Introduction: Many procedures are performed on the scalp, such as excision of pilar and sebaceous cysts, melanocytic nevi, and reduction surgery for scarring alopecia, among others. In hair transplants, telogen effluvium is often reported 3 months after surgery; however, hair loss usually happens much earlier, around second week after the procedure, not compatible with the time required for hair to enter telogen and exogenous phases in normal conditions. Case Reports: We report 3 cases of anagen hair loss 4 weeks after surgeries, with perilesional trichoscopy suggesting anagen effluvium, with typical signs such as black dots and exclamation hairs. Discussion: There are only a few reports about hair loss around operated areas. The cause of this postoperative anagen effluvium is probably a transient ischemia. Conclusion: The practical importance of this phenomenon is to properly orient patients because most of the hair will be lost, since 85% of them are anagens, and also will have spontaneous recovery in the next 3 months.

AbstractGraham-Little-Piccardi-Lassueur syndrome (GLPLS) is a rare syndrome characterized by the triad of cicatricial alopecia of the scalp, non-cicatricial alopecia of the axilla and groin and follicular lichen planus eruptions on the trunk and extremities. GLPLS is considered to be a variant of lichen planopilaris. We report two cases that have fulfilled all of the criteria for GLPLS. The first case was a 71-year-old woman, admitted to the Department of Dermatology for pruritic perifollicullar erythema and scaling of the scalp, cicatricial scalp alopecia and hair loss of the axilla and pubic region for five months. Subsequently, follicular hyperkeratotic eruptions and hyperpigmented macules on the skin of the chest and abdomen appeared. The second case was a 48-year-old man with pruritic follicular papules on the face, trunk and extremities for four months. All of the laboratory examinations in both patients were within normal limits. No alternation in the general condition of the patients was observed. Histological examinations in both patients confirmed the diagnosis GLPLS. The patients were treated with systemic and local corticosteroid resulting in marked improvement of the skin lesions; however, cicatricial scalp alopecia showed no response to the treatment.

Fibrosing alopecia in a pattern distribution (FAPD) is a relatively new entity in the family of cicatricial alopecia. It has been categorized as a member of the lichen planopilaris (LPP) group due to its similarity in clinical and histopathological presentation. Nonetheless, the disease earns its own entity due to its lichenoid inflammation exclusively involving miniaturized hair and area of involvement mimicking pattern hair loss which differentiates itself from other types of LPP or pattern hair loss. Since its first introduction by Zinkernagel and Trüeb in 2000, there have been only few case reports and series of FAPD. We herein report a case of FAPD in a postmenopausal woman who had progressive hair loss over the course of 10 years.

5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) preparations were anticipated to be and generally are better tolerated than sulphasalazine. Minor side effects such as headache, dizziness, abdominal pain and nausea do occur but are not more frequent than in placebo-treated patients. Approximately 10% of patients thought to be allergic to sulphasalazine are also allergic to 5-ASA. An idiosyncratic reaction with worsening of symptoms can occur. Diarrhea is more common with olsalazine, and it is due to the effect of olsalazine itself on the small bowel. not the 5-ASA component. There are case reports of pancreatitis, pericarditis and bronchospasm, retrosternal chest pain, mild neutropenia, nephrotic syndrome and hair loss associated with 5-ASA treatment. Patients with oligospermia due to sulphasalazine have improved when switched to 5-ASA. 5-ASA enemas can cause local irritation or other effects resulting from enema tip insertion.

Hair loss is a rare side effect of psychotropic drugs. The most related drug class with this side effect is the mood stabilizers. Studies reporting the sertraline-induced alopecia are limited in number. Sertraline is a potent antidepressant which inhibits the serotonin reuptake from the presynaptic terminals selectively. The reason for hair loss could not be elucidated completely. Psychotropic drugs are usually considered to lead to hair loss through influencing the telogen phase of hair follicle. This paper reports a 21-year-old male with diffuse hair loss induced by sertraline use and improved by quitting the drug. To the best of our knowledge, there are no other case reports on sertraline-induced alopecia within 2 weeks.
