Basic research has shown that some differences between educational aspects of Spanish and American culture, such as perceptions about on roles, attitudes, communication, teaching methods and even expectations, can manifest into actual academic difficulties for American Language Assistants in Spanish bilingual schools. This paper will focus on describing the elements that, when analyzed, outline the role of Instituto Franklin-UAH as an intercultural and academic mediator between two cultures and education systems (Spain and US) and the context that justifies the different measures taken to attend to the particular needs or circumstances of the agents involved (students, teachers and academic advisors). Two perspectives will be included: a) a historical one, related to Instituto Franklin-UAH’s background and context related to bilingual teaching; b) an analytical one, focusing, on the one hand, on the perception of the agents involved and, on the other hand, on the actions that have turned Instituto Franklin-UAH into an actual mediator between its students and the schools where they act as Language Assistants. Ultimately, the paper underlines the difference in terms of the perception of the same aspects by the groups involved and the need for measures to improve the communication process between American LAs and Spanish lead teachers in bilingual schools.

Problemification: Some academics joined the profession from private sector late in their career. They are sometimes referred to fondly as practical academics or ‘pracademics’ because they still work in private sector and also act as a visiting professor in academia. I sit on eight boards and chair nearly half of them, and serve on audit committees and HR Remuneration committees. I am an example of a ‘pracademic’, and my induction into academia was one sentence – publish or perish. In the private sector, induction can take up to a week. I had one minute.Implications: The implication is that I had to find out what a peer-reviewed journal was and trip into the fact that some peer-reviewed journals are scams and others A rated. Telling the difference in my initial years took its toll. I continually had to ask colleagues – is this journal real? Eventually I realised the DHET list was a good starting point and I started submitting articles. I got more rejections than acceptances at first, with very little explanation. So I learnt nothing and did not know what to do to improve. I had to waste another thousand reviewer hours of time to learn what the requirement was.Research writing is guided by a personal philosophy, and it is about what types of research issues one is inclined towards. For instance, some people are naturally inclined towards basic research and others towards applied research. Others are more oriented towards theory building and testing types for the purpose of creating knowledge for the sake of knowledge. Some others are pragmatic types or realist types and believe real-world problems do not come neatly packaged and are somewhat untidily in presentation calling for discretion or judgement on what to prioritise for research and how to carry out the research. Some are scientist practitioners (evidence informed researchers) and others are practitioner-scientist (practice-led science).Perhaps this kind of orientation to research is what early career researchers need initially; then, they can worry about reproducibility of research findings down the line after grounding themselves into the research space they perceive to belong to and where they feel invested.Purpose: The purpose of this opinion article is to share my journey and sow some doubt in reply to the opinion piece circulated by Efendic and Van Zyl. Whilst I do agree with everything that is said in their article, I believe that there is additional information that needs to be considered. Context is important. Not all academics that submit articles have been in academia for many years. We need to do more to support budding authors.Recommendations: We need to be much more helpful to budding authors than just publishing a page or two called author submission guidelines. These are mostly cosmetic style guides. If we want a higher quality submission and plenty of them – then I believe we need to educate our budding authors of the requirements. Perhaps we need a detailed guide, similar in content and depth as the article of Efendic and Van Zyl (2019). We could consider a podcast setting out the technical guidelines and statistical requirements. Running courses on article publishing by the reviewers is important because that is from the horse’s mouth. Trust me; it is not just a case of sticking to the style guide. You need to really understand some of the under currents of article publishing, for example, quoting as many authors from that particular journal’s list of articles as possible.

The aims of this study to find out the quality of E-learning based on learning media using Moodle LMS on text of observation. This type of research is development research in the field of education known as Research and Development (R&D). Development research (development research) is research that is used to produce certain products and test the effectiveness of these products (Tegeh and I.M, 2013). The result of this study show that The quality of e-learning based learning media using LMS Moodle which was developed as a learning media on the observation report text material is stated to be a useful and effective contribution in improving the quality of learning outcomes of 10th grade TJA1 Vocational School Telkom Shandy Putra Medan. This is because there is a significant difference in the learning outcomes of the average value of students before using e-learning based learning media (pre-test) ie 57.0 or only about 52% are able to exceed KKM and after using e-based learning media learning using LMS Moodle (post-test) the average value of students increased to 77.0% or can be interpreted as 100% of students able to exceed the KKM. Based on these data the difference is increased by 20% or can be interpreted student learning outcomes increased by 58%.

