article is to explain how 22 women in Spain became radicalised. To achieve this, the study analyses the socio-political factors that lead an individual to get involved with the Islamic militancy through three levels: macro, micro and meso. The research is supported by interviews with females in Spain who were convicted of terrorist offences and experts in the field; by judgement and indictments ordered by the Audiencia Nacional.

At the height of its development and up to the eighteenth century, the Spanish classical theatre significantly contributed to the formation of the modern European theatre. Theatre texts and theatrical companies were in fact circulating outside the Iberian peninsula and the Spanish experience of theatre triggered literary debates and reflections that played a central role to the cultural history of Europe, from Neoclassicism to the beginnings of Romanticism. It is a complex phenomenon crossing linguistically and culturally diversified territories, and which therefore needs an inter- and multidisciplinary approach. We tried to respond to this need by involving scholars and researchers in the fields of Hispanic, French, Italian, history of entertainment and musicology for the drafting of this volume.

This article offers a brief analysis of the main prerequisites of the emergence of nonlinear architecture. It is shown why conceptions, which only few decades ago seemed fantastic, are being realized in the projects of modern architects today. The influence of different cultural, scientific, social and economic factors is considered. It is proved that a certain artistic idea always underlies nonlinear forms which seem random and its design is realized basing on precise mathematical calculation. It is confirmed that the phenomenon of nonlinear architecture must be considered preeminently as a complex phenomenon. It is shown that ideas from the different and often unrelated areas of knowledge are melted in a «melting-pot» of nonlinear architecture. It is proved that analysis of prerequisites of development and multidisciplinary approach to the research of nonlinear architecture will allow us to predict a vector of possible development of this style

Background:Pain is a complex phenomenon that implies pathophysiological processes and psychosocial components. A 56-year-old female patient complaining of pain and presenting with multiple mild physical signs was examined by a multidisciplinary team from the Ear-Nose-Throat, Dermatology, Hematology, General Clinics, and Psychiatry and Psychology Departments. Objective:To present a significant case where pain is primarily caused by psychological conflicts.Method:A multidisciplinary approach, with medical and psychological interventions. Results:The patient was deeply convinced; she had been contaminated by leprosy. Her enrooted personal beliefs, including religion and moral conflicts, seem to be the primary cause for her putative ‘disease’, a condition that was not confirmed by exhaustive exams. Conclusion:Pain normally is related to several factors, including biological, psychological and cultural. Some complex cases should be investigated by a multidisciplinary team of specialists, in order to identify extra-physiological components.

The essay provides a critical assessment of the debates concerning the concepts of fake and original (authentic) in the context of semiotics (Ch.S. Peirce, T. de Lauretis, U. Eco, M. Bal), philosophy (N. Goodman, J. Baudrillard, S. Žižek), art theory (W Benjamin, I. Haywood, N. Bryson), history (C. Ginzburg). It is an attempt to represent the problem of reproduction of cultural artefacts as a multifaceted issue which embraces the whole series of related notions (fake, forgery, imitation, reproduction, replication, remake, copy, pastiche, etc.) along with their different meanings and implications for various cultural practices (fine arts, history, architecture, cinema, social and cultural ‘apparatuses’ of identification). The main aim of the text is to provide an interdisciplinary frame of interpretation of the phenomenon of forgery, to reveal how aesthetic judgments on the originality (and aura) of the work of art are determined by economical and political factors and to show how the 'ideology of original' is related to the power-knowledge system and the issues of political economy in contemporary Western culture. Semiotics (particularly, in U. Eco’s version) is chosen here as the most promising and efficient tool for the analysis of this complex phenomenon.

The protozoan parasite Entamoeba histolytica is the causative agent of amebiasis in man. The trophozoite or motile form is a highly dynamic and pleomorphic cell with a great capacity to destroy tissues. Moreover, the parasite has the singular ability to phagocytize a variety of different live or death cells. Phagocytosis of red blood cells by E. histolytica trophozoites is a complex phenomenon related with amebic pathogenicity and nutrition.

Individuals with Rett syndrome (RS) present with a complex profile. They benefit from a multidisciplinary approach for diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. In our clinic, the Communication Matrix © (Rowland, 1990/1996/2004) is used to collect data about the communication skills and modalities used by those with RS across the lifespan. Preliminary analysis of this data supports the expected changes in communication behaviors as the individual with RS ages and motor deficits have a greater impact.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a serious epidemic in the United States. It affects patients of all ages, race, and socioeconomic status (SES). The current care of these patients typically manifests after sequelae have been identified after discharge from the hospital, long after the inciting event. The purpose of this article is to introduce the concept of identification and management of the TBI patient from the moment of injury through long-term care as a multidisciplinary approach. By promoting an awareness of the issues that develop around the acutely injured brain and linking them to long-term outcomes, the trauma team can initiate care early to alter the effect on the patient, family, and community. Hopefully, by describing the care afforded at a trauma center and by a multidisciplinary team, we can bring a better understanding to the armamentarium of methods utilized to treat the difficult population of TBI patients.

Abstract The techniques of performing a tracheostomy has transformed over time. Percutaneous tracheostomy is gaining popularity over open tracheostomy given its advantages and as a result the number of bedside tracheostomies has increased necessitating the need for a Percutaneous Tracheostomy Program. The Percutaneous Tracheostomy Program at the Johns Hopkins Hospital is a comprehensive service that provides care to patients before, during, and after a tracheostomy with a multidisciplinary approach aimed at decreasing complications. Education is provided to patients, families, and health-care professionals who are involved in the management of a tracheostomy. Ongoing prospective data collection serves as a tool for Quality Assurance.
