The process of internationalization of business for individual companies is almost inevitable. It is not simple and is often made even more complex by numerous challenges. The aim of this paper is to investigate the strategies of owners and top-level managers in domestic companies from different business sectors developed with the aim to build penetration into foreign markets by building business alliances, especially since the national market often becomes too small for their expansion. The decision to use or not to use strategic alliances is usually conditioned by the characteristics of national companies. In the case of companies of different levels and periods of business operation, such alliances have a number of advantages and disadvantages. The numerous disadvantages are mainly due to the special characteristics that each of them possesses. The results of this study highlight the factors that encourage national companies to establish a strategic alliance in the processes of internationalization, as well as the elements that hinder the choice of such strategies. In this research, the methods of comparative statistics (ch2 Test, ANOVA), hypothetical - deductive methods, analytical - deductive and comparative methods, historical and statistical - descriptive methods were used.

Background. International strategic alliances are becoming one of the most appropriate forms of partnership between domestic IT firms and leading foreign IT companies. However, gaining membership in such an alliance without prior planning can result not only in benefits but also significant losses, which are often ignored and not calculated in advance by domestic representatives of the IT-industry. An analysis of recent research and publications has shown that, despite the existence of some scientific developments, the issues related to determining the advantages and disadvantages of international strategic alliances in the field of information technologies remain unresolved. The aim of the article is to identify the advantages and disadvantages of creating international strategic alliances in the field of information technologies. Materials and methods. Methods of theoretical generalization, analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction are applied. Results. The advantages and disadvantages of international strategic alliances in the IT sphere are identified and characterized. The key advantages of creating international strategic alliances in the IT sphere include: maintaining a greater share of autonomy; achieving new goals; expanding the customer base; improving the quality of services, goods; financial infusions; avoidance of tariff and non-tariff restrictions; expanding the database of contacts. The key shortcomings of the creating international strategic alliances in the IT sphere include: loss of autonomy of management and control; «brain»drain; copyright disputes; uneven costs; differences in terminology; cultural and language barriers; unforeseen conflicts. Conclusion. The need for careful substantiation of decisions on the entry of domestic IT companies into the international strategic alliance has been established. It is argued that the advantages and disadvantages of international strategic alliances in the IT field in most cases depend on the position taken by partners in the creation of ISAs.

Global tendencies in recent decades have strengthened competition in world markets, so it is necessary to create such an organizational form that could respond as quickly and efficiently as possible to changes in the external environment. One of these new forms of organization of enterprises is strategic alliances, the development of which has significantly influenced changes in the structure of many industries. Through the creation of strategic alliances, companies join forces and resources to maintain their competitive positions and create new opportunities. In the article, the strategic alliance is seen as an effective form of the companies joining that best meets the criteria for strategic goals. The authors examine types of strategic alliances, the development of which should provide enterprises with access to certain innovations; the goals of creating strategic alliances are specified. It is proved that a case of strategic alliance means conducting joint research, sharing production facilities, exchanging technologies, marketing each other’s products or joining efforts to produce components or final products. It is noted that partnership in strategic alliances is based on flexible organizational forms of cooperation. The authors allocate the problems that interfere with innovation; actions to resolve them are suggested. Prospects for further research in this direction are the analysis of existing strategic alliances in Ukraine, carrying out a study on their status, number and sphere of formation. Also in the future it is planned to distinguish the problems of determining the advantages and disadvantages of creating strategic alliances in Ukraine, and most importantly – to analyze the readiness of the legislative base for their successful development in the country.

Ukraine is a unitary state, yet historically various regions, oblasts, districts, and local areas have different levels of economic development. To secure sustainable economic and social development and provide social services guaranteed by the state for each citizen according to the Constitution, the mechanism of redistribution between revenues and expenditures of oblasts, regions, and territories through the budgets of a higher level is used. The paper aims to research the peculiarities of improving interbudgetary relations in conditions of authorities’ decentralization. The paper defines the nature of interbudgetary relations. The basic and reverse subsidies to Ukraine and Lvivska oblast are analyzed. The advantages and disadvantages the communities face at changing approaches to balancing local budgets are determined. Regulative documents that cover the interbudgetary relations in Ukraine are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the problem of local finances reforming, including the development of interbudgetary relations. The scheme of the economic interbudgetary relations system in Ukraine is developed. The ways to improve the system of interbudgetary relations in Ukraine are suggested. The negative and positive aspects, advantages, and disadvantages of the system of interbudgetary relations in Ukraine require the following improvements. 1. It is necessary to avoid the complete budget alignment in the process of budgets balancing by interbudgetary transfers as the major objective. 2. The interbudgetary transfers should be distributed based on a formal approach. 3. The changes have to be introduced to the calculation of medical and educational subsidies in terms of financial standard of budget provision to avoid the money deficit for coverage of necessary expenditures. 4. There is a need to improve interbudgetary relations at the levels of districts, villages, towns, and cities of district subordination. 5. Improvement of the mechanism of targeted benefits provision, their real evaluation, and control for the use of funds.

