Although water use has been increasing day by day depending on fast population increase, urbanization and industrialization in the world, potential of usable water resources remains stable. On the other side, expansion of agricultural activities, industrialization, urbanization, global warming and climate change create a big pressure on current water resources. Therefore, management of water resources is one of the most significant problems of today that is required to be solved and ‘’Integrated Basin Management’’ has gained importance in the world in terms of decreasing environmental problems by more efficiently using current water resources. In order to achieve integrated basin management, it is needed to determine basin boundaries with sufficient accuracy and precision and encode them systematically. In various analyses to be done on the basis of basin, topographic parameters are also needed such as shape factor, bifurcation ratio, drainage frequency, drainage density, length of the main flow path, harmonic slope, average slope, time of concentration, hypsometric curve and maximum elevation difference. Nowadays, basin boundaries are obtained with digital elevation models in geographical information systems. However, tools developed for topographic parameters are not available. In this study, programs were written in Python programming language for afore-mentioned topographic parameters and each turned into a geographical information system tool. Therefore, a significant contribution has been made to the subject by completing the deficiency in the geographical information system devoted to the topographic parameters that are needed in almost every analyses concerning to the hydrology.

Field soil investigation prior to the foundation design of any structure is a must for the design engineer. Since the cost of such operation is rather high, then it is sometimes impractical. The design and the preliminary cost estimation of the construction are then impossible to be prepared. This paper applies Geographical Information System – GIS via Google earth to all over Bangkok area thus enables engineer to retrieve the physical characteristics of soil layers from the existing soil data. In addition, utilizing the feature of Google earth can be illustrated more visibility in the required position of boring log and position of retrieved soil boring log data. Moreover, it can be applied to everywhere around the world.

Mining induced the ground subsidence and consequently, damages on objects above excavation works is a serious problem all over the world. In this paper, a new approach for subsidence and deformation prediction based on the stochastic Pataric-Stojanovic method is presented. Since the calculation using the equations of this method is very complex, the original computer program package with the title MITSOUKO has been purposely designed. The MITSOUKO program enables calculating at any point of the land surface and representing the results owing to the possibility of their integration and further processing in the Geographical Information System (GIS). The components of the GIS are used to realize the spatial analysis.

Panglima Awang or Henry The Black or Enrique of Melaka , a man of Malay descent, was on board Ferdinand Magellan’s ship when he made his voyage around the world. Panglima Awang was a captive and a slave on board. He was taken to Goa, India and then onward to Portugal. In Portugal, a conflict broke out between the Portugese and Captain Fernado (or Ferdinand Magellan) who, at the instigation of Da Gama, was maliciously accused of siding with some foreigners. Tired of the unwelcome pressure, Captain Fernado made the decision to change his mission and instead sail around the world with Panglima Awang. From Portugal they set sail for Spain. Also on board was Pigafetta who recorded every little detail of the voyage. Besides depicting the events that took place during the voyage of Panglima Awang, this article attempts to integrate geographical information technology into research in the fields of literature and history. This is achieved by identifying the route taken by Panglima Awang as well as his stopover locations, and analysing the spatial pattern and distribution of the voyage. All countries around the world are blessed with particularly rich cultural heritage. Nowadays, many researchers are exploring different methods for documentation, management, and sustainability of cultural heritage. The aim of this article is to review the state-of-the-art documentation, management, and sustainability techniques in the field of cultural heritage based on the case study in the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów. Various 2D/3D image and range-based methods are discussed demonstrating their applications and drawbacks. The geographical information system (GIS) is presented as a method for management, storage, and maintenance of cultural heritage documentation.
