Regenerated plants and callus tissue were obtained by embryo culture and micropropagation of explants from shoots and leaves of <em>Eustoma grandiflorum</em> Shinn. (<em>Gentianaceae</em>), a medicinal plant. This species, which does not naturally occur in this country, but is found in the southwestern regions of North America, can be propagated in vitro in a relatively short time. Regenerated plants were obtained in amounts enabling extensive phytochemical analyses to be conducted.

Leucojum aestivum is a native, protected ornamental and medicinal plant in Hungary and in Ukraine too. The aim of our work was to establish in vitro cultures of this bulbous plant. Prior to surface sterilisation the old leaves and roots were dissected from the bulbs and they were stored in a refrigerator (2-3°C) for different periods (1 week for the first starting experiment and 5 weeks for the second one). After sterilisation, bulbs, bulb scales and leaves of the bulbs were placed on Murashige and Skoog's (1962) medium with 1 mg/1 benzyl-adenine (BA) and 0,1 mg/1 naphthalene acetic acid (NAA). At the first starting experiment 81,3%, and at the second one 92,3% of the explants turned to be sterile. Bulblets and roots were developed on the explants in the case of using bulb plates together with bulb scales and leaves as inoculua. The best result was achieved after 5 weeks chilling and it was possible to gain little bulbs from the bulb leaves too.

An efficient protocol was established for in vitro clonal propagation of Hemidesmus indicus (Anantamul) belongs to the family Asclepiadaceae, a widely used medicinal plant through callus culture in using nodal segment. Yellowish nodular callus was observed from nodal segments on MS basal medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/L BAP + 0.2 mg/L NAA within four weeks of culture. Large number of shoots (11.4±0.2) and roots (8.2±0.4) were obtained when the callus was sub cultured on MS medium with 0.2 mg/L BAP. The regenerated plantlets were acclimatized by transferring them to soil. The survival rate of plantlets was found to be 90%. Regenerated plants were morphologically comparable having normal leaf shape and growth.

The current demand for in vitro cultures of grape rootstocks, not only for mass production of plants, but also for genetic engineering is evident. The study on micropropagation of grape rootstock genotypes namely Kober 5BB, Kober 125AA and Teleki 5C was performed. The aim of the study was to develop an optimized protocol to obtain large quantity of plant material. Protocol is based on regeneration via organogenesis, considering that grape embryogenic calluses are laborious to establish and the genotype of the regenerated plants can be altered. Using of Driver and Kuniyuki Walnut media for the establishing of proliferating cultures gave better results than Murashige Skoog media in case of all used rootstocks. Subsequent cultivation on modified Murashige Skoog media with 1-naphtalene acetic acid and increased concentration of cytokynin was characterized by multiplication of cultures and formation of clusters with high multiplication capability. The clusters obtained from rootstock genotypes were suitable for mass propagation as well as for genetic transformation due to their high ability of regeneration.
