Our investigations show that the addition of Ti, polyvalent titanium oxides or TiC powders (0.1-40 mm, amount: 10 wt%) can affect the formation of MgBx (x³4) inclusions and a redistribution of admixed oxygen resulting in the appearance of dispersed inclusions with near MgBO stoichiometry in the MgB2 matrix and thus influencing the critical current density and the critical magnetic fields of the materials. The highest Bc2 and Birr were obtained when powdered polyvalent titanium oxides (synthesized by electroerosion dispersion) or powdered titanium were added, but the critical magnetic fields were somewhat lower in the case of Ti additions. We show that Mg diffuses during the synthesis inside the grains of polyvalent titanium oxide, titanium carbide or titanium, which can affect the redistribution of boron and oxygen in the superconducting matrices and thus influence pinning and the superconducting properties.

The compound magnesium diboride (MgB2) has been well-known since the 1950s; however, its superconducting properties were unknown. Intrinsic characteristics of MgB2 make this material a promising candidate for technological applications, although the low value of the irreversibility field and the decrease in critical current density with the increase in the magnetic field considerably reduce its utility. The present work aimed to study the effect of carbon-based doping on anelastic properties of MgB2 as measured by mechanical spectroscopy. The samples were prepared by using the powder-intube method. The samples were made with 5, 7.5, and 10 wt.% of silicon carbide (SiC). The results reveal complex mechanical loss spectra caused by the interaction between point defects and surface defects in the crystalline lattice of MgB2.

Superconducting thin films of magnesium diboride (MgB2) has been synthesized on various substrates such as gold, silver, copper and silicon using a novel electroless plating technique. The microstructures and the superconducting properties of these films have been characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and temperature dependent magnetometry. X-ray diffraction measurements confirm that the films are crystalline magnesium diboride with some impurity phases. Clear evidence for a superconducting transition in the magnetization measurements was observed.

At present, metal hydrides are considered highly promising materials for phonon-mediated superconductors that exhibit high values of the critical temperature. In the present study, the superconducting properties of the compressed selenium hydride in its simplest form (HSe) are analyzed, toward quantitative characterization of this phase. By using the state-of-art Migdal-Eliashberg formalism, it is shown that the critical temperature in this material is relatively high ([Formula: see text][Formula: see text]K) and surpasses the level of magnesium diboride superconductor, assuming that the Coulomb pseudopotential takes value of [Formula: see text]. Moreover, the employed theoretical model allows us to characterize other pivotal thermodynamic properties such as the superconducting band gap, the free energy, the specific heat, and the critical magnetic field. In what follows, it is shown that the characteristic thermodynamic ratios for the aforementioned parameters differ from the predictions of the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer theory. As a result, we argue that strong-coupling and retardation effects play important role in the discussed superconducting state, which cannot be described within the weak-coupling regime.
