Indonesia and Malaysia have established cooperation on various aspects of the border regions for decades. For instance, the two countries have ratified the 1984 Security Arrangement Treaty, where the General Border Committee (“GBC”) is established to contend the security aspect of the border areas. The GBC also formed a Social Economic Committee of Indonesia and Malaysia, which is called the SOSEKMALINDO. This committee focuses on the social and economic aspects of the border. Meanwhile, there has been the 1970 Agreement on Border Trade that governs the movement of goods in and out of the border and maintain the border’s economy. As time goes by, the border cooperation between the two countries has developed, resulting the need to meet the new challenges in terms of border security. Hence, this paper provides an analysis on the urgency to reform the 1984 Security Arrangement Treaty.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in over millions confirmed cases and over hundred thousand of deaths globally. It has brought difficult situations for citizens of nations across the world, and have sparked fears of an impending economic crisis and recession. Policy markers and public managers worldwide are put on the test on their crisis management capability. This paper is the summary that I presented in The Fourth Conference on Sustainability Science organized by the Center for Environment and Sustainability Science, University of Padjadjaran (UNPAD) on 8th October, 2020. In this paper, the responses and impacts of COVID-19 pandemic of Asian and African countries will be introduced. Learning from these experiences, we seek for hints that would be needed for the sustainable recovery of the Post Pandemic COVID-19 global society.

ABSTRAK.  Desa Pakraman Julah merupakan salah satu desa adat tertua di Bali, desa ini sudah ada pada tahun caka 844 pada masa pemerintahan Sang Ratu Sri Ugrasena di Bali. Desa Pakraman Julah ini tepatnya terletak di Kecamatan Tejakula, Bali. Desa ini mempunyai keunikan tersendiri, dari adat istiadat, kebudayaan dan juga arsitektur yang dimilikinya seperti pola permukiman dan pola huniannya. Penelitian ini mengangkat permasalahan mengenai sejauh mana aspek sosial, ekonomi dan budaya mempengaruhi dan berkaitan erat dengan terbentuknya pola permukiman dan pola hunian di Desa Pakraman  Julah ini. Pola permukiman pada Desa Pakraman Julah ini terbentuk karena didasari oleh adanya konsep “Nyegara Gunung”, yang ada di dalam adat istiadat dan filsafat masyarakat Bali. Di dalam filosofi Bali “Nyegara Gunung” adalah bahwa elemen antara laut dan gunung tidak dapat dipisahkan, dan menjadi satu kesatuan yang sejajar dan saling mendukung satu sama lainnya. Sementara itu pola hunian yang ada di dalam masyarakat Desa Pakraman Julah terbentuk karena adanya konsep “Rwa Bhineda” yaitu dua elemen/ hal yang bertentangan seperti: luan-teben; sakral-profan, hulu-hilir; utara-selatan; positif-negatif; dan sebagainya. Pola permukiman dan pola hunian yang terbentuk di dalam kehidupan masyarakat Desa Pakraman Julah maupun desa adat lainnya di Bali, tentunya secara tidak langsung di pengaruhi oleh aspek sosial, ekonomi dan budaya yang dimiliki oleh masyarakat tersebut. Di dalam penelitian inilah akan dikaji lebih dalam mengenai kaitan dan hubungan timbal balik antara terbentuknya pola permukiman dan pola hunian di Desa Pakraman Julah ini dengan aspek sosial, ekonomi, dan budayanya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif komparatif yang mengedepankan pendekatan deduktif dalam analisis pembahasannya.Kata Kunci: pola permukiman, pola hunian, aspek sosial, aspek ekonomi, aspek budaya ABSTRACT.  Desa Pakraman Julah is one of the old traditional villages in Bali. This village has existed since 844 year of caka, during the reign of Queen Sri Urgrasena in Bali. Pakraman Julah Village is precisely located in Tejakula District, Bali. This village has its own uniqueness, from customs, culture and also its architecture such as the pattern of settlements and patterns of the dwelling. This study raises the issue of the extent to which social, economic and cultural aspects affect and is closely related to the formation of settlement patterns and patterns of the dwelling in this Pakraman Julah Village. The pattern of settlement in Pakraman Julah Village is formed because it is based on the concept of "Nyegara Gunung", which is in the customs and philosophy of Balinese society. In the Balinese philosophy "Nyegara Gunung" is that the elements between sea and mountain cannot be separated, and become a unity parallel and mutually supportive of each other. Meanwhile, the pattern of occupancy that existed in the community of Pakraman Julah Village was formed because of the concept of "Rwa Bhineda" ie two elements/ contradictory things such as luan-teben (outside-inside); sacred-profane, upstream-downstream; north-south; positive-negative; etc. The pattern of settlements and pattern of the dwelling that formed in the life of the community of Pakraman Julah Village and other traditional villages in Bali, of course, indirectly influenced by social, economic and cultural aspects of the community. In this research will be studied more deeply about the relationship and reciprocal relationship between the formation of settlement patterns and pattern of the dwelling in this Pakraman Julah Village with the social, economic, and cultural aspects. Abstract. Studentification is a neighbourhood changes caused by the students’ presence in the permanent settlement then influence the area; students accomodation supply and community’s social economic aspects. This research revealed the influence of studentification in Tembalang higher education area to the physical and social economic aspects. Qualitative research method was used to explain more about the studentification influence and the Tembalang development trend. Interview conducted to some key figures in the community such as Lurah, community leaders, and students to find out their perception regarding the neighbourhood transformation. Based on analysis, it showed that studentification emerged since the Pleburan campus moved to Tembalang campus which students accomodation demand increased significantly. Moreover, the studentification influences seen from the increasing of land price, land use conversion, and students’ life style that affected the community’s job-shifting. However, the development of Tembalang higher education area still on the track based on the guidance and spatial pattern structure recommendation of Semarang Spatial Plan 2011-2030.

