AbstractIn this study, a new ultra-wideband (UWB) band-edge selectivity antenna with a modified radiation slot using defected ground structure (DGS) is presented to obtain bandpass filtering reflection coefficient and gain performance. The well-designed DGS is designed on backside metallic of the substrate and can be seen as a low-pass filter that provides a good roll-off at a higher frequency. By connecting the DGS and the stepped slot and making them merge with each other, good cut-off property in the upper passband and better in-band impedance characteristics are obtained. Measured results show that the proposed design not only shows good band-edge selectivity in reflection coefficient and gain performance but also has a good impedance matching of −13.5 dB reflection coefficients and a good radiation efficiency of 90% in the operating frequencies. The measured bandwidth defined with the reflection coefficient less than −10 dB is from 3.1–11.2 GHz. Furthermore, the size of the filtering UWB antenna is 22 mm × 12 mm, which is smaller than many individual UWB antennas and UWB filters.

In this research paper a design of Microstip patch antenna for the ultra-wide band (UWB) applications is presented. Ultra wide band antennas has very wide band of operation which accommodates many communication frequencies as set by the federal commission of communication. The UWB antennas is based on the micro strip patch antenna concept and the design of the antenna is based on the stack antenna or multi-layer antenna. Stacking is used in designing for increasing the bandwidth of the antenna so stacking concept is good for the designing of the UWB antenna. The feeding used to feed the antenna is micro strip line feed. Micro strip line feeding technique is one of very popular feeding technique to feed the antenna because its fabrication is very simple. The proposed design is simulated in the CADFEKO software which is very useful for the design and analysis of a wide range of electromagnetic problem. It has many applications to simulate 3D electromagnetic circuit included antenna design, micro strip antenna and circuits. The simulation results shows the antenna bandwidth of 13.9 GHz from 2.6 to 16.5 GHz. So we can clearly say that the antenna is ultra-wide band in nature.

Two novel dual band-notched ultra-wideband (UWB) printed monopole antennas with simple structure and small size are presented. The size of both antennas is25×25×0.8 mm3. The bandwidth of one of the proposed antenna can be from 2.7 GHz to 36.8 GHz, except the bandwidth of 3.2–3.9 GHz for WiMAX applications and 5.14–5.94 GHz for WLAN applications. The bandwidth of the other is ranging for 2.7 to 41.1 GHz, except the bandwidth of 3.2–3.9 GHz for WiMAX applications and 4.8–5.9 GHz for WLAN applications. Bandwidths of the antennas are about 512% and 455% wider than those of conventional band-notched UWB antennas, respectively. In addition, the time-domain characteristics of the two antennas are investigated to show the difference between both antennas.

Abstract. A spherical near-field antenna measurement facility employing a time domain hardware gating technique is presented. On-off keyed sinusoidal impulses are used as stimuli requiring wideband antennas with a bandwidth in excess of 400 MHz. The received signal is evaluated in the time interval after reaching the steady state and before multipath components arising in the non-ideal anechoic chamber distort the signal. An application specific pulse generator synthesizing sinusoidal impulses with a sub-nanosecond settling time and a low-cost equivalent time (ET) sampling receiver developed and optimized for this particular purpose are described. Measurement results of typical ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas show a significant improvement of the measured antenna pattern compared to conventional techniques.

An ultrashort-pulse radar using ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas such as compact Vivaldi antennas has been applied to the simulation experiment of breast cancer detection. A cooking-oil model and a commercial-made synthetic breast phantom model, which have been developed, as well as with real breast cancer patients during initial clinical trials have been used in our experiment. We detect the breast cancer tumor without using the background subtraction method. Image reconstructions of the breast models using reflection data have been performed by use of confocal microwave imaging (CMI) technique.

Background & Objective: The circular slotted monopole microstrip antenna with Coplanar Waveguide (CPW) feed for unified GSM and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) applications have been presented in this article. Circular shaped slots have been embedded in the radiating patch. Less surface area has been found due to slots etching and the overall antenna size is reduced by 45%. Result: The proposed antenna demonstrates a double band operation wrapping 883.6-1206 MHz (GSM band) and 2.75-18.30 GHz (UWB, X, and Ku) frequency band with VSWR of less than 2 and fractional B. W. of 30.8 % and 147% respectively. The pattern of radiation presented by the antenna is nearly omnidirectional in H-plane and directional in E-plane within the GSM and UWB band. Conclusion: There is a variety of applications nowadays using these UWB antennas such as modern civil and military applications, wireless and radar communications, etc. Measured results are presented to validate the proposed antenna structure, which shows that the proposed designed antenna structure has a stable radiation pattern both at the GSM and UWB band ranges.

A review paper concerning wide-band and ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas used for wireless communication purposes in terms of the materials as well as a numerical analysis is presented. These antennas which are taken into account are listed as wide-band microstrip antenna, wide-band monopole antenna over a plate, wide-slot UWB antenna, stacked patch UWB antenna, taper slot (TSA) UWB antenna, metamaterial (MTM) structure UWB antennas, elliptical printed monopole UWB antenna, and flexible wearable UWB antenna. The antennas’ performance is compared based on their size and how they can be applicable for portable communication device applications. This review paper furnishes a proper direction to select varieties of figures in terms of impedance bandwidth, gain, directivity, dimensions, time domain characteristics, and materials affecting these antenna’s characteristics.
