This article analyzes the relationship between basic skills and textbooks in the subject Christianity, religions, worldviews and ethics. Two research questions are discussed and answered: How can the basic skills be understood within the subject? And how do selected textbooks facilitate for working with the basic skills? The first question seeks to define and operationalize the basic skills within the context of the subject. This is done on the basis of official documents and current research, but also on an understanding of the subject which emphasizes both knowledge and formation. The answer to the first research question is used as an analytical resource for the discussion of the next question. The material being analyzed is three textbooks. With respect to knowledge, the article shows that textbooks manage to integrate the basic skills. However, the books could have paid more attention to some of the aspects of the skills which are specific for the subject. When it comes to aspects of formation and education the basic skills are mainly resources for ethical and philosophical topics, primarily to develop tolerance and respect within the pupils.Nøkkelord: lærebøker, religiøs utdanning i grunnskolen og videregående skole, grunnleggende ferdigheter, kunnskap, formasjon

The meta-analysis, that included 75 studies, examined the relationship between illegal drug consumption, on the one hand, and student academic and behavioral outcomes, on the other, for the middle school to college grade levels. The meta-analysis first (research question #1) addressed whether there is a statistically significant relationship between illegal drug consumption and student academic and behavioral outcomes. A second question assessed whether there was a statistically significant relationship between the consumption of specific kinds of illegal drugs and student academic and behavioral outcomes (research question #2). The third analysis distinguished between the effects for educational- and behavioral-outcomes to see whether the consumption of illegal drugs was associated with one more than the other (research question #3). Fourth, there were analyses to determine whether the effects that emerged under the first two research questions differed by the age of the student (research question #4). The fifth analysis (research question #5) assessed whether the effects that emerged under the first two research questions differed by the race of the student. The results indicated widespread statistically significant effects for all the drugs under study. The extent of the effects were considerably greater for college students than they were for middle school students.

This study investigated the relationship between students’ achievement in practical and essaytests on biology. Two research questions were formulated- (i) what is the difference in the mean score of students in practical and essay tests in mock biology examinations? (ii) what is the measure of relationship (correlation coefficient) of students’ achievement in practical and essay aspects of biology tests? The research was conducted among public secondary schools in Nsukka Education Zone of Enugu State with a sampled population of 560 biology students (321 males and 239 females) from randomly sampled schools from the three local government areas in the zone. The Correlation survey research design was adopted for this study and the instrument of data collection were the results of the 2018 students’ mock practical and theoretical tests on biology from the sampled schools. The data collected were analysed using Descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) for research question 1, while the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient analysis was used for research question 2. The findings of the study revealed that a weak positive association existed between the students’ achievementin practical and essay biology tests. So, the achievement in one aspect does not in any way influence the achievement in the other. The study thus recommends that: (1) teachers should have good mastery and evaluation techniques of all components of biology so that students would approach them with equal ability; (2) parents should encourage the students to develop interest and ability in the different components of biology; and (3) government should provide and equip biology laboratories to ensure students’ utilization of same.

Employees and their knowledge are one of the most important resources of any enterprise. Material reward system often does not bring the assumed benefits. In public administration, it is trying to develop effective methods of rewarding employees that would not involve the entity’s financial resources and at the same time improve work efficiency. In this situation, it may be appropriate to introduce solutions used in agile organizations. The non-material reward system in the agile model allows for creating agility features in employees. The article includes an analysis of domestic and foreign literature on the subject and the author’s own research, carried out in two public administration units. In the context of the research gap, the author tried to answer the following research question: Can public administration units, like agile organizations, introduce actions aimed at creating agility characteristics in employees and thus achieve better results? The main goal of the study was to demonstrate the relationship between the introduction of intangible reward systems and the creation of agility in public administration employees. For the purposes of the study, the author formulated a research hypothesis assuming that non-material methods of reward contribute to creating agility features in employees.

