The present study aimed at investigating the effect of using wikis on developing business writing skills and reducing writing anxiety of Business Administration students at Prince Sattam bin Abdul Aziz University, KSA. Sixty students, who were randomly chosen and divided into two equivalent groups: control and experimental, participated in the study. Two main tools were devised to collect data: Test of Business Writing Skills (TBWS) and Writing Anxiety Inventory (WAI). The experiment was conducted during the second semester of the academic year 2015-2016. A t-test was utilized to calculate the differences between the mean scores of the two groups in pre- and post-intervention. The findings of the study showed statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group on the post-TBWS in favor of the experimental group. In addition, the writing anxiety level of the experimental group, after the intervention, was significantly less than the control group. These findings revealed the positive effects of wikis on developing business writing skills and reducing writing anxiety of EFL learners. It is recommended that sufficient training should be provided to instructors on how to integrate wikis in business writing instruction. Pedagogical implications and suggestions for further research are presented.

The aim of this study was to know the effectiveness of the use of alphabet cards game as interesting tool to explain vocabularies and it make it easier to remember their meanings. This study belongs to the quasi experimental research and presents pre-test, post test and to investigate the effect of using alphabet cards game on vocabulary mastery of commercial business administration students. The participants were the students from commercial business administration students at the third semester (N=54) of State Polytechnic Bengkalis and divided into two groups. Both groups were taught vocabulary, however, the experimental group students who are exposed to alphabet cards game and the controlled group students who received conventional method. Pre-test and post-test were given to both experimental group students and controlled group students. The score of the vocabulary tests were compared through independent sample t-test. The mean value of pre-test of experimental class was 61.35, while the control class was 52.23. After learning using alphabet card games in experimental class the mean value obtained in post-test was 78.85, while in control class was 59.04.  The improved of learning outcomes can be seen from the level of significance was 0.000 and it was lower than t test 0.000<0.05.  It means that the hypothesis null is not accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the score of the students in learning vocabulary between the experimental group and control group was significantly different. The experimental group students who learned vocabulary using alphabet cards game had increased their vocabulary mastery.

This study is conducted to determine theeffectiveness of teaching grammar-in-context tominimize students‘ grammatical errors in writing. Thedesign of the study was a quasi-experimental with anon-randomized pretest-posttest control group. Thesamples of the study were taken from the population ofthe tenth-grade students. The control group was taughtby conventional grammar which was separately givenwith writing skills. Likewise, the experimental one wastreated by teaching grammar-in-context. The results ofthe study showed that the mean score in the post-testwas higher than that in the pretest; and the mean scoreof experimental group increased 16.20 point after thetreatment. This result indicated that teaching grammarin-context is considered to be effective in minimizingstudents‘ grammatical errors in writing.Keywords: grammar-in-context, grammatical errors

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a developed writing module on enhancing the General Foundation Program students’ writing skills. The study made use of a pre-test and post-test quasi-experimental design. The study participants incorporated 70 Omani students and 2 EFL teachers. The students were divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group incorporated 35 students who studied English at the General Foundation Program of Sur Nursing Institute. The control group involved 35 students who took an English course at The General Foundation Program Centre in Muscat. Both institutions function under the auspices of the Omani Ministry of Health. The control group studied the ministry’s writing syllabus, whereas the experimental group studied the writing module. The writing pre-test was done before module delivery and the post-test was done after the intervention. ANCOVA test was utilized to draw a statistical analogy between the mean scores of tests of both groups. The test findings divulged that there was a statistically significant mean difference between the control and experimental group’s scores in the writing post-test. The module significantly enhanced the experimental group’s writing skills.

BACKGROUND: Aim of current study was to examine the effects of school-based mind subtraction meditation program on smartphone addiction tendency and mental health of third grade students in a South Korean elementary school. MATERIALS &amp; METHODS: A quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent comparison groups was used. An experimental group (n = 24), who participated in the school-based meditation program, and a control group (n = 22), who did not participate in the program, were measured pre-test, post-test, and also three months after the completion of this study on smartphone addiction tendency and mental health. RESULTS: The study result showed a significant decrease in smartphone addiction tendency and also significant improvements in mental health variables of depression, anxiety, aggression, and impulsivity for the experimental group. These improvements were shown to continue even after the study completion when measured post-intervention at three months. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that the mind subtraction meditation program had positive effects on smartphone addiction tendency and mental health variables. It can be suggested from this study to recommend mind subtraction meditation as one of feasible strategies to prevent smartphone addiction and to improve mental health status in elementary school children. Further, this study meaningfully supports positive beneficial evidence of meditation program utilization in schools.

Introduction: Fatigue is one of the most common causes of disability in most elderly people affected with diabetes. Considering the growing population of this group, the present study aimed to determine the effect of warm foot bath on the fatigue of the elderly people with diabetes. Methods: The randomized clinical trial study was carried out on 66 elderly diabetic patients who had referred to the Diabetes Research Center in Yazd. Eligible participants were selected by convenience sampling and randomly divided into two experimental and control groups. Participants of the experimental group performed a warm foot bathing for 20 minutes during two weeks. The Piper Fatigue Scale was completed in three steps (at the beginning of the study, two and four weeks after intervention). Data were analyzed by SPSS software, using ANOVA for repeated measures, independent t-test, Chi-Square and Fisher exact test. Results: The mean ± standard deviation of fatigue in the three phases of evaluation in the experimental group was 5.91 ± 0.81, 4.80 ± 1.19, 4.55 ± 1.57 and in the control group was 5.95 ± 0.97, 6.06 ± 1.13 and 5.79 ± 1.33, respectively. The difference in the mean of fatigue scores in both groups after the intervention was significant (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Revealing the positive effects of warm foot bathing, this method, as a non-pharmacological and easy-to-use method, is recommended to improve fatigue condition in the elderly patients with diabetes.

