The formation of a protective layer of tow silane coupling agents: γ -methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (γ-MPS) or γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (γ-APS) on copper is studied by diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy (DRIFT), electrochemical (Potentiodynamic polarization) and gravimetric chemical (Weight loss) measurements. Dried in ambient conditions, the silane adsorbed on the copper subtract physically, however its protective action is not reliable. Thiolate and siloxane band formation ameliorate the protective action of the silanic layer on the surface of copper especially after curing process. Potentiodynamic polarization and Weight loss experiments show that the performances protective action of cured treatment (cured/Cu-silane) is higher than that of aging process (aged/Cu-silane).

The goal of this paper was to study the modification of porous clay heterostructures (PCHs) with various silane coupling agents. Two commercial coupling agents (3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane (APTES) and 3-glycidoxypropyl-trimethoxysilane (GPTMS)) with different functional groups (amine and epoxy groups) were used as modifying agents for the PCHs functionalization. The functionalization of PCH with APTES and GPTMS was evaluated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-Ray Diffractions (XRD) and BET Analysis. FTIR spectra of modified PCHs confirmed the presence of characteristic peaks of silane coupling agents. TGA results highlighted an increase of weight loss for the modified PCHs that was assigned to the degradation of silane coupling agents (APTES and GPTMS) attached to the PCHs. The XRD results showed that the structure of modified PCHs was influenced by the type of the silane coupling agent. The functionalization of PCHs with silane coupling agents was also confirmed by BET analysis. Textural parameters (specific surface area (SBET), total pore volume (Vt )) suggested that the modified PCHs exhibit lower values of SBET and a significant decrease of total pore volume than unmodified PCHs.

AbstractThis paper presents the corrosion and inhibition behavior of heat-treated EN8 dual-phase steel with ferrite-martensite structure with pectin in 0.5 M sulphuric acid. The corrosion studies were performed using the weight loss method, electrochemical techniques such as potentiodynamic polarization measurements, and impedance spectroscopy. The study was done at different concentrations of pectin in the temperature range of 40 to 70 °C and immersion time of 1, 3, 5, and 7 h. The results showed that the inhibition performance of pectin has enhanced with an increase in pectin concentration and decreased with the temperature and time of exposure. From the weight loss study, highest inhibition efficiency of 76.43% was achieved at 5.0 g/L at 1 h of exposure at 40 °C. The maximum inhibition efficiency of 62% was obtained with 5.0 g/L of pectin at 40 °C by potentiodynamic polarization method. The energy, enthalpy, and entropy of activation and also thermodynamic parameters like free energy, enthalpy, and entropy of adsorption were assessed and discussed. Appropriate adsorption isotherm was fit to the obtained experimental outcomes and achieved Langmuir adsorption isotherm to be the best fit and obeyed physical adsorption. Surface analysis: scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction techniques, atomic force microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray were done with and without the addition of pectin. The metal surface appears to be uniform and smooth in the presence of pectin and adsorption was confirmed by surface analysis.

The attainable efficiency of an accessory for diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy where both the irradiation and detection optics are located on the same side of the sample is analyzed, the size-dependent noise level of the detector being taken into account. The resulting figures of merit are found to reach up to more than 0.3, when standard detectors of 60° field-of-view are considered.