Wave particle duality is a cornerstone of quantum chemistry and quantum mechanics (QM). But there are experiments it cannot explain, such as a neutron interferometer experiment. If QM uses Ψ as its wavefunction, several experiments suggest that nature uses -Ψ instead. The difference between -Ψ and +Ψ is that they describe entirely different pictures of how nature is organized. For example, with -Ψ quantum particles follow waves backwards, which is incompatible with wave-particle-duality, obviously. We call the -Ψ proposal the Theory of Elementary Waves (TEW). It unlocks opportunities for young scientists with no budget to conduct the basic research for a new, unexplored science. This is a dream come true for young scientists: the discovery of uncharted territory. We show how TEW explains the double slit, Pfleegor Mandel and Davisson Germer experiments, Feynman diagrams and the Bell test experiments. We provide innovative research designs for which -Ψ and +Ψ would predict divergent outcomes. What makes QM so accurate is its probability predictions. But Born’s law would yield the same probabilities if it were changed from P = |+Ψ |2 to P = |-Ψ |2. The current research aims to identify the thinking based on the wisdom of graduatestudents in the college of Education/AL Mustansiriy University,as well as the knowledge of the difference in thinking based on the wisdom of these students depending on the gender variable(Males – Females). The research adopted the thinking based on the wisdom scale of (Brown & Green, 2006) Based om Brown,s mutidimentional model of wisdom, and the translation of Ayud and his condification into the Arabyan environment. The research obtained this scale from the study of (AL Dahim, 2016). This scale is a self – report questionnaire consisting of (64) items measuring eight dimensions.The dimensions are: Self – Knowledge, Emotional Management, Altruism, Inspirational Engagement, Judgment, Life Knowledge, Life Skills, Willingness to Learn. The respondent determines his response to the scale by using the likert method by choosing one of the following five atternatives: I agree very strongly, Iagree to alarge extent, Iagree moderately, Iagree to a small extent, Iagree very little and takes the correction grades (1,2,3,4,5). After checking the standard properties of the scale of the validity an dstability. The scale was applied to the basic research sample of(60) male and female graduate studentin the College  of Education. The data obtained feom the sample  were processed statistically, the following results were obtained: The sample of graduate students dose not have a thinking based on wisdom (to toal grade). But they have some components of the thinking based on wisdom (Self- Knowledge, Management of Emotions, Knowledge of Life, and Willingness to Learn). While they have components (Altruism, Inspirational Engagemen, Judgment, and Life Skills). There is no statistically significant difference in the thinking based on wisdom (total score) depending on the gender variable. There is statistically significant difference in the components of the thinking based on wisdom (Emotional Management, Altruism, Judgment, Life Knowledge) depending on the gender variable. The difference was statistically significant for males, while the difference significant for females in the component (Willingness to Learn). There was no statistically significant difference according to the gender variable in the components (Self – Knowledge, Inspirational Engagement, and Life Skills).

Abstract In the era of Industry 4.0, coal companies began to reach for new innovative technologies that increase work safety and their possible use affects the economic improvement of companies. One of them is to equip a powered roof support section with an electrohydraulic control system with a monitoring system that tracks operating parameters. The development of a monitoring system for a powered roof support is a key investment in new longwall complexes. It allows rapid diagnostics of status of the support. Currently used system designed to control the powered roof support are based on blocks of manually controlled distributors. The pilot control is currently the leading control that properly functions in all conditions, allowing to adapt to the requirements resulting from the construction of the section. A number of tests and analyses must be conducted prior to introducing the new control based on an innovative approach into operation. The basic research has focused on identifying the user interface that will potentially be the solution for the entire system. The user has defined how the driver should look like and how it will be operated and maintained. The results of the first series of tests on the elements of an innovative electronic control system of the powered roof support enabled to develop a prototype version. The assumptions for the system were verified during the conducted development studies. The article presents preliminary results of development research for devices included in the innovative control system of the powered roof support.

