This study examines the ontological problems in the aspect of the ratio of different cognitive practices and their mutual conditionality in the context of communication and their socio-cultural prerequisites, which is possible only if the traditional approach to the distinction between epistemology and faith is revised. Based on the idea of identity of common grounds of cognitive practices “belief” is included in the understanding of interpretation in the communicative situation for true knowledge in each of the modes of being. Belief in the philosophical tradition reveals the ontological foundations of hermeneutics. Three reflections are synthesised: the hermeneutic concept of understanding, the structuralist concept of language, and the psychoanalytic concept of personality. It is necessary to apply the method of phenomenological reduction to the ontological substantiation of hermeneutics in the Christian Orthodox tradition. Hence, the very natural seems the meeting of semantics, linguistics, and onomatodoxy, with the ontology language of Heidegger, the origins of which resides in in Husserl phenomenology. Fundamental ontology and linguistics, cult philosophy - both in different ways open the horizons of substantiation of hermeneutics. The beginning of this justification is the hermeneutic problem in Christianity, which has appeared as a sequence of the question of the relationship between the two Covenants, or two Unions. In the paper, the author attempts to identify the stages of constructing the philosophical concept of Pavel Florensky. As a result, the substantiation of the birth of the world in consciousness by the cult is revealed. Ontological tradenote words can be seen in Florensky through symbols. The symbol makes the transition from a small energy to a larger one, from a small information saturation to a greater one, acting as a lumen of being - when by the name we hear the reality. The word comes into contact with the world that is on the other side of our own psychological state. The word, the symbol shifts all the time from subjective to objective. The communicative model acts as a common point uniting these traditions. The religious approach as part of semiotic approach reveals the horizons of ontological conditionality of language and words, and among the words - the name, as the name plays a central role in the accumulation and transmission of information, understanding of the commonality of this conditionality in the concepts of phenomenology and Christian, Orthodox tradition.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to analyze cloud reviews according to the end-user context and requirements.Design/methodology/approachpropose a comprehensive knowledge base composed of interconnected Web Ontology Language, namely, modular ontology for cloud service opinion analysis (SOPA). The SOPA knowledge base will be the basis of context-aware cloud service analysis using consumers' reviews. Moreover, the authors provide a framework to evaluate cloud services based on consumers' reviews opinions.FindingsThe findings show that there is a positive impact of personalizing the cloud service analysis by considering the reviewers' contexts in the performance of the framework. The authors also proved that the SOPA-based framework outperforms the available cloud review sites in term of precision, recall and F-measure.Research limitations/implicationsLimited information has been provided in the semantic web literature about the relationships between the different domains and the details on how that can be used to evaluate cloud service through consumer reviews and latent opinions. Furthermore, existing approaches are lacking lightweight and modular mechanisms which can be utilized to effectively exploit information existing in social media.Practical implicationsThe SOPA-based framework facilitates the opinion based service evaluation through a large number of consumer's reviews and assists the end-users in analyzing services as per their requirements and their own context.Originality/valueThe SOPA ontology is capable of representing the content of a product/service as well as its related opinions, which are extracted from the customer's reviews written in a specific context. Furthermore, the SOPA-based framework facilitates the opinion based service evaluation through a large number of consumer's reviews and assists the end-users in analyzing services as per their requirements and their own context.

AbstractOWL (Web Ontology Language) is the standard language for Semantic Web and is used in defining ontologies for Web. Temporal event data are ubiquitous in nature. Temporal data can be represented qualitatively using temporal relations in OWL, enabling temporal ordering of events which plays a vital role in task planners. The basic Allen’s temporal interval relations can be used to describe relations in OWL. Allen’s interval algebra is a well known formalism used to represent and reason the temporal knowledge. In this work, Allen’s interval algebra is extended by Reference Event based Temporal (REseT) relations to reduce the ambiguity in the before relation. The extended formalism is used in the representation of relations between time intervals and the viability of ordering of events in ontology is elucidated. This paper proposes a temporal knowledge representation and reasoning based event ordering system which helps in the temporal ordering of events. The advantage of this method is that it does not introduce any additional constructs in OWL and hence the existing reasoning tools and DL based query languages are capable of generating the linear order of events. The system is investigated experimentally using the COW (Correlates of War) dataset and has been evaluated using the Percent_ Similarity measure.

