We showed the utility of first trimester ultrasonography before 11 weeks of gestation for antenatal followup. We retrospectively analyzed 1295 records of patients who underwent first trimester ultrasonography (transvaginal/abdominal) in our antenatal clinic in Ankara, Turkey. Maternal age, parity, gestational age, and maternal gestational history were compared with ultrasonographic findings. Patients were divided into 12 groups based on ultrasonographic diagnoses in the first ultrasonographic scan, and called for a control examination within 10 days if the diagnostic findings were abnormal. The data were statistically analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and chi-square tests. We noted 81.3% patients to have single, viable, intrauterine pregnancies, while 18.7% had abnormal or complicated pregnancies with uterine anomalies, ovarian cysts, fibroids, or subchorionic hematomas. Normal and anembryonic pregnancies had significantly lower median diagnostic period in the control ultrasonography than in the first examination. First trimester ultrasonography before 11 weeks of gestation is valuable in determining pregnancy outcomes.

AbstractThe relevance of pregestational body mass index (BMI) on adverse pregnancy outcomes remained unclear in Southwest China. This study aimed to investigate the overall and age-category specific association between pre-gestational BMI and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), preeclampsia, cesarean delivery, preterm delivery, stillbirth, macrosomia, and small-for-gestational age (SGA) or large-for-gestational age (LGA) neonates in Southwest China. Furthermore, it explores the relative importance of influence of pregravid BMI and maternal age on pregnancy outcomes. 51,125 Chinese singleton pregnant women were recruited as study subjects. Multiple logistic regression models were used to examine the influence of pre-pregnancy BMI on adverse pregnancy outcomes. Gradient boosting machine was used to evaluate the relative importance of influence of pregravid BMI and maternal age on pregnancy outcomes. It is found that women who were overweight or obese before pregnancy are at higher risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes except for SGA neonates, while pre-pregnancy underweight is a protective factor for GDM, preeclampsia, cesarean delivery, macrosomia and LGA, but not SGA. Younger mothers are more susceptible to GDM and macrosomia neonates, while older mothers are more prone to preeclampsia. Pre-pregnancy BMI has more influence on various pregnancy outcomes than maternal age. To improve pregnancy outcomes, normal BMI weight as well as relatively young maternal ages are recommended for women in child-bearing age.

ABSTRACT Maternal with congenitial anomalies are known to have higher incidence of infertility, intrauterine growth restriction, fetal malposition, preterm labor, preterm premature rupture of membrane and increased cesaerean section rate. Study Design This is retrospective study, the pregnancies with uterine anomaly confirmed by ultrasound between Jan 2016 to jan 2017 at our hospital was taken and its outcome is observed. Reults The majority of preterm delivery in our study are mainly associated with septate and bicornuate uterus. Cesaerean section comprised of 80% and its major indication is due to fetal malpresentation (breech). Thus Pregnancy outcomes of individual depending on the type of uterine anomalies. Abstract ObjectivesTo investigate twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence for the prediction of TRAP-related adverse pregnancy outcomes at the gestational age of 11-14 weeks. MethodsPregnant women in the first trimester diagnosed with TRAP were recruited at West China Second University Hospital from January 2015 to June 2018. Systematic screening for the pump twin’s crown-rump length (CRL) and acardiac twin’s upper pole-rump length (URL) was conducted using ultrasonic detection. The (CRL-URL)/CRL and URL/CRL ratios were used to assess the pregnancy outcomes for the pump twin. ResultsTwenty-one pregnant women aged 21–39 years with a gestation of 11-14 weeks were recruited. TRAP was diagnosed on average (± standard deviation [SD]) at pregnancy week 13.1 ± 0.18. The pump twins’ mean (± SD) CRL was 6.65 ± 1.1 cm. The incidence of intrauterine death for the pump twins was 19.0% (n=4), the miscarriage rate was 14.3% (n=3), and the live birth rate was 66.7% (n=14). The (CRL-URL)/CRL ratios between the non-survival (intrauterine death and miscarriage) and survival groups significantly differed (0.33 ± 0.08 vs. 0.58 ± 0.08, p < 0.05). Similarly, the URL/CRL ratios between the non-survival and survival groups significantly differed (0.67 ± 0.08 vs. 0.42 ± 0.08, p < 0.05). ConclusionsThe (CRL-URL)/CRL and URL/CRL ratios were valuable indicators for determining pregnancy outcomes of pump twins with TRAP at an early gestational age.