AbstractStudy ObjectivesOnly standardized objective assessments reliably capture the large variability of sleep behavior in infancy, which is the most pronounced throughout the human lifespan. This is important for clinical practice as well as basic research. Actimetry is a cost-efficient method to objectively estimate infant sleep/wake behavior from limb movements. Nevertheless, the standardization of actimetry-based sleep/wake measures is limited by two factors: the use of different computational approaches and the bias towards measuring only nighttime sleep—neglecting ~20 % of sleep infants obtain during daytime. Thus, we evaluate the comparability of two commonly used actimetry algorithms in infants and propose adjustments to increase comparability.MethodsWe used actimetry in 50 infants for 10 continuous days at ages 3, 6, and 12 months in a longitudinal approach. We analyzed the infants’ sleep/wake behaviors by applying two algorithms: Sadeh and Oakley/Respironics. We compared minute-by-minute agreement and Kappa between the two algorithms, as well as the algorithms with sleep/wake measures from a comprehensive 24-hour parent-reported diary.ResultsAgreement between uncorrected algorithms was moderate (77%–84%). By introducing a six-step adjustment, we increased agreement between algorithms (96%–97%) and with the diary. This decreased the difference in estimated sleep behaviors, e.g. Total Sleep Duration from 4.5 to 0.2 hours.ConclusionsThese adjustments enhance comparability between infant actimetry studies and the inclusion of parent-reported diaries allows the integration of daytime sleep. Objectively assessed infant sleep that is comparable across different studies supports the establishment of normative developmental trajectories and clinical cutoffs.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) membuat model blended learning dengan pendekatan cooperative (2) mengetahui kualitas model blended learning dengan pendekatan cooperative (3) mengetahui keefektifan model model blended learning dengan pendekatan cooperative pada mata kuliah Ilmu Lingkungan. Penelitian pengembangan ini mengadaptasi tahapan dan langkah pengembangan dari model Desain and Development Research (DDR). Tahap penelitian ini dilaksanakan melalui tahap identifikasi masalah, mendeskripsikan tujuan, desain dan pengembangan produk, tes dan evaluasi model, dan penyampaian hasil tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) model pembelajaran dikembangkan berdasarkan komponen blended learning dan prinsip kooperatif menggunakan e-learning MOODLE. (2) Hasil penilaian ahli desain model pembelajaran, ahli materi pelajaran, dan tanggapan mahasiswa masuk dalam kategori kualitas sangat baik, dan ahli media e-learning masuk dalam kategori kualitas baik. (3) Model pembelajaran yang dikembangkan memiliki efektivitas pembelajaran berdasarkan perbedaan rerata nila pra tes dan pos tes dalam kelas uji coba dengan perbandingan nilai gain hasil belajar menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan.Kata kunci: Model pembelajaran, blended learning, kooperatif, ilmu lingkungan Developing blended learning model with cooperative approach on environmental scienceAbstractThis research study aims to produce: (1) producing blended learning model with cooperative approach, (2) know the quality of blended learning model with cooperative approach, (3) know the effectiveness of blended learning model with cooperative approach in Environmental Science course. This development research adapted the stages and developmental steps of the Design and Development Research (DDR) model. This research stage was carried out through the stage of problem identification, describing the purpose, design and product development, test and evaluation model, and the delivery of test results. The results showed that (1) learning model was developed based on blended learning component and cooperative principle using e-learning MOODLE. (2) The results of the expert design assessment of learning model, subject matter experts, and students response fell into the category of excellent quality, and e-learning media experts fell into the category of good quality. (3) The effective learning model developed in the learning based on the difference of mean of pre test and test post in the trial class with the comparison of gain value of learning result showed significant difference.Keywords: Learning model, blended learning, cooperative, environmental science