ObjectiveMalaria is one of the top causes of death in Africa and some other regions in the world. Data driven surveillance activities are essential for enabling the timely interventions to alleviate the impact of the disease and eventually eliminate malaria. Improving the interoperability of data sources through the use of shared semantics is a key consideration when designing surveillance systems, which must be robust in the face of dynamic changes to one or more components of a distributed infrastructure. Here we introduce a semantic framework to improve interoperability of malaria surveillance systems (SIEMA).IntroductionIn 2015, there were 212 million new cases of malaria, and about 429,000 malaria death, worldwide. African countries accounted for almost 90% of global cases of malaria and 92% of malaria deaths. Currently, malaria data are scattered across different countries, laboratories, and organizations in different heterogeneous data formats and repositories. The diversity of access methodologies makes it difficult to retrieve relevant data in a timely manner. Moreover, lack of rich metadata limits the reusability of data and its integration. The current process of discovering, accessing and reusing the data is inefficient and error-prone profoundly hindering surveillance efforts.As our knowledge about malaria and appropriate preventive measures becomes more comprehensive malaria data management systems, data collection standards, and data stewardship are certain to change regularly. Collectively these changes will make it more difficult to perform accurate data analytics or achieve reliable estimates of important metrics, such as infection rates. Consequently, there is a critical need to rapidly re-assess the integrity of data and knowledge infrastructures that experts depend on to support their surveillance tasks.MethodsIn order to address the challenge of heterogeneity of malaria data sources we recruit domain specific ontologies in the field (e.g. IDOMAL (1)) that define a shared lexicon of concepts and relations. These ontologies are expressed in the standard Web Ontology Language (OWL).To over come challenges in accessing distributed data resources we have adopted the Semantic Automatic Discovery & Integration framework (SADI) (2) to ensure interoperability. SADI provides a way to describe services that provide access to data, detailing inputs and outputs of services and a functional description. Existing ontology terms are used when building SADI Service descriptions. The services can be discovered by querying a registry and combined into complex workflows. Users can issue SPARQL syntax to a query engine which can plan complex workflows to fetch actual data, without having to know how target data is structured or where it is located.In order to tackle changes in target data sources, the ontologies or the service definitions, we create a Dashboard (3) that can report any changes. The Dashboard reuses some existing tools to perform a series of checks. These tools compare versions of ontologies and databases allowing the Dashboard to report these changes. Once a change has been identified, as series of recommendations can be made, e.g. services can be retired or updated so that data access can continue.ResultsWe used the Mosquito Insecticide Resistance Ontology (MIRO) (5) to define the common lexicon for our data sources and queries. The sources we created are CSV files that use the IRbase (4) schema. With the data defined using we specified several SPARQL queries and the SADI services needed to answer them. These services were designed to enabled access to the data separated in different files using different formats. In order to showcase the capabilities of our Dashboard, we also modified parts of the service definitions, of the ontology and of the data sources. This allowed us to test our change detection capabilities. Once changes where detected, we manually updated the services to comply with a revised ontology and data sources and checked that the changes we proposed where yielding services that gave the right answers. In the future, we plan to make the updating of the services automatic.ConclusionsBeing able to make the relevant information accessible to a surveillance expert in a seamless way is critical in tackling and ultimately curing malaria. In order to achieve this, we used existing ontologies and semantic web services to increase the interoperability of the various sources. The data as well as the ontologies being likely to change frequently, we also designed a tool allowing us to detect and identify the changes and to update the services so that the whole surveillance systems becomes more resilient.References1. Answering conjunctive queries (CQs) over a set of facts extended with existential rules is a prominent problem in knowledge representation and databases. This problem can be solved using the chase algorithm, which extends the given set of facts with fresh facts in order to satisfy the rules. If the chase terminates, then CQs can be evaluated directly in the resulting set of facts. The chase, however, does not terminate necessarily, and checking whether the chase terminates on a given set of rules and facts is undecidable. Numerous acyclicity notions were proposed as sufficient conditions for chase termination. In this paper, we present two new acyclicity notions called model-faithful acyclicity (MFA) and model-summarising acyclicity (MSA). Furthermore, we investigate the landscape of the known acyclicity notions and establish a complete taxonomy of all notions known to us. Finally, we show that MFA and MSA generalise most of these notions. Existential rules are closely related to the Horn fragments of the OWL 2 ontology language; furthermore, several prominent OWL 2 reasoners implement CQ answering by using the chase to materialise all relevant facts. In order to avoid termination problems, many of these systems handle only the OWL 2 RL profile of OWL 2; furthermore, some systems go beyond OWL 2 RL, but without any termination guarantees. In this paper we also investigate whether various acyclicity notions can provide a principled and practical solution to these problems. On the theoretical side, we show that query answering for acyclic ontologies is of lower complexity than for general ontologies. On the practical side, we show that many of the commonly used OWL 2 ontologies are MSA, and that the number of facts obtained by materialisation is not too large. Our results thus suggest that principled development of materialisation-based OWL 2 reasoners is practically feasible.

The ubiquity of uncertainty across application domains generates a need for principled support for uncertainty management in semantically aware systems. A probabilistic ontology provides constructs for representing uncertainty in domain ontologies. While the literature has been growing on formalisms for representing uncertainty in ontologies, there remains little guidance in the knowledge engineering literature for how to design probabilistic ontologies. To address the gap, this paper presents the Uncertainty Modeling Process for Semantic Technology (UMP-ST), a new methodology for modeling probabilistic ontologies. To explain how the methodology works and to verify that it can be applied to different scenarios, this paper describes step-by-step the construction of a proof-of-concept probabilistic ontology. The resulting domain model can be used to support identification of fraud in public procurements in Brazil. While the case study illustrates the development of a probabilistic ontology in the PR-OWL probabilistic ontology language, the methodology is applicable to any ontology formalism that properly integrates uncertainty with domain semantics.
