The following research study focused on long distance romantic relationships and the communication used when faced with separation. Many different medias are utilized in relational maintenance and the literature review of this paper explores those options. Online communication and numerous social media sites can positively or negatively affect the relationship quality. After analyzing secondary research, a primary research study was conducted monitoring one newly formed college age couple and their communication for a four-week time period. When looking at the information and data collected, there were numerous examples to show the Social Penetration Theory in this couple’s growing relationship. The final section offers limitations and suggestions for further research of similar studies.

Along with the rapid development of technology, the current use of social media by the community is also increasing. One of the social media that is currently on the rise is the TikTok application. TikTok application users come from various backgrounds and ages, including teenagers. Video-based TikTok features accompanied by music, writing, and pictures are considered attractive so that they are liked by teenagers as a means of showing their existence and self-disclosure. TikTok is also currently developing as a way to share information. The theory applied by the researcher was Alman and Taylor's Social Penetration Theory. In addition to such theory, this paper are supported and strengthened by the concepts of Self-Disclosure, Social Media, Teenagers, TikTok, and also Self-Existence. This paper was a qualitative descritpive study which applied a qualitative study method. This paper involved several informants namely teenagers who were also the users of the TikTok application. The inclusion criteria here were teenagers who had a TikTok account, were active on TikTok, and used TikTok as part of their existence and self-disclosure. The results of this study explored the process of self-disclosure and also the existence carried out by the informants in accordance with the stages proposed in the social penetration theory. Informants passed through the stages of self-disclosure sequentially from the orientation stage to the stable stage so that the existence of teenagers in presenting themselves on social media could be observed.

This research exploring the formation of online relationships. Adolescent used of internet technologies that influence the formation of online relationships. It brings attention to influences of related elements such as social and individual factors on adolescent needs and behaviors in online communication in Indonesia. The proposed conceptual framework that adolescent online behaviors are linked to their needs pertaining to developmental, social-psychological, and cognitive demands. While adolescent needs are influenced by the social and individual factors, such influences also impose indirect impact on teen online behaviors. This research focuses on adolescent characteristic and needs of group which influence use of internet environment for develop relationship. The Phenomenology theory and Social penetration theory used in this research. The aim of this study was to find out among types of online relationships and relationship quality, through qualitative in depth interviews. It is therefore important to determine their communication needs when they are try to develop positive relationship by forming online collaboration. Schultz approach to phenomenology was used as research method. Twenty teens were interviewed. Research revealed that teens use the internet to support existing, offline relationships, and that such use is associated with closer relationships. For those who form online relationships, these are more viewed as close or even romantic in nature. However, when compared along various dimensions, online relationships demonstrate weaker ties than do offline relationship. In generals extroverted teens are more likely to form online relationships, although, if that is their purpose, so do introverted teens. Forming online relationships may rest with the teen’s awareness of how to present him or herself to anonymity of the cue-free internet environment.

This research focuses on the social-media driven convention of advertising in order to analyze the parasocial interactions between athlete endorsers and audiences on Facebook. Wardell Stephen Curry II will be the focus of this study due to his placement on Forbes list of The NBA Endorsement All Stars in 2016. A content analysis including posts and comments from Curry's verified Facebook page during the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 regular NBA seasons will be used to analyze the type of advertising messages and the effectiveness of the athlete/audience interactions. The goal of this study is to establish whether parasocial interaction can serve as an effective advertising tool. The results of this study could imply that advertisers will benefit from encouraging their endorsers to interact with audiences, or use parasocial techniques to foster a sense of personalization in communication about the brand on social media in order to enhance sales and the overall success of the brand. In this digital era, the internet, and Social Media (SM) has had a radical impact on the shopping behavior of “costumers” The SM provides a platform where “costumers” are exposed to the best product with the best price along with reviews and opinions about the merchandise. So, we can turn our heads and look at a brand in a way as if the brand is speaking to us. This study was an attempt to explore the Social Media Marketing Activities (SMMA) that are being used for the marketing of fashionable products like apparel and to what level the SMMA activities of brands truly strengthen the relationship with customers and motivate purchase intention. Moreover, SMMA has a robust application in developing a marketing strategy for business. It has become a significant tool that collaborates with businesses and people. It is concluded that the “costumer”-brand relationship does have a positive and statistically significant impact on consumers’ purchase intention through SM.

