This Letter reports the development of a knitted fabric composite material using Kevlar 49 fibres and ultraviolet (UV) curable resin for a biomedical device, prosthetic socket application. Material fabrication and mechanical characterisation are described. The mechanical properties of this new material are comparable with those of a currently used indirect socket material. Compared with other available direct sockets, this new material is capable of better conforming to patient's stump and has longer gel time for manual operations involved.

The rice husk powder was modified by polymer (lactic acid) (PLA) and Maleic anhydride (coupling agent, MAPP). Composite material was prepared in the way of melt blending. The mechanical properties, water absorbability of rice husk/polymer (lactic acid) (PLA) composites, and the relations between these properties and microscopic characteristics were investigated. The result showed that, with the increasing content of rice husk power, the maximum bearable tension and tensile strength increased; Water absorbability after 2 hours’ immersion hadn't significant change, but after 24 hours’ immersion, the water absorbing capacity had obvious addition. The study also showed that coupling agent could significantly reduce the water absorbability of composite materials; The use of scanning electron microscope (SEM) found that the interface became smoother, the adhesion between PLA and rice husk powder became closer when add the coupling agent to the rice husk powder, it also could well explain the differences between water absorbability and mechanical properties.

Fly ash is generated during the combustion of coal and rice husk ash is generated by the combustion of rice husk for energy production. Fly ash is industrial waste and rice husk ash is agricultural waste that is widely available worldwide. The utilization of fly ash, rice husk and rice husk ash in various applications has done a great deal to solve the waste problem. The present paper gives a short review of the utilization of fly ash, rice husk and rice husk ash as a composite material. The developed composite material is used in various applications, such as in the automobile industry and in other applications

Polymer composite materials based on low molecular weight silicone rubber SKTN-D have been developed, which are supposed to be used as impression materials in dentistry. Vegetable silicon dioxide obtained from rice husk waste was studied as a filler.
