This article focuses on art museums as multi-layered media- and eventmakers. By discussing the National Gallery of Denmark’s Mysteries from the Museum podcast series and the event SMK Fridays, Louisiana’s digital platform Louisiana Channel and the Glyptotek’s Slow arrangements, we scrutinise these museums’ onsite and offsite outreach techniques and strategies. These are further discussed regarding the current museum zeitgeist, and how this relates to dominant cultural policy paradigms in Denmark. The article is based on interviews with museum professionals, observations of onsite events and document analysis; they indicate that museums constantly renew their outreach techniques and strategies, adding layers to their museum communication. While museums succeed in creating quality digital content and arranging events attracting attention and audiences, these productions do not challenge the power dynamics between museums and their users described in current literature on the museum zeitgeist, as in dominant cultural policy strategies in a Danish context.

This paper addresses the subject of electromagnetic wave scattering in layered media, thus covering the recent progress achieved with different approaches. Existing theories and models are analyzed, classified, and summarized on the basis of their characteristics. Emphasis is placed on both theoretical and practical application. Finally, patterns and trends in the current literature are identified and critically discussed.

This thesis looks at the current state of digital reproductions for contemporary photographic artworks—how they are made, the purposes they serve, and how they are disseminated by cultural institutions. Using four selected photographic installation artworks by Canadian artist Michael Snow, this research examines how museums pursue reproductions of artworks that are installative by design and possess elements that are not easily reproducible like sound or the use of time. The reproduction process and terminology used at the Art Gallery of Ontario and the National Gallery of Canada (two institutions with significant collections of Snow’s artworks) are both examined, as well as how digital reproduction is currently discussed and theorized by museum professionals and digital specialists. Reproductions are used for outreach, research, advertising, and conservation, but between texts and institutions alike there lacks consistent terminologies and purposes for reproductions due to the dearth of research into this type of imagery.

This study focuses on the role of cultural policy in the rise of multiculturalism with a case study of the Indonesian Art Exhibition, Pameran Seni Rupa Nusantara (PSRN) 2000s, which was initiated by a cultural institution, the National Gallery of Indonesia (GNI). PSRN exhibition is one of the important programs of GNI because it gives space to the artists of the archipelago - not just Java and Bali - to present works of modern-contemporary art rooted in local wisdom. As a nation that has the characteristics of pluralism, the spirit of multiculturalism in art has become very significant, especially in the middle of the Disruption era which is "full of uncertainty". This article uses qualitative research with a historical method approach: heuristics, verification, interpretation and historiography, namely the process of writing history based on proven facts. Material Culture analysis approach, shows how history may be read and interpreted through objects/ artefacts/findings used by artists in their works. The results show that the Cultural Policy implemented by GNI is a combination of cultural policies that are authoritarian with the cultural policies of the Command, with an emphasis on the strength of the Potential Localization owned by the Indonesian people.

The PSRN exhibition is one of the GNI’s most important programs because it gives space to the artists of the archipelago - not just Java and Bali - to present works of modern-contemporary art rooted in local wisdom. As a nation that has the characteristics of pluralism, the spirit of multiculturalism in art has become very significant, especially in the middle of the Disruption era which is ”full of uncertainty”. Earlier studies have suggested that the aesthetic concept of Indonesia was based on Indonesian cultural diversity, but these studies do not specifically address GNI policies. This article uses qualitative research with a historical method approach together with a material culture analysis approach. The results of the study show that GNI as the State Cultural Institute plays an important role in maintaining multiculturalism through exhibition events involving roles and figures. Description of online digital content is currently extremely necessary to facilitate a diverse amount of resource sharing over the internet. Many times, content is shared and reused within a virtual community. Virtual communities tend to have their own specific needs of resources, and tend to use a specific vocabulary to describe content. Members of virtual communities also tend to have specific motivations for participating and sharing information and knowledge with other members. In this chapter, the authors discuss the benefits of community members generating content description by analyzing the current literature on the matter. Then, the authors present two studies they have held where they assess the metadata generated by users of an IPTV system and by members of two different virtual communities.

Focusing on dohori’s place in state constructions of nationalism, this chapter traces the genealogies of musical tropes in dohori and the umbrella genre of lok gīt, or folk song, through a history of musical nationalism and associated musical and language ideologies. It looks at song genres chosen to represent the nation after the founding of Radio Nepal in 1951, and tells how men in charge of the folk song department at the radio shaped Nepali national folk music. It also tells the story of national dohori competitions and how they, along with the radio and national cultural policy, helped consolidate dohori into its current generic parameters. It examines the power dynamics of region, caste, and ethnicity, showing how the attempt to unite Nepal’s musical diversity into an all-inclusive national genre ended in the overrepresentation of particular regional styles, and, most important, how the music chosen became symbolic of cultural intimacy.

‘DIY’ publications called zines have long been a way for marginalized communities to record their stories, spread information and organize. However, this article presents zines as a potential research tool for action researchers who are working within organisational contexts. The authors, both museum professionals, action researchers and zinesters, use examples from their research within art museums to examine the value of zines as a methodology. Though the research projects take place within art organisations, using the four themes of aesthetics, communities of practice, counter-narratives and plurality it considers how zines could be used more broadly as a research tool in other knowledge-based settings. The authors provide a recommendation for practitioners to explore zining to engender dialogic cultures in their organisations as well as their potential in shaping ‘major’ and ‘minor’ organisational change.

Since the birth of the Icelandic museum in the nineteenth century they have played a vital role in the local heritage sector. Starting as expressions of national pride during the independence movement from Denmark, the three central museums, the National Museum of Iceland, The National Gallery of Iceland and the Icelandic Museum of Natural History, have played a vital role in the professional work of museums. They promote collaboration and institutional development, most recently by enabling the establishment of Museology at the University of Iceland. Tracing the history of the museum field, this article seeks to demonstrate the vital role of museums within museology at the University of Iceland. With continued collaboration, museum professionals and the museum studies program can promote positive change in the Icelandic heritage sector.
