Modern global earthquake fatalities can be separated into two components: (1) fatalities from an approximately constant annual background rate that is independent of world population growth and (2) fatalities caused by earthquakes with large human death tolls, the frequency of which is dependent on world population. Earthquakes with death tolls greater than 100,000 (and 50,000) have increased with world population and obey a nonstationary Poisson distribution with rate proportional to population. We predict that the number of earthquakes with death tolls greater than 100,000 (50,000) will increase in the 21st century to 8.7±3.3 (20.5±4.3) from 4 (7) observed in the 20th century if world population reaches 10.1 billion in 2100. Combining fatalities caused by the background rate with fatalities caused by catastrophic earthquakes ( >100,000 fatalities) indicates global fatalities in the 21st century will be 2.57±0.64 million if the average post-1900 death toll for catastrophic earthquakes (193,000) is assumed.

The COVID-19 pandemic provides us with a rare opportunity to deeply examine the validity of the construction of modern medicine, which is armed by science, and focus more on technologies than on people’s values and more on new ideas than on conventional wisdom. The world’s responses to the COVID-19 emergency have revealed a badly weakened public health system – one of the three pillars of medicine, the other two being basic medicine and clinical medicine. A 100 years ago, public health was the only effective measure for combating infectious diseases, which were then the main cause of human death. It is still a decisive weapon against COVID-19 and other communicable diseases alike, but was barely recognized and trusted at the beginning of the pandemic by the general public and even some international strategists. However, the epidemic has been effectively contained in China by non-pharmacological public health measures, which saved valuable time for the development of vaccines in the country and probably hundreds of thousands of lives as well. Public health aims to improve the health of the entire population by using societal methods. It is not simply a medical issue, and building a strong public health system requires broad participation from various sections of society.

The human pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis ( MTB) is indeed one of the renowned important longtime infectious diseases that cause tuberculosis (TB). Interestingly, MTB infection has become one of the world's leading causes of human death. In trehalose synthase, the protein NCGM 946K2 146 found in MTB has an important role. For carbohydrate transport and metabolism, trehalose synthase is required. The protein is not clarified yet, however. In this research, an in silico approach was therefore formulated for functional and structural documentation of the uncharacterized protein NCGM946K2 146. Three different servers, including the Modeller, the Phyre2, and the Swiss Model, were used to evaluate the predicted tertiary structure. The top materials are selected using structural evaluations conducted with the analysis of Ramachandran Plot, Swiss-Model Interactive Workplace, Prosa-web, Verify 3D, and Z scores. This analysis aimed to uncover the value of the NCGM946K2 146 protein of MTB. This research will, therefore, improve our pathogenesis awareness and give us a chance to target the protein compound.

Death is an infallible part of the human life, and what makes humandifferent from all other beings is fact that he knows that he isgoing to die. Knowing this, human beings are spending their wholelife knowing that the day of their end is going to come. It is clear thatdeath has its biological part, also as a huge event in the existenceof all life forms, including human, death has its philosophical pointof view, and finally, unlike some may disagree, death itself is a hugesocial phenomena as well, and as such, the social influence of deathdeserves close attention and its own part in the social science studies. This paper analyzes the presence of the death in human culture, includinginstitutions, rituals and beliefs following the discourse of lateZygmunt Bauman who left huge influence on this field of study. Sincethe earliest forms of communities, humans are trying to overcomethe death, the state of “after-life” and some form of immortality ofthe being is something that is common to all religions and beliefs everknown to mankind, which stands as a evidence that the final void ofnon-existence know to us as death is something that always presentedhorror in the mind of the humans.

The second part of the article is devoted to analyzing the fundamental ethical and ideological problems of medical ethics, which are reflected in a physician’s attitude to the issues of life and death, thereby actualizing the problems of transplantology. The main provision of key international documents concerning the application of scientific and technological achievements in the field of biology and medicine are: the protection of the dignity and individual integrity of the person, guaranteed to all, without exception; the respect for the integrity of the person and other rights and fundamental freedoms. The problem in question directly affects the rights, freedoms and dignity of the person. The human right to life, perceived as the highest value and encompassing all stages of earthly existence, as a rule, is not disputed by society and is not in doubt. Total technologization raises new questions about the human right to freely dispose of not only his life, but also death. In addition to the ethical assessment of the human right to life, the author gives a Christian assessment of such a final phase of human existence as dying, in connection with which the problem of establishing the boundaries of life and death is catalyzed due to the fact that this problem in particular is the particular focus of humanistic scrutiny of the modern pragmatic health system.