Alienation, Private Property, and Democracy: Why Worrell and Krier Raise Questions in the Clouds

In this article, I argue that Marx’s philosophy does not commit us to Worrell and Krier’s claim that a post-capitalist society will be a social formation in which all social relations appear unmediated to their agents. Quite the opposite is true: given his Hegelian background, which Marx never gives up, social relations are in principle to be mediated by the results of human productive acts, and although a socialist society no longer is mediated by capital, it still cannot be thought without a legal, ethical, and political form of these relations. Those meditations (which Worrell and Krier do not separate clearly from social-economic aspects) will be universal. Accordingly, the authors’ claim that Marx is opposed to the concept of the universal is baseless. In addition, I demonstrate that Worrell and Krier’s interpretation of Marx’s concept of alienation as a romantic concept is misguided and, instead, that we would do well to focus on the concept of private property. Finally, I show that they do not properly grasp Marx’s concepts of democracy and communism.

Abstract Eurointegration is an important direction for Ukraine, especially in present political situation. Social-economic condition is very important for entering into European organizations. In this article social-economic aspects of Lviv Region, which is a border region, in conditions of modern Eurointegration are studied. On the basis of the statistic report of social-economic condition of Lviv Region of Main Department of Statistics in Lviv Region an analysis was done, which allowed making conclusions of actual condition of the region. The task of the study is to determine basic directions of regional socialeconomic development. Main methodological approaches are systemic, chorological and chronological and also such approaches as synergetic and informational. Demographic situation of the region is being analyzed in the article, in particular indicators of natural and mechanic movement of the population, and gender-age structure of the population is also described. Peculiarities of economic development of the region are revealed, indicators of gross regional product and index of competitiveness are analyzed. The condition and tendencies of research and innovation activity of the region are presented, and also a situation in small and medium business is depicted. The studies have demonstrated, that Lviv Region, in comparison with other regions of Ukraine, is characterized by high enough social-economic development. Non-productive branch, the part of which is a scientific potential (research and project-design establishments, higher educational institutions), financial organizations, trade enterprises and food industry, which totally can satisfy the needs of the region, are relatively well developed. At the same time there are also unfavorable demographic tendencies in the region, in particular depopulation of the population is the result of negative natural growth. Perspectives of the development of the region are proposed in the article, in particular the direction of regional strategy and cross-border cooperation.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of economic crisis on social economic aspects using conceptual and empirical findings measurement models. The economy is gradually recovering from a deep recession but high social costs persist. Significant structural reforms have been legislated, but their mix and implementation were uneven. Stronger exports and investment are a key to sustained recovery. Economic crisis is a phenomenon in which an economy is characterized by a sustained and significant reduction of economic activity. Economic activity refers to all aggregates of the economy such as employment, national output, prices, investments and other. It is easy to understand that the country has faced both market liquidity problems and the drop in living standards due to the austerity measures and the structural problems which hinder entrepreneurship.