This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using Mind mapping strategy in developing writing skills for sixth year primary school students in Qatar. Quasi-experimental design was used in this study. The population was the sixth year students of Al Forqan primary school for boys with a total number of 103 students. Out of this population, a purposive sample of 51 students was taken, the control group (27 students) and the experimental group (24 students). First, the data was collected by using a prewriting test. Then, the experiment had been implemented. Next, the second part of the data was collected using the posttest. The data obtained were analyzed by using t-test formula. The findings of study were: A) there are statistically significant differences between the mean scores obtained by participants in the pre-test and those of the post-test of the experimental group in writing skills in favor to the posttest. B) there are statistically significant differences between the mean scores obtained by participants in the post-test of the control group and the experimental group in writing skills in favor to the experimental group. Depending on the statistical analyses of the hypotheses of the study, we can safely conclude that exposing students to the training strategy helped them develop their performance during the post administration of the writing skills test. In light of the results, a number of points can be recommended: writing skills via mind mapping strategy use in the primary stage specially in the 6th grade students should be emphasized in teaching writing skills. Moreover, deliberation attempts should be made to help students in the primary stage acquire and use the writing as amusing as possible. Furthermore, the objectives of teaching English language should concentrate on writing skills beyond the mechanics level and emphasize writing as a process.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health concern resulting in high rates of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, despite treatment having been available for over 50 years. It remains a crucial health problem in Thailand. This study aimed to develop a program for building tuberculosis (TB) care competencies of village health volunteers (VHVs) and to examine its effects on the outcomes of care for TB patients. METHODS: The competency development program (CDP) was developed based on the principles of empowerment and community-based TB care. Forty VHVs in two villages of Khoglor sub-district, Trang, Thailand were recruited. Participants were classified into control and experimental groups equally (n=20) by using a matched pair technique. RESULTS: The results showed that the mean scores of TB knowledge, attitude towards TB care, and TB care skills in the experimental group at the baseline and post-intervention were significantly different (p &lt; 0.05). The mean scores of TB knowledge, attitude towards TB care, and TB care skills in the experimental and control groups at the baseline were not different. However, the scores of these three competencies at the post-intervention were significantly higher in the experimental group, compared to the control group (p &lt; .05). CONCLUSION: Per the findings of the study, healthcare professionals should incorporate the principles of empowerment and community-based TB care in TB training programs in order to enhance TB care competencies of community health volunteers.

The current research study investigated the effects of talking story books on Saudi young EFL learners’ reading comprehension skills. A sample of Saudi-young-EFL learners were randomly selected and divided into two groups: an experimental group (40 students) and a control group (39 students). Students of both groups took a pre reading comprehension test at the mid of the 2016 academic year. The researcher used the talking story books when teaching the experimental group for four weeks whereas the students in the control group were taught without the use of talking story books. After four weeks of instruction, both groups completed the same reading comprehension test again. Measures of the means, standard deviations, and MANCOVA were used to determine the differences between the two groups. The study revealed that students who attended reading classes using talking story books outperformed their control group counterparts in many reading-based skills. This is indicative of the positive effects of talking story books on EFL young learners reading comprehension skills.

Since it is a productive skill, writing is considered one of the most crucial abilities in communication; nonetheless, EFL learners have difficulty composing texts which are both communicatively and linguistically competent. This study intends to explore the benefits of using authentic materials in EFL learners, with an emphasis on writing skills. To pursue this objective, fifty-two participants were chosen randomly from a B1 level (following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). The participants were distributed into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The students were majoring in various degrees at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE). In this case study, in which the application of authentic materials covered fifty percent of daily two-hour classes, data was collected through a structured pre-test, post-test, and an opinion survey. All data was analyzed using a rubric designed for this purpose. This research, which is based on the Communicative Language Teaching Approach, also deals with various concepts regarding authentic materials and researchers&rsquo; perceptions. The findings elicited positive results for students&rsquo; writing with the use of authentic materials skills and shed lights on participants&rsquo; opinions.

In this study, the objective was to test the influence of Yoga on diabetes patients by comparing the pre and post-test scores of subjective well-being. The study nature is pre and post experimental design. We used two groups including control group and the experimental group or group on which intervention is administered. The intervention in this case is the Yoga exercise. The sampling is based on convenience non-random sampling consisted of 30 patients who were diabetic patients. For experiment purpose, we divided the group into two equal parts including control group and the experiment group. The data is collected from survey method and target of the survey was diabetic type II patients. The duration of the study was 6 months. The results show that for experimental group, subjective wellbeing in the pre-test score was 153.73 which increased to 172.84 in post-test. In control group, the mean score of subjective-wellbeing in pre-test was 154.71 while in post-test, the score was 155.56. This result shows that in control group, the subjective wellbeing did not change much compare to the experiment group. The results support the notion that Yoga if administered can help diabetic patients in reducing the overall wellbeing including physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions.
