Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the coinciding anticipation timing (CAT), reaction time and dynamic balance performances of American football players according to their playing positions. Material: Thirty-five American football players, who train at least 3 days a week, and compete in Universities Protected Football 1st League, participated in this study, voluntarily. The players were divided into two playing positions: offensive (17 players, mean age: 20.76 ± 1.30 years) and defensive (18 players, mean age: 21.94 ± 2.87 years). The CAT at different stimulus speeds (6 mph, 12 mph), reaction time (visual, auditory, mixed), and dynamic balance performance (anterior-posterior, medial-lateral, perimeter lenght) were measured in the laboratory environment. The CAT, reaction time, and dynamic balance performance of players were determined by Bassin Anticipation Timer, Newtest 1000, and Technobody Prokin-200, respectively. Results: The data obtained were analyzed in SPSS (20.0) program. Firstly, the raw data for CAT performance (6mph, 12 mph) were converted to absolute error score. According to Shapiro-Wilk test result, the all data showed normal distribution. Independent Sample t test was used to determine the differences between the two playing positions. In addition, the effect size between the two playing positions was calculated in parameters with showing significant differences, and Cohen’s d (1988) values were taken into account. Compared with the defensive players (20.15±3.81 ms), the absolute error scores at fast stimulus speeds (12 mph) of offensive players (17.45±3.48 ms) was found to be significantly lower (t(33) =-2.181, p=.036). The visual reaction time of offensive players (318.11± 17.47 ms) was significantly shorter than defensive players (340.58± 32.60 ms, t(26322) =-2.560, p=.017). In terms of dynamic balance parameters such as perimeter lenght, anterior-posterior, and medial-lateral, there was no statistically significant difference between the playing positions (p>0.05). Conclusions: Perceptual-cognitive characteristics such as CAT, and reaction time performance differ according to the playing positions, and this difference may be related to the physical, and cognitive demands required by their playing positions.

Background and Aims: This study aimed at the effects of 8 weeks TRX exercises and core stability exercises in the stable level on the landing pattern, the stability of the core area, and the balance of girls football players. Methods: Thirty athletes with trunk defects were screened by Tuck Jump test and selected as a statistical sample. Finally, assigned to two groups of 15 subjects at a stable level and varying level training. Both groups participated in pretest and post-test. Both groups training sessions for 8 weeks and three weeks each week on core stability training at both sustained (stable) and unstable (TRX). This study used the core stability practice protocol in the training section at a stable and unstable level. The static and dynamic balance were evaluated by BESS and Y tests, respectively. McGill’s endurance tests also evaluated the endurance of the core region. In addition, landing mechanics were assessed using the Landing Error Score System test. ANCOVA test was used to compare the differences between the research variables by two types of training. The stability of the core body was used in two groups of training (stable and TRX) and a t-test for correlating the changes within the group. Results: The results of the analysis of t-test showed that in the results of the stable training (P≤0.001) and TRX (P≤0.001) effect on score of the error of landing error, LESS, flexion 60 °, Sorensen, Right Plank, static balance and total dynamic balance score. In the post-test, there are significant differences between the two groups in the TRX and stable levels in LESS, Sorensen, static balance in the state stand on two legs on a soft surface and stand in the Tandem on a soft surface (P≤0.05). Conclusion: the results of this study showed that the use of core stability training at a stable and unstable level by helping to improve the landing jump activity, as well as improving muscular balance and endurance, can be eliminated by modifying some of the risk factors associated with an ACL injury to prevent Lower limb non-limiting injury in athletes with trunk defects.

To investigate acutely the effects of different stretching exercises on football players on the basic motoric properties (strength, flexibility, speed, balance and explosive force). 10 volunteer football players with an average age of 17 participated in the study. Three different measurements protocols were used in the study. The first measurement was performed without stretching exercise, the second measurement was performed after the static stretching exercise and the third measurement was performed after the dynamic stretching exercise. All measurements were carried out at Manisa Tarık Almış sports facilities. To determine the performances of volunteers; back strength, leg strength, hand grip strength, flexibility, 20 m. sprint and flamingo balance test. The Repeated Measures ANOVA test and the Bonferroni Test were used using the SPSS 23.0 package program to analyze the relationship between the performance of the study group and performance tests on different days and different protocols. When the three different methods applied to participants were compared; there is a statistically significant difference between sit and reach, speed and balance tests. As a result, there is a positive effect of stretching exercises on flexibility, sprint and dynamic balance skills. ÖzetFutbolcularda farklı germe egzersizlerinin temel motorik özellikler (kuvvet, esneklik, sürat, denge ve patlayıcı kuvvet) üzerine etkilerini akut olarak incelemektir. Çalışmaya yaş ortalamaları 17 olan 10 gönüllü futbolcu katılmıştır. Çalışmada 3 farklı ölçüm protokolü kullanılmıştır. Birinci ölçüm germe egzersizi yapmadan, ikinci ölçüm statik germe egzersizinden sonra ve üçüncü ölçüm dinamik germe egzersizinden sonra gerçekleştirildi. Tüm ölçümler Manisa Tarık Almış Spor Tesislerinde yapılmıştır. Katılımcıların performanslarını belirlemek için sırt kuvveti, bacak kuvveti, el kavrama kuvveti, esneklik, 20 m. sprint, flamingo denge testi uygulanmıştır. Araştırma grubunun farklı günlerde ve farklı germe egzersizlerini takiben uygulanan performans testlerinin aralarındaki ilişkiyi analiz etmek için SPSS 23.0 paket programından, Repeated Measures Testi ve Bonferroni Testi kullanılmıştır. Katılımcılara uygulanan three farklı ölçüm metodu karşılaştırıldığında; otur-eriş, sürat ve denge testleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılık vardır (p<0.05). Sonuç olarak, germe egzersizlerinin esneklik, sürat ve denge üzerinde olumlu etkisi vardır.

