AbstractThe Implied Private Company Pricing Line (IPCPL) model is intended to calculate a reliable present value discount rate for a 100 % control interest in a private/closely-held operating company under the Fair Market Value Standard. But, would its application be more reliable than the Adjusted Capital Asset Pricing Model (ACAPM) or Build-Up Method (BUM)? This article evaluates two core aspects of the model’s practical application that have received little attention in the literature: (1) Does it eliminate a significant portion of subjective adjustments? The private company market’s adjustment for key marketability differences is said to be built into the private company transaction prices, eliminating the need for an appraiser to subjectively quantify and apply those adjustments; and (2) Being “actual market clearing prices”, do the private company transaction prices reflect Fair Market Value?

The leading objective of this experimental study is to perform a Short-term Creep Testing on samples (coupon test) obtained from a private company in order to learn the durability of the Unsaturated Polyester Resin (UPR) material with and without Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) on the applied cross-arm application according to ASTM E139. Through the method of flexural test jig (three point bending test) along with the usage of the furnace chamber HK160, samples then examined with initial temperature of 30°C until it breaks down. Result has been evaluated using conventional method for predicting the life-long purpose of the samples for future reference and analysis. The configurations or the patterns of the failure through (conventional) method recorded for short term test inside HK160 Chamber furnace fails at temperature of 120°C for samples without CaCO3 the samples fails and crack. Therefore, the samples with due to the material of UPE with FRP in a bar shape are said to have Ultimate Temperature for Failure of 120°C. Further details are crucial for advance analysis in the future research purposes.

AbstractThe Berlin Twin Registry began as a short-term local project and developed into a resource that now serves partners throughout Germany and Europe. A twin registry as a private company is a different approach with pros and cons. Compared to academic institutions, there are greater flexibilities in collaborations, as well as acquisition and use of research funds. Recruitment is based on invitation in the context of the mass media coverage of scientific results. Phenotyping in normal twin subjects is concentrated on intermediate phenotypes that can bear on common diseases. These phenotypes include proteomic approaches and gene expression. Some results are briefly described to give an impression of the range of research topics and related opportunities for retrospective and prospective collaborative research.

Purpose Private firms in China are like the third child in a family, constantly struggling to establish their position in an environment favoring their state-owned and collective siblings. The purpose of this paper is to discover some long-term-oriented legitimacy building strategies for private firms in China. Design/methodology/approach This paper examines the effect of both internal and external institutional factors on long-term legitimacy for private enterprises. The authors integrate stakeholder perspective and institutional theory to provide a framework of building sustainable legitimacy. Findings The authors’ framework delineates that a private company can build sustainable legitimacy through catering long-term legitimacy conferring to constituents such as customers, social responsibility and patriotism in the external institutional environment. Practical implications The authors’ framework further indicates how private firms could leverage internal institutional environment through developing appropriate mission, culture, leadership and human resources practices in conformity to the demands of constituents for gaining long-term legitimacy. Originality/value This paper is the first to address the short-term nature of legitimacy building strategies proposed in the past literature. In addition, it is also the first attempt to explore the multiplicity in legitimacy in China in search of long-term legitimacy building approaches.

Recent corporate and academic scandals have led to decreasing levels of trust and confidence in many organizations. Whether the organization is a college or university, a government agency, a private company or a public corporation, the establishment and maintenance of trust is essential to both short-term success and long-term efficacy. This article deals with how managers and leaders can work to establish trust in their organizations via such strategies as fostering behavioural consistency, behavioural integrity, sharing of control, effective communication and demonstration of concern for employees. Also included are strategies of maintaining and enhancing trust, how the level of trust in an organization affects the individual as well as the entire enterprise, and the consequences of losing organizational trust.

Gridded datasets provide spatially and temporally consistent runoff estimates that serve as reliable sources for assessing water resources from regional to global scales. This study presents LSTM-REG, a regional gridded runoff dataset for northwest Russia based on Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks. LSTM-REG covers the period from 1980 to 2016 at a 0.5° spatial and daily temporal resolution. LSTM-REG has been extensively validated and benchmarked against GR4J-REG, a gridded runoff dataset based on a parsimonious regionalization scheme and the GR4J hydrological model. While both datasets provide runoff estimates with reliable prediction efficiency, LSTM-REG outperforms GR4J-REG for most basins in the independent evaluation set. Thus, the results demonstrate a higher generalization capacity of LSTM-REG than GR4J-REG, which can be attributed to the higher efficiency of the proposed LSTM-based regionalization scheme. The developed datasets are freely available in open repositories to foster further regional hydrology research in northwest Russia.

AbstractRapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) of words or pictured scenes provides evidence for a large-capacity conceptual short-term memory (CSTM) that momentarily provides rich associated material from long-term memory, permitting rapid chunking (Potter 1993; 2009; 2012). In perception of scenes as well as language comprehension, we make use of knowledge that briefly exceeds the supposed limits of working memory.

Short term experimental and clinical preservation of kidneys is presently best accomplished by hypothermic continuous pulsatile perfusion with cryoprecipitated and millipore filtered plasma. This study was undertaken to observe ultrastructural changes occurring during 24-hour preservation using the above mentioned method.A kidney was removed through a midline incision from healthy mongrel dogs under pentobarbital anesthesia. The kidneys were flushed immediately after removal with chilled electrolyte solution and placed on a LI-400 preservation system and perfused at 8-10°C. Serial kidney biopsies were obtained at 0-½-1-2-4-8-16 and 24 hours of preservation. All biopsies were prepared for electron microscopy. At the end of the preservation period the kidneys were autografted.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are a ubiquitous class of environmental pollutants with toxic and hepatocellular effects, including accumulation of fat, proliferated smooth endoplasmic recticulum (SER), and concentric membrane arrays (CMAs) (1-3). The CMAs appear to be a membrane storage and degeneration organelle composed of a large number of concentric membrane layers usually surrounding one or more lipid droplets often with internalized membrane fragments (3). The present study documents liver alteration after a short term single dose exposure to PCBs with high chlorine content, and correlates them with reported animal weights and central nervous system (CNS) measures. In the brain PCB congeners were concentrated in particular regions (4) while catecholamine concentrations were decreased (4-6). Urinary levels of homovanillic acid a dopamine metabolite were evaluated (7).Wistar rats were gavaged with corn oil (6 controls), or with a 1:1 mixture of Aroclor 1254 and 1260 in corn oil at 500 or 1000 mg total PCB/kg (6 at each level).
