AbstractProblems of English Teaching in Elementary School. The Indonesian government hasacknowledged the importance of English by putting it into the education system for fivedecades. English has been integrated to secondary school for a long time. The Englishlanguage is exerting even stronger influence in the modern world and has become aninternational language. There are also advantages of introducing a foreign languagefor young learners. The government of Indonesia has therefore set up the policy tointroduce English language in primary schools. This policy is optional. It depends onschool and community demands. The government does not provide teachers andcurriculum. Schools and community are in charge to provide teachers, curriculum andfacilities. Teachers are one of the most important parts in the discourse of educationand the process of teaching and learning in schools. Ada juga keuntunganmemperkenalkan bahasa asing untuk pelajar muda. Oleh karena itu, pemerintahIndonesia telah menyiapkan kebijakan untuk memperkenalkan bahasa Inggris disekolah dasar. Kebijakan ini bersifat opsional. Hal ini tergantung pada tuntutan sekolahdan masyarakat. Pemerintah tidak menyediakan guru dan kurikulum. Sekolah danmasyarakat bertanggung jawab untuk menyediakan guru, kurikulum, dan fasilitas.Guru adalah salah satu bagian yang paling penting dalam wacana pendidikan danproses belajar-mengajar di sekolah. The background of this study is the low learning outcomes IPS. It is characterized by the acquisition of the average value of social studies students at 59.10 with the percentage of students learning completeness amounted to 50.00% from 20 students. This research is a classroom action research (PTK) which aims to improve student learning outcomes through the implementation of strategies IPS Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL). This study was conducted in 010 primary schools Silikuan Ukui Hulu subdistrict, with research subjects fifth grade students with a number of 20 students. This study was conducted by two cycles. The data used in this study are the activities of teachers, student activities, and learning outcomes are collected using the observation technique teacher and student activities and written tests, while the analytical techniques used in this research is descriptive analysis. The study states that the acquisition of the activities of teachers and students and learning outcomes in each cycle has increased. This is supported by: (1) the percentage of activity the teachers in the first cycle of the first meeting by 45%, in the first cycle of meetings II percentage teacher activity by 52%, the percentage of teacher activity in the second cycle of the first meeting by 65%, the percentage of teacher activity in the second cycle meeting II by 75%; (2) the percentage of student activity in the first cycle of the first meeting by 49%, in the first cycle of meetings II percentage of student activity by 60%, the percentage of the activity of students in the second cycle the first meeting by 63%, the percentage of student activity on the second cycle of meeting II by 79% ; (3) learning outcomes in basic score of 59,10.Dan which reached KKM 65 only 10 students or (50%). The first cycle of the average value obtained by the students reached 63.6. Students who achieve KKM there are 13 students or 65 (65%). Cycle II average value obtained students achieve value above 67 means the KKM. Students who reached the last 16 students or (80%).

The current study investigates the beliefs held by science teachers on constructivism and a traditional approach in Qatar government primary schools. More specifically, it aims to investigate the challenges that science teachers experience during inquiry-based learning implementation. A web-based survey was conducted in order to collect data from grades 4 to 6 science teachers. A total of 112 science teachers responded and completed the survey on a voluntary basis. The results indicate that science teachers hold a higher beliefs in constructivism than traditional approach. A T-test and ANOVA analysis have showed that there is no significant differences between the beliefs of science teachers’ and their gender, level of education, and years of teaching experience. In addition, science teachers faced challenges in lesson planning, assessment, and teacher support.

This paper explains why learner autonomy is taken into account in language learning where English is a foreign language for the learners particularly in Indonesia. The definition of learner autonomy and its advantages to language learner in EFL contexts will be described within this paper. Many scholars from psychological education and English teaching and learning had proved that language learning can be improved by certain strategy. They revealed the correlation between the autonomous learning with students’ success in learning with different aspect. The definition of autonomy is similar to many different words such as self-regulated and self-determined. Finally, the writer suggests how teacher can promote the autonomous learning atmosphere in the classroom.Keywords: strategy, promoting autonomy, EFL context, Indonesia

This research examines the manifestation of Appreciation system in online tourism advertising discourse. The data is picked out from ten advertisements posted on Youtube by Expedia Group, an American travel group and are qualitatively and quantitatively analysed with the help of the Concordance AntConc software. The findings show that three subcategories of Appreciation which are Reaction, Composition and Valuation coexist in this discourse with different distribution. Besides, positive Appreciation and its negative counterpart are unevenly distributed in the samples, with the rate of 1: 9. Negative Appreciation, however, contributes to the ignition of visitors’ curiosity and desire to discover the destinations rather evoke unfavourable views of the appraised. Besides the conclusion, some implications for applying the research result to English teaching and learning in Vietnam are also provided at the end of the paper.
