Thin GexTe1-x (x = 0.15-0.8) were studied as a model substance of a composite semiconductor film, in addition being of interest for optical storage material. Two complementary modes of time-resolved TEM were used to trace the phase transitions, induced by an attached Q-switched (50 ns FWHM) and frequency doubled (532 nm) Nd:YAG laser. The laser radiation was focused onto the specimen within the TEM to a 20 μm spot (FWHM). Discrete intermediate states were visualized by short-exposure time doubleframe imaging /1,2/. The full history of a transformation was gained by tracking the electron image intensity with photomultiplier and storage oscilloscopes (space/time resolution 100 nm/3 ns) /3/. In order to avoid radiation damage by the probing electron beam to detector and specimen, the beam is pulsed in this continuous mode of time-resolved TEM,too.Short events ( <2 μs) are followed by illuminating with an extended single electron pulse (fig. 1c)

The molecular sieve VAPO-5 has been synthesized hydrothermally in form of large crystals up to 660 μm in length. They have been used as a model substance for the study of vanadium incorporation into the framework. Our results show that vanadium was incorporated into the framework though in relatively small amounts. The results are in agreement with earlier findings for powder preparations of VAPO-5, except for the oxidation state of the vanadium ions and its stability. These conclusions agree with those arrived at previously for vanadium silicate KVS-5.

Abstract It is shown that triphenylmethyl dyes like crystal violet can be used as model substances for rubber and related olefins. Arguments are given in support of the assumption that agents which react with rubber and related olefins in a polar manner cause a reversible shift in color from blue to yellow with crystal violet, whereas a fading of the blue color of crystal violet (if alkaline or reducing agents are excluded) points to a radical reaction. Since the electronic structures of donor olefins and crystal violet are considered and not the molecular structure, as usually is done in the choice of a model substance, these dyes have been named electronic model substances. Though crystal violet, as an electronic model substance cannot be used for the study of the overall reactions, information can often be obtained concerning the first step in a reaction of rubber with a certain chemical agent by means of a simple test-tube reaction with crystal violet. It was pointed out that the π-electron availability at the non-methylated carbon atom of the double bond in rubber and at the nitrogen atoms in crystal violet is probably of the same order. As an application of crystal violet as an electronic model substance for rubber, a polar reaction between sulfur and rubber is suggested as the first step in vulcanization.

AbstractThis paper presents an eco-innovation method by revised the “Anticipatory Failure Determination (AFD)” method which is the failure analysis tools in TRIZ theory. Using the functional analysis to list the system process and make the functional analysis model. Based on the environmental efficiency factors and functional analysis model, Substance-Field inverse analysis can find a lot of failure modes in the system. In order to assess the priority of risk improvement, the designer can calculate the environmental risk priority number including controlling documents, public image and environmental consequences. Designer can quickly find out the potential failure mode in the complex engineering system with the systematic steps. The TRIZ methods are used for finding eco-innovation idea to solve failure problem. The capability of the whole eco-innovative design process was illustrated by the electrical motorcycle case.

We have measured magnetic susceptibility and 51V NMR of CaV2O4, a model substance for a frustrated S = 1 spin chain with competing first- and second-neighbor anti-ferromagnetic interactions. Both the low-temperature magnetic susceptibility and the NMR Knight shift did not go down to zero as the temperature was lowered, suggesting that a spin gap is not present in CaV2O4. The absence of a spin gap gives us a clear contrast to the case of the nonfrustrated spin chains, which should have the Haldane gap. Recently published theoretical results for S = 1 XY or XXZ spin chain indicate that the gapless chiral phase could appear in a relatively broad region. Experimental results are discussed in terms of these theoretical predictions. A spin-freezing anomaly was observed at 20 K, reflecting the spin-frustrating nature of the system. Aldo-keto reductase 1C3 (AKR1C3) is an important human enzyme that participates in the reduction of steroids and prostaglandins, which leads to proliferative signaling. AKR1C3 is frequently upregulated in various cancers, and this enzyme has been suggested as a therapeutic target for the treatment of these pathological conditions. The fact that the isoquinoline alkaloid stylopine has been identified as a potent AKR1C3 inhibitor has prompted us to screen a library of diverse types of Amaryllidaceae alkaloids, which biogenetically are isoquinoline alkaloids, on a recombinant form of AKR1C3. From the tested compounds, only tazettine showed moderate AKR1C3 inhibitory potency with an IC50 value of 15.8 ± 1.2 μM. Tazettine is a common Amaryllidaceae alkaloid, which could be used as a model substance for the further development of either analogues or related compounds with better inhibition potency.