ObjectiveTo study the associations between neighbourhood deprivation and fetal growth, including growth in the first trimester, and adverse pregnancy outcomes.DesignProspective cohort study.SettingThe Netherlands, Rotterdam.Participants8617 live singleton births from the Generation R cohort study.ExpositionLiving in a deprived neighbourhood.Main outcome measuresFetal growth trajectories of head circumference, weight and length.Secondary outcomes measuresSmall-for-gestational age (SGA) and preterm birth (PTB).ResultsNeighbourhood deprivation was not associated with first trimester growth. However, a higher neighbourhood status score (less deprivation) was associated with increased fetal growth in the second and third trimesters (eg, estimated fetal weight; adjusted regression coefficient 0.04, 95% CI 0.02 to 0.06). Less deprivation was also associated with decreased odds of SGA (adjusted OR 0.91, 95% CI 0.86 to 0.97, p=0.01) and PTB (adjusted OR 0.89, 95% CI 0.82 to 0.96, p=0.01).ConclusionsWe found an association between neighbourhood deprivation and fetal growth in the second and third trimester pregnancy, but not with first trimester growth. Less neighbourhood deprivation is associated with lower odds of adverse pregnancy outcomes. The associations remained after adjustment for individual-level risk factors. This supports the hypothesis that living in a deprived neighbourhood acts as an independent risk factor for fetal growth and adverse pregnancy outcomes, above and beyond individual risk factors.

In pregnancy, pregnant women have experience with emesis gravidarum about 67.9%. Pregnancy is a natural event. Woman's body will change during pregnancy. Some uncomfortable thing will appear along with physiological changes during pregnancy such as nausea, vomiting, frequent urination, and lower back pain. The most uncomfortable one was nausea and vomiting. Nausea and vomiting were as known as emesis gravidarum. Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is a common symptom and often occurs in the first trimester of pregnancy. Feelings of nausea occur because of increased levels of the hormone of estrogen and HCG in serum.; The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between gravida status and maternal age with the incidence of emesis gravidarum in January-August 2017 at BPM Veronika and BPM Endang Sutikno Kediri. Methods in this research were an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. The population was 120 with a sample of 93 respondents, using simple random sampling technique.;The researcher was collecting the data using the recapitulation sheet from January to August 2017. The result of the gravida status that counted with Chi-Square obtained χ2 count value of 6,8 then at the χ2 table at significance level and df 1 is 3,841 so χ2 value ; χ2 table. The result of maternal age that counted with Chi-Square obtained a χ2 count of 4,26 then at the χ2 table at a significance level of df 1 is 3,841 so χ2 count; 2 table. It can be concluded that there was a relationship between gravida status and maternal age with the occurrence of emesis gravidarum in January-August 2017 at BPM Veronika and BPM Endang Sutikno Kediri.

Asphyxia can lead to complications in babies born including death in newborns. This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal age and gestational age with the incidence of Neonatal Asphyxia in Kaur Hospital. This type of research was Analytical Survey with Case Control design. The population in this study were all mothers and babies born in 2016 as many as 270 people and who experienced asphyxia as many as 68 people. Data collection in this study used secondary data. Data analysis used Chi-Square, Contingency Coefficient and OR analysis. The results showed that there were 68 people (50%) asphyxia with 79 people (58.1%) aged 20-35 years, (3) 84 people (61.8%) mature, there was a significant relationship between the age of mothers with asphyxia in Kaur Hospital was in a close relationship category, and there was a significant relationship between the gestational age of asphyxial mothers in  Kaur  Hospital with the moderate relationship category. It was expected that health workers, especially midwives, can approach every pregnant woman and provide counseling about the importance of regulating maternal age and gestational age before                  the process of pregnancy and childbirth so as to reduce the risk of asphyxia. Keywords: asphyxia, maternal age, gestational age

Objective: To find out the frequency of subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) in our pregnant population during 1st Trimester and the mean TSH level in first trimester of pregnancy. Study Design: Cross Sectional Descriptive study. Setting: Dow University Hospital and Dr Ruth KM Pfau CHK. Period: June 2015 to May 2016. Material & Methods: All Pregnant women with <14 weeks gestation were screened for Serum TSH level. Data were recorded after informed consent and institutional ethical approval. Variables recorded were age, parity, gestational age and serum TSH level. Data were analyzed on SPSS version 16. Mean and SD were calculated for quantitative variables ie. Age, parity, gestational age, serum TSH level and serum free T4 level. Mean TSH level according to age group, parity and gestational age groups were determined by applying ANOVA test. Correlation of Serum TSH level with the maternal age, parity and gestational age groups were also assessed by Pearson Correlation test. Significant P-value was taken as <0.05. Results: The frequency of SCH found was 19.35% by taking cut off limit of <2.5 IU/L and 3.55% by taking cut off limit of <4.5 IU/L among total of 310 pregnant women. Mean TSH level was 1.84±1.36 IU/L. The mean maternal age was 27.22 ± 4.43 yrs. while median parity was 1. Mean gestational age of these patients were 9.41 ± 2.748 weeks and out of these 160 (51.61%) were between 4-9 weeks and 150(48.38%) between 10-14 weeks. Majority (74%) of these women belonged to lower middle socioeconomic class. Mean TSH level coorelation between different age groups, parity groups and gestational age groups were found to be insignificant. Conclusion: The prevalence of SCH is not so high and mean TSH level in our population was 1.84 IU/L. But to establish reference range for Pakistani population, further studies in population of different backgrounds and geographical distribution needs to be evaluated.

