ABSTRACTThis investigation involves the identification and use of a novel type of fiber optic sensors in monitoring the deformation behavior of critical sections of the structural concrete elements and transforming them into smart systems. Basic operating principles of the Bragg-grating sensors identified in this work are proved to be feasible. Deformational behavior was studied of high performance concrete composite beams reinforced with prestressed prisms and instrumented with Bragg Grating fiber optic sensors. The experimental techniques using those sensors for evaluating their behavior at service load stages, and the potential of this technique for on-line, real-time monitoring of existing constructed concrete structures are presented.

This research was conducted using a spectral database comprising 346 samples of processed animal proteins (PAPs) with a range of compositions, analyzed using a Fourier transform near-infrared spectroscopy multichannel instrument (Matrix-F, Bruker Optics) coupled to a 100 m fiber optic cable. Using both its static and dynamic operating modes (on a conveyor belt), simulating the movement of the product in the plant, the predictive capabilities of both modes of analysis were assessed and compared, for the purposes of predicting moisture, protein, and ashes. The results show that both exhibit highly similar degrees of precision and accuracy for predicting these parameters. This research provides a foundation of scientific-technical knowledge, hitherto unknown, regarding the “on-line” incorporation of an instrument (equipped with a 100 m fiber optic cable) into a processing plant of by-products of animal origin.

Insulation aging diagnosis provides early warning of electrical equipment defects that helps avoid loss from unexpected production line shutdown. Since relations of insulation aging and partial discharge dynamics are nonlinear, it is very difficult to provide early warning in electrical equipment. This paper suggests a new method for diagnosing insulation aging that measures partial discharge on-line from DAS(Data Acquisition System) and acquires 2D patterns from analyzing it using wavelets. Using this data, design of a neurofuzzy model that diagnoses electrical equipment is investigated. Validity of the new method is confirmed by numerical simulation.