The research, based on uses and gratifications theory, identifies consumer motivation and factors that influence consumers' intention to follow brands on the social media platform of Instagram. Accordingly, this study empirically examines the role of need for self-enhancement, the need for entertainment, and deal-seeking behaviour on the intention to follow brands on Instagram. Further, the study investigates the mediation of social media usage behaviour for consumption decisions on eliciting brand following behaviour. Moderation of consumer skepticism on the relationship of deal-seeking behaviour, and intention to follow brands is also investigated. Findings reveal a significant direct effect of need for self-enhancement, need for entertainment, and deal-seeking behaviour on intention to follow brands. Indirect effect of social media usage behaviour for consumption decisions was also significant; however, moderation of consumer skepticism was not found to be significant. The study will help marketers create engaging content that enables consumer-brand interactions.

This article explores the role of social media promotions in the marketing of luxury, from the perspectives of both representatives of global brands and the local influencers contracted to promote them online. It provides insights into role of social media in marketing luxury in ‘new’ markets (African cities) and the complexities attendant to the relationship between brand representatives and influencers. It reports on in-depth interviews with brand representatives and social media influencers working in the luxury sector in large anglophone African cities. Empirical findings show the role of social media in how luxury is promoted by those working in the industry. Three key complexities to do with value, trust and authenticity were evident in how global brand representatives and local influencers discussed social media. In terms of value, influencers emphasize strategies for monetizing visibility, while brand managers emphasize the need to get their money’s worth. Regarding trust, influencers express caution about brands trying to exploit them, while brands express scepticism about the extent of influencer’s abilities. On the topic of authenticity, influencers emphasize how the integrity of their personal brands is paramount, while brand representatives are mostly concerned with how genuine the social media posts seem. The article provides original empirical details about the relationships between brand managers and social media influencers, as well as to the nuances of social media luxury marketing in African cities. It contributes to critical theories of branding practice in media economies of the global south.

The present study aimed at testing a model developed to uncover the relationships among social media addiction, cognitive absorption, and self-esteem. This studys’ sample consisted of 361 university students, 198 of whom were females, and 163 were males. Data were collected using the Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS), the Cognitive Absorption Scale (CAS), and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used to analyse the data. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between cognitive absorption and social media addiction; thus, cognitive absorption predicted social media addiction. A negative and significant relationship between self-esteem and social media addiction was also found; thus, self-esteem predicted social media addiction.

In the present time the impact of technological progress can be felt in many aspects of life, including marriage. The progress of the development of communication technology has made it easy to communicate specifically for married couples who are undergoing long-distance marital relationships, so that the relationship is maintained and harmonious. Social media is now used as a tool for communication, for example WhatsApp, Line, Facebook, or Instagram. All of those media are used because of their speed in conveying messages, so that long-distance couples can still communicate well and quickly. In a marital relationship, of course, there are fulfillments of rights and obligations. These fulfillments can still be fulfilled through social media, but they are not as maximized as when dealing directly.

Sociolinguistics is a joint scientific discipline between sociology and linguistics which means the relationship between society and language. In this case, sociolinguistics is the relationship and mutual influence between language behavior and social behavior. A language is an object of study of the social structures in society as means of communication and group identity. The ability of each human being in the language is different. Some people use two languages in their daily life which is called bilingual. most people like to switch languages with their interlocutors as needed. In sociolinguistics, there is code-switching which is related to bilingualism. Code-switching refers to a kind of code to switch between two languages of the same language at the same time. Code-switching here is a necessary ability to build in an ever-evolving multicultural environment. From social media, people can learn many languages ​​and explore various languages ​​used by others. Almost everyone uses social media. One famous artist who has a YouTube channel with many subscribers is Deddy Corbuzier. In Deddy Corbuzier's podcast, Deddy Corbuzier tends to switch Indonesian English with the other public figures. Therefore, this research aims to describe the types of code-switching using in Deddy Corbuzier podcast. There are three types such as tag switching, intersentential switching, and intrasentential switching. The data was analyzed by using Stockwell (2002) theory. The researchers used descriptive qualitative research methods to research by using (Sudaryanto, 2015). The results of this research, researchers found 3 data for tag switching, 1 data for intersentential switching, and 5 data for intrasentential switching.
