Abstract This article present wideband Metamaterial Cross Polarizer (MCP) structure for C and X band applications. The proposed structure consists of wheel shaped associated with meander line and triangular shaped patches having overall dimension of 18 × 18 mm. The anisotropic design patchis a single metallic layer (Cu) placed at the top of dielectric substrate FR-4 and backed by a ground also consists of metal layer (Cu). A wideband Polarization Conversion Ratio (PCR) above 0.8 magnitudes is achieved having bandwidth of 8.1 GHz ranging from 3.43 to 11.53 GHz and it works for C (4–8 GHz) and X (8–12 GHz) band approximately. The bandwidth of PCR at Full Width Half Maxima (FWHM) achieved is 8.24 GHz (3.60–11.84 GHz). Three distinct PCR peaks are observed at 4.2, 5.98, and 9.46 GHz with PCR magnitudes at 91.07, 96.39, and 99.76% respectively. Analysis of polarization conversion phenomena at these three frequencies is described with the help of current and electric field distribution. The proposed anisotropic structure is examined at different angles under normal and oblique incident. The simulation is performed through ANSYS HFSS (19.1), fabrication is done on substrate FR-4 using printed circuit board (PCB). The simulated and measured curves obtained for reflection coefficient and PCR are similar to one another with minute difference due to fabrication tolerances.

A fission transmission linear-to-circular polarization conversion based on bi-layer structure is proposed which is composed of 3 × 3 array to convert linear-to-circular polarized wave. The structure is constructed by half square with “H” shape printed on both sides of the dielectric substrate that are subjected to obtain multi-band at resonance frequencies. The proposed structure realizes the giant circular polarization under the normal incidence for right and left circular polarized waves. After transmission, the incident wave decomposed into two orthogonal linear components have equal magnitudes and 90o phase difference between them. The novel approach of “fission transmission of electromagnetic waves” is firstly introduced to understand the physics of giant circular polarization conversion which is based on the sequence of incident and transmitted waves to generate strong circular dichroism.

A hybrid dual-frequency polarized reconfigurable terahertz antenna is designed and studied. Graphene and TOPAS are employed as the polarization conversion metasurface and dielectric substrate, respectively, enabling tunable polarization conversion and circular polarization. TOPAS is a good substrate material for broadband THz components due to its low absorption. By adjusting the chemical potential of graphene between 0 eV and 0.5 eV, the polarization state in the band of 1 THz (0.76–1.02 THz) and 2.5 THz (2.43–2.6 THz) can be reconstructed. Thanks to the multilayer graphene structure and low absorption TOPAS, the graphene metasurface exhibits a broad bandwidth of 0.26 and 0.17 THz, respectively, in the band of 1 THz and 2.5 THz. The working state of the circularly polarized antenna and linearly polarized antenna can be switched in the bands around 1 THz (0.7–0.75 THz, 0.96–1.04 THz) and 2.5 THz (2.42–2.52 THz), respectively, without changing the physical geometry. Moreover, the graphene antenna, metasurface, and hybrid structure are tested, respectively, to verify that the components do not interfere with each other in performance. The hybrid antenna shows great potential in tunable terahertz devices and related applications.

A dual-band microwave metamaterial absorber with single-peak regulation and wide-angle absorption has been proposed and illustrated. The designed metamaterial absorber is consisted of hollow-cross resonators, solid-cross resonators, dielectric substrate and metallic background plane. Strong absorption peak coefficients of 99.92% and 99.55% are achieved at 8.42 and 11.31 GHz, respectively, which is basically consistent with the experimental results. Surface current density and changing material properties are employed to illustrate the absorptive mechanism. More importantly, the proposed dual-band metamaterial absorber has the adjustable property of single absorption peak and could operate well at wide incidence angles for both transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) waves. Research results could provide and enrich instructive guidances for realizing a single-peak-regulation and wide-angle dual-band metamaterial absorber.

In this proposed paper, a single band microstrip patch antenna for fifth generation (5G) wireless application was presented. 28, 38, 60 and 73 GHz frequency bands have been allocated for 5G mobile communications by International Telecommunications Union (ITU). In this paper, we proposed an antenna, which is suitable for the millimeter wave frequency. The single band antenna consists of new slot loaded on the radiating patch with the 50 ohms microstrip line feeding used. This single band antenna was simulated on a FR4 dielectric substrate have relative permittivity 4.4, loss tangent 0.02, and height 1.6 mm. The antenna was simulated by Electromagnetic simulation, computer software technology High Frequency Structural Simulator. And simulated result on return loss, VSWR, radiation pattern and 3D gain was presented. The parameters of the results well coherent and proved the literature for millimeter wave 5G wireless application at 38 GHz.

AbstractA simple design of a broadband multifunctional polarization converter using an anisotropic metasurface for X-band application is proposed. The proposed polarization converter consists of a periodic array of the two-corner-cut square patch resonators based on the FR-4 substrate that achieves both cross-polarization and linear-to-circular polarization conversions. The simulated results show that the polarization converter displays the linear cross-polarization conversion in the frequency range from 8 to 12 GHz with the polarization conversion efficiency above 90%. The efficiency is kept higher than 80% with wide incident angle up to 45°. Moreover, the proposed design achieves the linear-to-circular polarization conversion at two frequency bands of 7.42–7.6 GHz and 13–13.56 GHz. A prototype of the proposed polarization converter is fabricated and measured, showing a good agreement between the measured and simulated results. The proposed polarization converter exhibits excellent performances such as simple structure, multifunctional property, and large cost-efficient bandwidth and wide incident angle insensitivity in the linear cross polarization conversion, which can be useful for X-band applications. Furthermore, this structure can be extended to design broadband polarization converters in other frequency bands.