The The objective of research was to find out the significant contribution of independent variables partially (eye-foot coordination, agility, dynamic balance, and torso flexibility) to dribbling ability and the significant contribution of independent variables simultaneously to dribbling ability. This research employed a correlational descriptive quantitative approach with regression analysis design. The sample of research was student football players in Nusantara PGRI University of Kediri, consisting of 40 taken from total population 60 players. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling one. Technique of analyzing data used was regression analysis with SPSS version 16 software help. The result of data analysis showed that: (1) X1 contributed significantly to Y with tstatistic =  5.472 > ttable = 2.021, (2) X2 contributed significantly to Y with tstatistic =  2.716 > ttable = 2.021, (3) X3 contributed significantly to Y with tstatistic =  3.046 > ttable = 2.021, (4) X4 contributed significantly to Y with tstatistic =  2.595 > ttable = 2.021. From the result of research, it could be concluded that eye-foot coordination variable contributed by 29.5%, agility variable by 26.8%, dynamic balance variable by 4.8%, and torsion flexibility variable by 5.8%. Meanwhile, all of independent variables contributed to dribbling ability by 95.8%.

Context:  Ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries in the physically active population. Previous researchers have shown that supporting the ankle with taping or bracing is effective in preventing ankle sprains. However, no authors have compared the effects of self-adherent tape and lace-up ankle braces on ankle range of motion (ROM) and dynamic balance in collegiate football players. Objective:  To examine the effectiveness of self-adherent tape and lace-up ankle braces in reducing ankle ROM and improving dynamic balance before and after a typical collegiate football practice. Design:  Crossover study. Setting:  Collegiate athletic training room. Patients or Other Participants:  Twenty-nine National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I football athletes (age = 19.2 ± 1.14 years, height = 187.52 ± 20.54 cm, mass = 106.44 ± 20.54 kg). Intervention(s):  Each participant wore each prophylactic ankle support during a single practice, self-adherent tape on 1 leg and lace-up ankle brace on the other. Range of motion and dynamic balance were assessed 3 times for each leg throughout the testing session (baseline, prepractice, postpractice). Main Outcome Measure(s):  Ankle ROM for inversion, eversion, dorsiflexion, and plantar flexion were measured at baseline, immediately after donning the brace or tape, and immediately after a collegiate practice. The Y-Balance Test was used to assess dynamic balance at these same time points. Results:  Both interventions were effective in reducing ROM in all directions compared with baseline; however, dynamic balance did not differ between the tape and brace conditions. Conclusions:  Both the self-adherent tape and lace-up ankle brace provided equal ROM restriction before and after exercise, with no change in dynamic balance.

Background. Developing lower extremity muscles in a proportional shape plays an important role of balanced body movement. It is believed that special development of muscles which provide multidirectional movements of ankle will contribute to the increase of balance ability, and this may significantly support the improvement of technical skill performance in football. The aim of the research was to examine the ability to keep dynamic balance and ankle joint muscle strength in football players, and to prove the relation between the ankle joint muscle strength level and the dynamic balance ability of each foot. Methods. The participants were amateur footballers (n = 17, football experience 10 ± 1.4years, weekly training 12 ± 1.3 h). “WFQ-R poll” questionnaire was used to determine the participants’ dominant and non-dominant limb, the dynamic balance was assessed using “Tecnobody Pro-Kin Type B 252” (Italy) device and ankle joint muscle strength was measured using an isokinetic dynamometer “Cybex Norm” (USA). Results. Significant differences (p < .05) were found between limbs for ankle plantar flexors, in non-dominant limb plantar flexors were stronger. Dynamic balance ability for dominant foot was better in comparison with non- dominant foot. The correlation was found between ankle plantar flexors, evertors, invertors and between dorsal and plantar flexors for both limbs. Conclusions. Strength improvement of muscles affects the movement of the ankle dynamic balance positively, but for the development of static and dynamic balance, proprioceptive balance training is as effective as strength training.

Background and Aims: Genu Varum is an angular deformity of the knee that is responsible for the alteration of the forces at the knee so that the line of force shifts farther medially from the knee joint centre intensifying the medial compartment load and creating a medial joint reaction force that is nearly three and a half times that of the lateral compartment. Football is a high intensity sport that places inordinate amounts of load and torque on the knee joint making it more susceptible to growth deformities in the developing age groups. Genu varum is a predisposing factor to lateral instability which affects dynamic balance. This study consists of a comparison in dynamic balance between professional football players, those without a knee deformity and those with genu varum deformity using the Star excursion balance test. Methodology: A comparative study was conducted among 40 elite level football players and they were divided into two groups one of which consisted football players without a knee deformity and the other group which comprised of football players with genu varum. Genu varum was calculated using the intercondylar distance measure. Star excursion balance test was used to assess dynamic balance of each individual and their average distances were calculated for each direction in the test. Results: The Reach Distances in the anterior direction showed no significant difference (P>0.05) between the control and Group Bs whereas significant differences (P<0.05) were obtained in the Posteromedial and Posterolateral directions. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in reach distances in the anterior direction but significant differences in the reach distances were observed in the posteromedial as well as the posterolateral direction suggesting that genu varum deformity does affect the dynamic balance in elite level football players.