Scholars could not come to unanimity on definition of entrepreneurship but agreement exist that an entrepreneur should be a natural leader having thorough understanding of the business and visualize the changes and take calculated risk. Skills and abilities required for entrepreneurship are so great and numerous that it is difficult to find persons having entrepreneurship trailts. Most of the entrepreneurs either fail at early stages or unable to expand the business beyond a small shop. A successful entrepreneur in addition to being a visionary and possessing qualities like innovativeness, resilience, perseverance etc. should have the honest belief in self and unflinching faith in ‘Karma’ like ‘Rama of Ramayana’ so that he can face the challenges and pursue the goal with limited resources. Religious philosophy helps the people in developing traits useful in life. Holy books like the Ramayana not just deals with spirituality but management principles hidden in it help an individual to develop entrepreneurship skills and role effectiveness. Primarily, Ramayana is a story and pursuit of the Ramayana does not automatically get translated into entrepreneurship qualities as background was quite different than today’s business scenario. However, Rama, a role-model of Gyan-yog and Karm-yog, can be compared with an entrepreneur who started from scraps like entrepreneur but by linking of his goals with social values and following highest standard of ethics, he could make strategic alliances with Sugriva and Vibheeshana and created Ram and Company and inducted less skilled, less equipped but well dedicated Vanar in army and fought against Ravana (the greatest demon) having well equipped army, to make the earth free from devils and liberate Sita and save the dignity of women (social cause). Principles hidden in the Ramayana show holistic vision and, if followed, by an entrepreneur will help him to establish a successful business model. This article is a modest attempt of exploring attributes of Ram and principles/ methodology adopted by him in his fight against Ravana understood through interpretation of stanzas/ verses mentioned in Ramcharit Manas and correlate them with formation of strategy, goal orientation, strategic alliance, change management etc. ideally required by entrepreneurs to establish and grow his business in modern day competitive scenario.

With resource crisis and environmental crisis increasingly grim, many countries turn the focus to pollution-free and renewable wind energy resources, which are mainly used for offshore wind power generation, seawater desalination and heating, etc., on the premise that the characteristics of resources are fully grasped. In this study, the evaluation of offshore wind energy in offshore waters in China, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of existing studies were overviewed from four aspects: the spatial-temporal characteristics of wind energy, wind energy classification, the short-term forecast of wind energy and the long-term projection of wind energy, according to the research content and the future considerations about wind energy evaluation (evaluation of wind energy on islands and reefs, the impact of wind energy development on human health) were envisaged, in the hope of providing a scientific basis for the site selection and business operation ‘or military applications’ here (after business operation), etc. of wind energy development, ‘aritime navigation against environmental construction,’ here and also contributing to the sustainable development and health of human beings.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to propose a method to measure intellectual capital (IC) in firms involved in strategic alliances, an area that has received scant attention in the literature, as existing research is focused mainly on organizational level mainly and increasingly on macro-level unit such as regions or nations. There are very few works at the meso-level (i.e. alliances, clusters), and the paper aims to fill this void, by providing researchers and practitioners with a tool capable of combining measurement and management aims, developed at organizational level with the active participation of the researchers. Design/methodology/approach – The method of analysis is based on a model formalized through a fuzzy expert system (FES). The FES are able to merge the capabilities of an expert system to simulate the decision-making process with the vagueness typical of human reasoning, maintaining the ability to still have a numeric value as a response. Its construction requires the participation of experts, whose knowledge of the problem is accumulated in the form of blocks of rules. These features make it possible to formalize the decision-making process related to the IC valuation, handling qualitative and quantitative variables, and exploring the cognitive mechanisms underlying this process. Findings – The outcome of the application is a system designed to measure the intangible performance deriving from participation in a strategic alliance using FES. This study contributes to the broadening of the research community’s understanding regarding the alternative measurement of IC created within strategic alliances. Research limitations/implications – To the best of the authors’ knowledge, IC literature lacks methods expressly designed to measure the incremental value of IC originating from collaboration among firms. From a measurement perspective, the results may be regarded as valuable proof that IC performance within strategic alliances can be measured quantitatively. Practical implications – On the management side, the possibility of retracing the determinants of different IC intermediate indicators composing the final IC index allows strategic alliances managers to use this information for decision-making purposes. Originality/value – To the best of the authors’ knowledge this is the first study applying FES to measure IC in a firm belonging to a strategic alliance. In the authors’ opinion, fuzzy logic methodology, recently applied in empirical work designed to evaluate IC, represents a reliable methodology because of the “fuzzy” nature of IC.

Abstract   This paper discussed the company's motive to join a strategic alliance from the institutional theory point of view. The theory views that strategic alliances are considered as the medium to acquire legitimation from the environment. Such legitimation then improves the company’s competitive positions and performance. Further, we propose the framework to discuss the relationship between strategic alliances and a company’s performance. The paper proceeds as follows: in the next section, we discuss the institutional theory, the strategic alliance, and firm performance. Afterward, we develop the propositions and discuss the implications for future empirical research.