This research has three research questions. The first research question is “What techniques the teacher use  in improving students pronouncing words loudly at the first year of MAN Batam?” the second is “Which technique frequently used by the teacher in improving students pronouncing words loudly at the first year of MAN Batam ?” and third is what might made the teacher prefer to the technique? Moreover, the subject of the study are two English teachers. Meanwhile, the object of the study is the teachers’ techniques in improving students pronouncing words loudly at the first year of MAN Batam . In this research, the researcher took two teachers as the respondent. The techniques of collecting data are observation and interview. Observation is used to know the teacher technique in teaching pronounciation. And interview is used to know the effectiveness of technique in teaching pronounciation.  The researcher uses observations as main data collection and the interview is as to support the data needed. In addition to the data analysis, the researcher uses descriptive quantitative which applies statistical data. To know the percentage, the researcher used formula as follow: P             As for the result of this research, the researcher takes some conclusions. They are: English teacher uses drilling technique how to pronounce the word, English teacher uses repetition technique to practice and improve students pronouncing, English teacher uses backward building up technique to improve students pronouncing, and End the repetition technique is the most frequently used by the teacher.   Based on the analysis of data, the researcher concludes that The Teachers’ Techniques in Improving Students Pronouncing Words Loudly at the first year of MAN Batam is categorized into “less”.

PurposeDigitalization is becoming the subject of considerable interest in the literature. This is in view of its relevance in addressing social problems and contributing to the development of communities and societies. In the agri-food-industry, digitalization is also expected to contribute significantly to solve several challenges the sector is facing at this moment, such as the increasing food demand and resource use. However, the effects of advanced technologies are less a function of the technologies themselves than of how they are used by people. The study analyses the dominant challenges faced by firms in the agri-food industry in the usage and adoption of digital technology. Also, they show how these challenges impact on the sustainable development of digital technology for firms in the industry and provide avenues for future research.Design/methodology/approachThe authors propose a structured literature review aiming to investigate the following research question: what are the main challenges faced by firms within the agri-food industry in the adoption of smart technologies?FindingsResults illustrate the dominant challenges faced by firms in the agri-food industry in the usage and adoption of digital technology. Also, they show how these challenges impact on the sustainable development of digital technology for firms in the industry and provide avenues for future research.Originality/valueSo far, in the context of digitalization in the agri-food industry, various researchers have analysed different kinds of challenges to the adoption of smart technologies. This work reviews these contributions to create a clear reference framework of the challenges faced by agri-food firms while providing future avenues of research and implications at a policymaking, economic-managerial and socio-environmental level.

There are three major research questions within the scope of the subject under study. The first concerns the electoral diplomas that regulated the legislative elections of 1895 and 1906 (the decrees of 28th March 1895 and 4th August 1901 are covered here). The second is related to the way in which the monarchic governments “manufactured” electoral victories, emphasizing the caciquismo as an instrument of manipulation of the vote. The third major research question is related to the analysis of the journalistic coverage given by the Porto newspapers O Comércio do Porto and A Voz Pública (sources selected for the writing of this article) to the legislative elections of 1895 and 1906 in the city of Porto, elections that constitute the object of study of this article. The aforementioned electoral acts were selected for this investigation as, on the one hand, there was not an obvious explanation for the resultsrecorded in Porto and, on the other hand, it would be interesting to understand how an electoral act took place at the end of the XIX century and at the beginning of the XX century. For this reason, it became interesting to study the context of its realization.

Comedy is a common genre but quite complex to analyze linguistically. It consists of enormous discourse considered humorous or amusing by causing laughter in any entertainment medium. Several studies have investigated the relationship between comedy and cooperative principles in the analysis of everyday interaction. However, little attention has been paid to the role of cooperative principles and presupposition as comic generators in areas such as mass or social media, particularly on YouTube.  This study concentrates on the analysis of extracts from a Ghanaian comedy on YouTube, Nurse Awuni, which give rise to humor by identifying the violation of Grice`s (1975) cooperative principles and its maxims employed by the characters. It attempts to answer the following research questions. First, how often are Grice`s (1975) cooperative principles and its maxims employed, flouted or violated in the Nurse Awuni`s comedy? And What is the role of conversational implicature and presupposition as comic generators in the Nurse Awuni`s comedy? Quantitative analysis with a collection of empirical data has been followed to analyze the violation and keeping of the cooperative principles, maxims and presupposition, and conversational implicature of the Nurse Awuni`s comedy from a strictly linguistic and pragmatic perspective. From the results, it is evident that interlocutors sometimes deliberately flout the conversational maxims so as to create comedy in different conversational effects such as humor, sarcasm, irony, insults etc. Again, a comedian may constantly digress from the subject and content of conversation to make him, or her appear naive and create an awkward situation by saying something narrow-minded.  Moreover, the research investigated presupposition as a crucial comedy generator. Finally, the results indicate that the use of conversational implicature and its maxims is much more abundant than the use of presupposition.