Preeclampsia is a condition when hypertension and proteinuria occurs after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The exact cause of preeclampsia is currently unknown, but many factors influence the occurrence of preeclampsia, especially the age factor. This study was aimed to determine the correlation between maternal age and the incidence of preeclampsia. This study was analytical survey designed with retrospective study method. From Aura Syifa hospital, 142 medical records in of pregnant women in 2017 were taken 105 samples by using simple random sampling technique. The result of this study indicated that delivered mothers who were in reproductive age (20-35 years old), 25.8% of them had preeclampsia and 31,1% had severe preeclampsia. The data analyzed by suing chi-square correlation and the result was ρ (0.00) < α (0.05) which meant that there was a correlation between maternal age and the incidence of preeclampsia. It would be better for couples planning pregnancy in healthy reproductive age for minimize the risk of preeclampsia.

Latar belakang Kejadian kasus COVID-19 pada bayi belum banyak dilaporkan dan mekanisme penularan terhadap bayi baru lahir masih belum jelas. Tujuan Melaporkan perbedaan karakteristik bayi baru lahir dari ibu terkait COVID-19 di RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang Metode Penelitian retrospektif dengan data sekunder catatan medik bayi baru lahir dari ibu terkait COVID-19 di RSUP dr Kariadi Semarang pada periode April-Mei 2020 dengan kelompok pembanding bayi baru lahir dari ibu tidak terkait COVID-19. Kriteria inklusi semua bayi lahir dari ibu terkait COVID-19 dirawat di rumah sakit dan dilakukan pemeriksaan PCR dengan spesimen swab nasofaring. Data yang dikumpulkan adalah usia kehamilan, jenis kelamin, berat lahir, cara persalinan, usia ibu dan jenis minum yang diberikan pada bayi. Dilakukan uji beda menggunakan uji chi square dan shapiro wilk. Analisis data menggunakan program komputer SPSS. Hasil Dari 46 sampel penelitian terdiri dari 23 bayi lahir dari ibu terkait COVID-19 dan 23 bayi lahir dari ibu tidak terkait COVID-19 dilakukan analisis dengan hasil tidak terdapat perbedaan bermakna dari usia kehamilan, berat lahir, cara persalinan dan usia ibu. Pada kelompok bayi lahir terkait COVID-19 mayoritas lahir dengan jenis kelamin perempuan (74%) dan jenis minum yang diberikan sekitar 86% dengan susu formula. Tidak ada bayi yang mendapat ASI eksklusif pada bayi yang lahir dari ibu terkait COVID-19. Semua bayi yang lahir dari ibu terkait COVID-19 didapatkan hasil swab nasofaring negatif dan tidak menunjukkan gejala apapun sampai dengan pulang. Simpulan Tidak didapatkan perbedaan karakteristik usia kehamilan, berat lahir, cara persalinan dan usia ibu. Terdapat perbedaan karakteristik jenis kelamin dan jenis minum yang diberikan pada kedua kelompok penelitian. Keyword: bayi baru lahir, COVID-19   Background The incidence of COVID-19 cases in newborn has not been widely reported and the mechanism of transmission to the newborn is unclear. Objective To report the characteristics of newborns from mothers related to COVID-19 at Kariadi Hospital Semarang. Method Retrospective study with secondary data on medical records of newborns from mothers related to COVID-19 at Kariadi Hospital in the April-May 2020 period with a comparison group of newborns from mothers not related to COVID-19. Criteria for inclusion of all infants born to mothers associated with COVID-19 were hospitalized and PCR examination carried out with nasopharyngeal swab specimens. Data collected were gestational age, sex, birth weight, mode of delivery, maternal age and type of dietary given to the baby. Analysis tests were performed using chi square test and Shapiro Wilk. Data analysis using SPSS computer programs Result Of the 46 study samples consisting of 23 babies born to mothers related to COVID-19 and 23 babies born to mothers not related to COVID-19 were analyzed with the results that there were no significant differences in gestational age, birth weight, mode of delivery and maternal age. In the group of babies born with COVID-19 the majority were born with a female sex (74%) and the type of dietary given was around 86% with formula milk. No baby gets exclusive breastfeeding for babies born to mothers related to COVID-19. All babies born to mothers related to COVID-19 obtained negative nasopharyngeal swab results and did not show any symptoms until discharge. Conclusion There were no differences in the characteristics of gestational age, birth weight, mode of delivery and maternal age. There were differences in the characteristics of the sexes and types of dietary given in the two study groups. Keyword: newborn, COVID-19
