The prediction and understanding of the extreme weather events became one of the top priorities of the forecasting centers. To analyze the heavy rainfall events, the data from reanalysis and station datasets are utilized. The linear regression analysis and principle component analysis (PCA) are applied on precipitation, temperature, Arctic Oscillation Indices (AO) and North Atlantic Oscillation Indices (NAO) datasets. The results indicate that the relationship between these variables can be expressed neither by linear regression nor by PCA, which falls in short in capturing the complexity of the problem. The results indicate the importance of low-level jet in two cases out of three cases considered here.

The subject of this article is exmination of the influence of the Arctic air flow on the climatic conditions of the winter period in the center of the European territory of Russia (Moscow). In recent years, the question of the relationship between regional climatic conditions and such global circulation patterns as the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and the Arctic Oscillation (AK) has become increasingly important. Based on the data of long-term observations of temperature and precipitation, the relationship with the AK and NAO was considered. For the winter months of the period 2014-2018, the back trajectories of the movement of air masses were computed for each date of precipitation to identify the sources of precipitation. The amount of winter precipitation that forms the snow cover of Moscow has no connection with either the North Atlantic Oscillation or the Arctic Oscillation. The Moscow region is located at the intersection of the zones of influence of positive and negative phases of both cyclonic patterns (AK and NAO), which determine the weather in the Northern Hemisphere. For the winter months, a correlation between the surface air temperature and NAO (r = 0.72) and AK (r = 0.66) was established. Winter precipitation in the center of the European territory of Russiais mainly associated with the unloading of Atlantic air masses. Arctic air masses relatively rarely invade Moscow region and bring little precipitation (their contribution does not exceed 12% of the total winter precipitation).

Abstract The authors estimate the change in extreme winter weather events over Europe that is due to a long-term change in the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) such as that observed between the 1960s and 1990s. Using ensembles of simulations from a general circulation model, large changes in the frequency of 10th percentile temperature and 90th percentile precipitation events over Europe are found from changes in the NAO. In some cases, these changes are comparable to the expected change in the frequency of events due to anthropogenic forcing over the twenty-first century. Although the results presented here do not affect anthropogenic interpretation of global and annual mean changes in observed extremes, they do show that great care is needed to assess changes due to modes of climate variability when interpreting extreme events on regional and seasonal scales. How changes in natural modes of variability, such as the NAO, could radically alter current climate model predictions of changes in extreme weather events on multidecadal time scales is also discussed.

The phenomenon of traffic flows in almost all major cities of Indonesia is large dominance in the use of motorcycles. The change in the proportion of motorcycle users on the streets reaches more than 50%. The author will discuss the effect of motorcycle volume proportion on traffic flow parameters such as speed and density. This research has been conducted at Ampang street with 4 lanes 2-way undivided type and Adinegoro street with 4 lanes 2-way divided type in Padang. By using Video Image Processor survey method, the data of traffic volume, and time travel of the vehicle for 12 hours were obtained. Further data is processed and the results are plotted into the graph by linear regression method. The results showed that the highest proportion of motorcycle volume of 75.9% occurred on Raya Ampang street and the lowest by 53.2% occurred on Adinegoro street (to the North). The result of linear regression analysis where proportion of motorcycle volume (p) as variable x and space-mean-speed (S) as variable y is S = -0.687(p) + 93.467, R2 = 0.8582 at Ampang street, S = -1.3273(p) + 143.75, R2 = 0.8153 at Adinegoro street (to the south), and y = -1.3861(p) + 131.94, R2 = 0.7882 at Adinegoro street (to the north). Then the relationship between space-mean-speed, density, and traffic volume analyzed.

Background: It is currently believed that protein folding rates are influenced by protein structure, environment and temperature, amino acid sequence and so on. We have been working for long to determine whether and in what ways mRNA affects the protein folding rate. A large number of palindromes aroused our attention in our previous research. Whether these palindromes do have important influences on protein folding rates and what’s the mechanism? Very few related studies are focused on these problems. Objective: In this article, our motivation is to find out if palindromes have important influences on protein folding rates and what’s the mechanism. Method: In this article, the parameters of the palindromes were defined and calculated, the linear regression analysis between the values of each parameter and the experimental protein folding rates were done. Furthermore, to compare the results of different kinds of proteins, proteins were classified into the two-state proteins and the multi-state proteins. For the two kinds of proteins, the above linear regression analysis were performed respectively. Results : Protein folding rates were negatively correlated to the palindrome frequencies for all proteins. An extremely significant negative linear correlation appeared in the relationship between palindrome densities and protein folding rates. And the repeatedly used bases by different palindromes simultaneously have an important effect on the relationship between palindrome density and protein folding rate. Conclusion: The palindromes have important influences on protein folding rates, and the repeatedly used bases in different palindromes simultaneously play a key role in influencing the protein folding rates.

The Bay of Samaná, formed by tectonism and sedimentation, is delimited to the north by the peninsula of the same name, to the south by the north slope of the Eastern Mountain Range and Los Haitises National Park, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and to the west by the ancient Gran Estero, today the Lower Yuna. There follows a process of continuous degradation by the existing tectonic forces and the sediment contributions by the Yuna, Yabón, and La Yeguada rivers to the south as well as by the landslides of the mountainous area of the Samaná Peninsula, during periods of storms and hurricanes. The coastal area of Samaná Bay has altered by 2.17 km2 at the mouth of the Yuna River from 2003–2015. The high turbidity level has affected coral reefs and marine species.  The  mangroves  are  lost  faster  than  they  are  regenerated  by  the  coastline’s change. Variations in the elemental compositions of calcium and iron show the terrigenous influence on the dynamics of the bay during Extreme Weather Events (EWP) in the river basins that flow into it. Abrupt changes in the rainfall regime produced an equal change in the estuary sedimentation regime, according to the 210Pb. In the 2007–2016 period, a column of sediment that reached 38 cm and a 12 cm to 8.4 km column were deposited 4 km southeast of the municipality of Sánchez and east of the mouth of the Yuna River. The Sedimentary Accumulation Rate is very high, and the content of heavy metals exceeds the threshold values of Table SQuirt.
