This complete analysis of an almost unknown late work by Offenbach makes it abundantly clear that his stage works contain much more than just pleasing melodies and satirical verses. Using the completely-preserved autograph score of the monumental blockbuster opera “Le Roi Carotte”, as well as spectacular costume designs and original stage design models from the first performance, Alexander Grün examines for the first time the genesis of the work as well as all relevant compositional aspects of an opera score from the so-called "father of operetta". This comprehensive analysis of rhythm, melody, harmony, time and tempo structures, leitmotifs and reminiscences, as well as the practical aspects of the first performance at the Théâtre de la Gaîté in Paris in 1872, is unique in Offenbach research and impressively debunks the usual view of Offenbach as a prolific popular composer who never managed to capitalise on his early successes after the collapse of the Second Empire.

Flax (Linum usitatissimum) is a plant grown in temperate regions either for its fiber or for its seeds, which are rich in the essential fatty acid omega-3. It is also well known as a source of medicinal compounds. The chemical composition of its leaves is currently poorly described. In order to fill this gap, we have conducted a comprehensive analysis of flax leaf metabolome. The exploration of the metabolome allowed the characterization of compounds isolated for the first time in flax leaves. These molecules were isolated by preparative HPLC and then characterized by NMR, LC-MS and standard analysis. This work extended our picture of C-glycosyl-flavonoids and coniferyl alcohol derivatives accumulated in flax. The follow-up of the content of these different metabolites via UPLC-MS revealed significant accumulation differences in spring and winter flax leaves. In particular, two methylated C-glycosylflavonoids (swertisin and swertiajaponin) were the most abundant phenolic compounds in winter flax whereas they were not detected in spring flax. This result suggests that these 2 compounds are involved in cold stress tolerance in flax.

AbstractThis paper affords a complete analysis of the construction of the original Northampton (later Northumberland) House in the Strand (demolished in 1874), which has never been fully investigated. It begins with an examination of the little-known architectural patronage of its builder, Lord Henry Howard, 1st Earl of Northampton from 1603, one of the most interesting figures of the early Stuart era. With reference to the building of the contemporary Salisbury House by Sir Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury, the only other Strand palace to be built in the early seventeenth century, textual and visual evidence are closely investigated. A rediscovered elevational drawing of the original front of Northampton House is also discussed. By associating it with other sources, such as the first inventory of the house (transcribed in the Appendix), the inside and outside of Northampton House as Henry Howard left it in 1614 are re-configured for the first time.

<p>The article presents for the first time a complete analysis of the ethnopoetic features of the story <em>Antonov&rsquo;s apples</em> by I.&nbsp;A.&nbsp;Bunin. The idea of <em>sobornost'</em> (conciliarism) as a world-forming principle in the story correlates with the idea of unity. The conciliar consciousness reflected in Bunin&rsquo;s works is based on the unity of the Orthodox faith, the everyday realities of the peasant and landowner world, and Russian nature. These areas of the Cathedral life contain basic national images-symbols and archetypes that define the features of the story&rsquo;s ethno-poetics and characterize Bunin&rsquo;s &ldquo;cultural unconscious&rdquo;. The Ethnopoetic images&nbsp;&mdash; symbols of the sky and the field determine the spatial characteristics of the chronotope, structured by the idea of a Cathedral synthesis of the soul&rsquo;s being and the natural world, in which the life of a Russian person was so organically included. Bunin depicts his idea of the Russian national world as a conciliar existence organized according to special, Divine principles and laws. The density and saturation of the chronotope of the story is determined by spatial, picturesque, phonic and olfactory images. The image of the unity of the national world is based on Bunin's historiosophical idea of the unity of life and soul of the Russian people, both noblemen and peasants. This idea is implemented in the story at the level of the image system and compositional structure.</p>

Abstract We present a comprehensive analysis of the compact planetary nebula M 2-31 investigating its spectral properties, spatio-kinematical structure and chemical composition using GTC MEGARA integral field spectroscopic observations and NOT ALFOSC medium-resolution spectra and narrow-band images. The GTC MEGARA high-dispersion observations have remarkable tomographic capabilities, producing an unprecedented view of the morphology and kinematics of M 2-31 that discloses a fast spectroscopic bipolar outflow along position angles 50○ and 230○, an extended shell and a toroidal structure or waist surrounding the central star perpendicularly aligned with the fast outflows. These observations also show that the C ii emission is confined in the central region and enclosed by the [N ii] emission. This is the first time that the spatial segregation revealed by a 2D map of the C ii line implies the presence of multiple plasma components. The deep NOT ALFOSC observations allowed us to detect broad WR features from the central star of M 2-31, including previously undetected broad O vi lines that suggest a reclassification as a [WO4]-type star.

