Considerable Pressure

Following initiations in educational reform that began in the 1990s, Hong Kong continues to experience considerable pressure for educational reform. On the surface many of these initiatives parallel reform policies/movements in Asia and indeed, globally. The success of any reform is dependent on how it is contextualised prior to and at implementation. In this article, an exploration is made into how reforms in four particular sareas, namely: professional development of principals, higher education, English language standards, and inclusion of students with learning difficulties have been conceived, contextualised and managed in Hong Kong, as it moves gradually toward increased adoption of education reforms. These areas are linked in that each describes and critiques contextualization with reference to areas such as accountability, co-operation and professional control.

The Impact

The article analyzes certain aspects of the first three decades of activity of Kharkiv University of Humanities “People’s Ukrainian Academy”, the first private Ukrainian scientific and educational complex to implement the Lifelong Learning model. Such fields of concern as the contribution of the educational institution to the development of the country’s educational system, the impact on education reform, the study, analysis, development and implementation of social partnership, a new social function of education, are considered. Special attention is paid to the necessity of drawing on the practices and experience of innovative educational structures that emerged in the early 1990s in Ukraine as a result of dramatic political and socio-economic changes. Moreover, the study of both best practices and those experiments and innovations that fell short of expectations without resulting in a decrease in quality given their small scale is underlined.

Engineering education is the main way to train the talents for the society. But, at present, the engineering education in our country exist many questions, such as, the concept of engineering education needs to be improved, the target of engineering education is not clear, the curriculum system is behind, teachers are lack of the experience and ability of engineering practice, and so no. In this article, some proposals have been put forward to accelerate the higher engineering education reform in the aspects of the theory into engineering education, such as, take the engineering education concepts into the basic education, optimize curriculum system, improve the teachers' ability of engineering practice, strengthen the system of continuing education for engineering technology personnel, and so on.
