Background: The incidence of limb fractures in children depends on environmental factors and socioeconomic backgrounds. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the epidemiology of limb fractures in 1 to 15-year-old children in Ilam City, Iran. Methods: This retrospective study enrolled all children aged 15 and below admitted to the Emam Khomeini Hospital of the Ilam University of Medical Sciences between July 2012 and March 2018. Data including age, sex, injury mechanism, and injured organs were recorded in SPSS software and analyzed using a chi-square test. Results: Out of 4877 children, 74.3% were boys, and 25.7% were girls, with the men to women ratio of 2.87 and the mean age of 9.10 ± 4.3 years. Elbow and forearm with 39.35% and leg with 21.61% were the most common sites of fractures. Home, street, and sports fields were the commonplaces of injury with 50.7%, 28.3%, and 7.2%, respectively. The age range of 8 - 15 years, with 3693 cases (75.72%) was the most vulnerable age group. Fractures occurred mostly in spring and summer and less frequently in the other seasons. Conclusions: Specific attention should be paid to the home environment and its safety for controlling injuries in preschool children. This includes increasing parents’ knowledge of preventive measures. Moreover, improving the physical condition of pavements and crosswalks in the streets is necessary for the prevention of injuries.

Background: Schizophrenia is a clinical syndrome of variable, but profoundly disruptive, psychopathology that involves cognition, emotion, perception and behaviour. Caregiver burden refers to negative response that occurs when the caregiver assumes an unpaid and unanticipated responsibility for the person with disabling mental health problems. The burden varies with socio-demographic parameters of patients and caregivers. Aims & Objectives: To study socio demographic details of schizophrenia patients and caregivers. To assess perceived level of burden in caregivers and it’s association with socio demographic profile of patients and caregivers. Materials & Methods: Ethics committee approval and informed consent was taken. 100 consecutive patients with their primary caregiver, presenting to psychiatry OPD of general hospital, satisfying inclusion criteria, were included in the study. Socio-demographic details of caregiver were collected using semi-structured proforma. Caregiver’s perceived burden was assessed with Burden Assessment Schedule. Data thus obtained, was pooled & analyzed by using SPSS software, descriptive statistics, mean, percentage, Chi- Square test. Results: The sample consisted of 52 female & 48 male patients. Prevalence of burden in caregivers was found to be 52%. The perceived burden was found to be high in caregivers of female patients, patients of older age, less educated, single, and unemployed patients. Majority of caregivers were female and of older age. The burden perceived was found to be significantly high in female caregivers, especially mother.

Background: Dysmenorrhea is the most common gynecological disorder in young women and is seen in almost 50% of women. The present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between physical activity and nutrition with primary dysmenorrhea in students at Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences (Sari, Iran) in 2015. Methods: This comparative descriptive study was conducted on 250 students with and without primary dysmenorrhea. Data were collected using personal-demographic, nutrition and physical activity questionnaires. The output was then analyzed in SPSS-18 using independent t-test, Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. Results: The results showed significant differences between the two groups in terms of nutrition and physical activity, as the mean score of nutrition was 57.91 in the group with dysmenorrhea and 61.68 in the group without, while the mean intensity of physical activity was 5518.75 metric in the group with dysmenorrhea and 4666.42 metric in the group without. Physical activity was calculated by MET scale (minutes/week). This index measured the amount of consumed energy at the time of activity relative to that consumed at resting time. Conclusions: A healthier and more favorable nutrition style and more regular physical activity reduces the severity of dysmenorrhea in girls. Therefore, educational measures are required to raise awareness among young women about the effects of proper nutrition and physical activity on the prevention and reduction of dysmenorrhea complications.

Background: Gingival pigmentation presents as a diffuse deep discoloration or as irregularly shaped brown and light brown or black patches, striate, or strands. It is generally agreed that pigmented areas are solely pre-sent when melanin granules, synthesized by melanocytes, are transferred to keratinocytes. Aim: To study the prevalence, extent, and etiology of gingival pigmentation among Riyadh Elm University clin-ics’ attendees. Design and Settings: Examinations were done in Riyadh Elm University by four calibrated examiners. Methods: Patients underwent a Gingival Index examination, followed by an assessment of the presence or ab-sence of gingival pigmentations. If the latter were present, the patient underwent a Hedin’s Melanin Index, a Gingival Melanosis Record, and a Von Luschan Scale examination to evaluate the extent, distribution, and col-or of the pigmentation. Statistical analysis: Cohen’s Kappa Test and Chi-Square Test Results: A total of 139 (80.3%) patients had gingival pigmentation, of which 79 (56.8%) were males. Gingival pigmentations were found in 42 (93.3%) cigarette smokers, 40 (83.3%) hubbly bubbly smokers, and 20 (86.9%) electronic cigarette smokers. Both arches were affected in 102 patients, the canines’ area had the highest incidence of pigmentation (88.9%) while the molars had the least incidence (18.1%). Scores of 2 and 3 on the Hedin’s Index were the highest at 51 and 52 patients respectively. The mean color of the pigmentations on the Von Luschan scale was 21.49 ± 4.59, but it was higher for smokers and patients with severe inflamma-tion. Conclusions : Gingival pigmentation was more prevalent among all types of smokers—cigarettes, hubbly bubbly, and e-cigarettes compared to non-smokers. More pigmentations were also associated with the higher intake. The major patterns of pigmentation distribution were the short-connected-continuous ribbons and the more-than-two-solitary-papillae.