This study represents the first comprehensive analysis of the residency patterns of a coastal population of bottlenose dolphin off the coast of Aragua, Venezuela, over a multi-year period. Using photo-identification, the most recent study (2019-2020) identified 56 individuals with the time between encounters from one to 344 days between the first and last sighting. Site Fidelity (SF) and Residence (RES) indices were calculated and Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering (AHC) modeling was performed, with three patterns of residence obtained: resident (25%), semiresident (17.86%) and transient (57.14%). These results were contrasted with remodeled data from a previous study (2006-2007), showing similar patterns: resident (24.44%), semi-resident (28.89%) and transient (46.67%). Importantly, two individuals were found to have been resident over the extended period. A breeding female sighted for the first time in 2004 and again in 2020 (16 years) and the other from 2005 to 2020 (15 years). This region is an important area for marine mammals, known to support a resident reproductive population over many years, as well seabirds, sea turtles, whale sharks and fishermen. We recommend that consideration be given to designating the waters as a Marine Protected Area to safeguard the existing population and provide benefit to the surrounding marine environment.

The article analyses the Church Slavonic vocabulary, which in the Ukrainian language, according to etymological dictionaries, were gone in different ways: 1) directly from the Church Slavonic language or through the literary language of the period of Kievan Rus; 2) from the Church Slavonic language through other languages: Russian, Czech or Slovak; 3) from the Church Slavonic language by the method of tracing; 4) from other languages through Church Slavonic mediation: from Ancient Greek, from Middle Greek, from Modern Greek, from Latin, from Turkic, from Hebrew, from German. The relevance of the article is determined by the need of a comprehensive analysis of Church Slavonic, which is an organic component of the Ukrainian language. The urgency of this issue in modern Ukrainian linguistics is due not only to its insufficient coverage and a certain fragmentation of the results, but also to the fact that in addition to linguistic and historical and cultural aspects, it has a certain rehabilitation orientation. The following scientific methods were used in the study: descriptive, comparative, statistical. The scientific novelty of the work is that for the first time the linguistic and extralinguistic factors of the appearance of Church Slavonic borrowings in the modern Ukrainian language, the main ways of entry of Church Slavonic into the Ukrainian language are systematically described. The results of the work show that discussions on the emergence of Church Slavonic in the Ukrainian language continue among industry experts and linguists.

The chapter explores some of Latouche’s very last projects. One was the aborted musical with composer Coleman Dowell for David Merrick to be based on Eugene O’Neill’s Ah, Wilderness! (The musical eventually materialized as Take Me Along, with a score by Robert Merrill.) He also made a hilarious contribution to Ben Bagley’s Littlest Revue (1956). His very final undertaking, left incomplete at his death in 1956, was The First Time, a musical version of the Adam and Eve story with music by Milton Rosenstock and sets by Frederick Kiesler.

Fuzzy-AHP. Melhoria de Produtos. Satisfação dos Clientes. AbstractThe identification of the most relevant attributes for consumers requires the definition of a set of criteria that represent important aspects to satisfy the needs of these clients. Therefore, measuring the relative importance of attributes is an essential activity to provide products that will satisfy consumers in a given market. To this aim, techniques as Fuzzy-AHP and conjoint analysis can be applied, each of which having benefits and limitations that can be compared to give a more complete analysis to a certain product. The objective of this paper is to compare how conjoint analysis and Fuzzy-AHP perform in measuring product attributes, which may assist the product development and improvement processes. This study was conducted by applying both techniques to headphone consumers, through market research. Results indicate significant difference between both approaches, which may be more related to factors such as the attributes included in the analysis. A major conclusion is that conjoint analysis is more suited for detailed analyses whereas Fuzzy-AHP provides results more quickly. In addition, both techniques can be used together to enable a more comprehensive analysis of product attributes. Keywords: Conjoint Analysis. Fuzzy AHP. Product Improvement. Customer Satisfaction.

Abstract The aim of this paper is to provide new insights for the analysis of bias in polar questions by showing that the distinction proposed by Sudo (2013) between evidential and epistemic biases leads to an integrated picture of the Hungarian system of polar interrogatives. For the first time, a comprehensive analysis of this system is given here and it is shown how the contributions of certain formal features, such as the interrogative and the negative particles, can be captured independently. This perspective helps to explain restrictions on the occurrences of the different forms of polar interrogatives in Hungarian with respect to a large number of question uses. The paper derives the biases associated with the individual constituents from different sources and makes some proposals on how their impact could be incorporated into a formal model of dialogue.