Det er òg slik at fagkonstruksjonane i varierande grad er tilpassa dei grunnleggjande ferdigheitene.Nøkkelord: læreplanar, norskfaget, musikkfaget, grunnleggjande ferdigheiter, literacy,  fagspesifikke ferdigheiterAbstractThis article discusses the relationship between subjects and basic skills. Through an analysis of The Knowledge Promotion’s curricula for Norwegian language arts and music, I show how the five basic skills identified in the Knowledge Promotion are integrated into the subjects in different ways. Norwegian is designed as a literacy subject, where the subject content to some extent appears to be subordinated to the development of basic skills. In music, the basic skills are better integrated into the subject, and the subject stands out more clearly against the background. One may thus reasonably claim that the basic skills are not only included in the subjects on the subject’s terms, which is the aim of the framework. The subjects are to varying degrees adapted to the basic skills. Keywords: curriculum, basic skills, literacy, subject-spesific literacy, language arts, music

Background Previous studies have explored the relationship between career and technical education (CTE) on numerous secondary and college outcomes. However, a key oversight in the literature is the examination of the CTE coursetaking pipeline as it makes a direct connection between high school and college. Research Questions We asked the following research questions to address the gap in CTE literature around secondary to postsecondary pipelines: (1) Does taking CTE courses in high school predict taking CTE courses in college? (2) Does this relationship differ between students who attend 2- and 4-year colleges? (3) Does the relationship differ by different areas of CTE? Research Design To respond to these questions, we used the Education Longitudinal Study of 2002 (ELS:2002), a nationally representative dataset. We employed basic logistic regression, school fixed effects, and instrumental variable estimations to reduce biases in our estimations in the relationship between high school and college CTE coursetaking. Results We found that CTE coursetaking in high school linked to overall CTE coursetaking across all years of college. When examining 2- and 4-year college coursetaking independently, only the relationship between high school and 4-year college CTE coursetaking was significant. We also found that there existed differential linking based on type of institution in which the courses were completed and area of CTE—specifically, applied STEM, business, trade and industry, and health. Conclusions A first implication from these findings is that CTE in high school, which is itself funded through the current iteration of the Perkins legislation, appears to be having a noticeable link to CTE participation in college. From the second research question, there could very well be a strong connection between high school CTE and 2-year enrollment that is not reflected in first year CTE coursetaking at the 2-year level. Finally, the implications from the third research question speak to the need to focus on CTE as a group of individual categories as opposed to a single overarching group.

Introduction Though the relationship between social capital and health has been widely studied, the evidence of this relationship in cardiovascular disease is limited, with varied and inconsistent measures. This scoping review seeks to address this gap by answering the following questions: (1) How has social capital been characterized and measured in the literature related to cardiovascular disease? and (2) What gaps exist in the evaluation of the relationship between social capital and cardiovascular disease? Materials and methods A scoping review will be used to answer the research questions. The scoping review will apply established methods described by Arksey and O’Malley, Levac and colleagues, and the Joanne Briggs Institute: (1) identifying the research question(s); (2) identifying relevant studies; (3) selecting the studies; (4) charting the data; and (5) collating, summarizing, and reporting the results. Results Our findings will be reported in accordance with the guidance provided in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocols (PRISMA-P) statement. Discussion The synthesis of this evidence base is intended to provide a framework for how social capital has been defined and measured in the cardiovascular literature, with additional guidance for future research and evaluation. The findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publication and presentations at relevant seminars.
