A revision of species composition of the genus Sylvaemus in the territory of Mykolaiv Oblast (Ukraine) was carried out. The occurrence of three species was conformed: S. sylvaticus, S. tauricus, and S. uralensis. The species S. arianus was not found in the Kinburn Peninsula. Morphological features, aspects of ecology and biology of the species are given. Sylvaemus sylvaticus dominates in woods and shrubs, S. uralensis prevails in open habitats, and S. tauricus is a non-abundant species occurring only in the forest-steppe zone. The breeding season has only one peak in July. The dependence of the main morphometric features from the age was examined. The most important features revealed are the length of foot (Pl) and ear (Au). Tail length (Ca) has the lowest diagnostic value.

Vertical gardening with different types of vines in modern conditions is important aesthetic and sanitary-hygienic value. It is especially important to address the issues of enrichment of the flora of urban areas with vines in the steppe regions due to poor species composition and a sharp deterioration of the ecological situation. The objects of research were 7 species of lianas, various life forms (annual, perennial), growing in the settlements of the Saratov region (Atkarsk, Saratov). The aim of the research is to study the ecological and biological features and reclamation properties of vines and identify the prospects for their use in vertical gardening residential areas of the Saratov region. In the study, species composition was the most popular species of annual vines: morning glory red-blue (Ipomea tricolor (L.) Roth) and purple morning glory (Ipomea purpurea (L.) Roth), the fragrant pea (Lathyrus edoratus L.), nasturtium (Tropacolum peregrinum L.) and runner beans (Phaseolus coccineus). Most (70%) of them grow in restricted areas. Studied species of vines in the study regions reach average natural performance (with proper care), have good indicators of vital condition, bloom abundantly and bear fruit. When exposed to toxicants of different concentrations on the leaf blades of vines established their degree of stability. It was revealed that the annual vines are better used for decorative purposes, and not in the sanitary-hygienic. A comparative assessment of annual species with perennial vines (maiden grapes and clematis Tangut) shows the stability of perennial species (an average of 3 points-40%). The options and decorative compositions with the participation of herbaceous vines. According to the degree of decoration of the allocated annual vine – Ipomea tricolor, I. purpurea (37 – 41 points), the average degree of differ – Lathyrus edoratus (33 points), Tropacolum peregrinum (30 points) and Phaseolus coccineus (20 to 27 points). The advantage of perennial vines is their resistance to sudden changes in climatic conditions (40 %) compared to annual forms. Therefore, they are more preferable for greening the urban environment. To enhance the decorative effect in the seasonal aspect, it is recommended to combine the expansion of species and form diversity of plants (perennial and annual lianas, tree and shrub, floral vegetation). It is established that the climatic conditions of the steppe and forest-steppe zone within the Saratov region are quite favorable for the normal growth and development of tree and shrub vegetation, including herbaceous lianas. Thus, the reasonable use of wood vines in combination with traditional types of plantings will create comfortable living conditions for the population, regulate the optimal temperature balance and create favorable microclimatic conditions.

The article presents the results of a taxonomic study of the archaeozoological collection from the Zolotoye 1 settlement. The settlement is located in the steppe zone of the Tobol-Ishim interfluve (the Polovinsky District of the Kurgan Region). A significant part of artefacts, including bone remains, belong to the Alakul culture of the Late Bronze Age (17th–16th centuries BC). A small collection (a total of 6 fragmented vessels) attributed to the Alek-seyevka-Sargary culture was also identified. The relevance of this work is determined by the fact that data on the species composition of Alakul archaeozoological collections are predominantly obtained from necropolises, whereas economic characteristics are primarily reflected by materials from the settlements. The study in question was conducted using the paleozoological method. The taxonomic affiliation of bones was determined using the reference collection of skeletons from the Zoological Museum of the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology UB RAS along with corresponding atlases. The conclusion about the taxonomic affiliation of fossil remains was based on the similarities in composition and size between the morphological structures of bones. The age of the indi-viduals was determined by the degree of tooth abrasion and by the attachment of the pineal gland. The studied osteological collection includes 2783 items. In order to define the features of its occurrence considering species composition, a planigraphic analysis was performed. To this end, we used data collected from a digital total sta-tion and field inventories. As a result, it was found that the bone remains belong mainly to domestic animals (99.5 %). Cattle bones (47 %) predominate, followed by the bones of small cattle (34 %) and horses (18 %). Jud-ging by age characteristics, cattle were kept for the production of milk and meat. The remains of wild animals are scarce (0.5 %). They include commercial species (elk, hare, waterfowl), which indicates that the Alakul population was engaged in hunting. The comparison of domestic and wild animals, the composition of the herd from the Zolotoye 1 settlement located in the interfluve area with the archaeozoological collections of the Late Bronze Age from the forest-steppe Trans-Urals revealed their similarity, first of all, with Alakul materials originating from the layer of settlements confined to river systems. This fact reflects the general line of development in livestock breeding of the period under consideration, which suggests that the carriers of the Alakul culture developed stable forms of adaptation to different living conditions.

AbstractWe evaluate seasonal variations at the community level, analyzing changes in species richness, species composition and total abundance, and at the species level, evaluating differences in breeding and molting seasonality among bird species in a forest-steppe ecotone of north Patagonia. The bird assemblage showed a low seasonal variation in richness and total abundance, but a great change in species composition between spring-summer and fall-winter. The change in species composition promoted few seasonal variations in richness and total abundance, because they were compensated by the presence of abundant species that visit the area in different seasons. At the species level, resident birds and short distance migrants tended to begin breeding earlier than long distance migrants, and birds began to molt body and flight feathers after breeding. Therefore, we found a low overlap of these two demanding activities. Our results highlight the importance of bird movements in response to seasonal variations in the availability of resources, which promote migration or local displacements of birds.

A review of the ground beetles of the Ukrainian fauna is given. Almost 750 species from 117 genera of Carabidae are known to occur in the Ukraine. Approximately 450 species of ground beetles are registered in the Carpathian region. No less than 300 species of ground beetles are found in the forest zone. Approximately 400 species of Carabidae present in the forest-steppe zone are relatively similar in species composition to those in the forest territories. Some 450 species of Carabidae are inhabitants of the steppe zone. Representatives of many other regions of heterogeneous biotopes such as forest, semi desert, intrazonal, etc. can be found in the steppe areas. The fauna of Carabidae (ca. 100 species) of the lowlands of southern Ukraine (sandy biotopes), situated mostly in the Kherson region, is very peculiar. The fauna of the Crimean mountains contains about 300 species. Conservation measures for the Carabidae are discussed.

Bird Distribution in Biotopes of Open Agricaltural Lands in Breeding Season Based on comparative analysis of the vegetation structure in fields of different crops and taking into account intensity of land cultivation and types of avifauna communities formed in these fields, we identified five groups of fields in the Left-Bank Polissya and Wood-and-Steppe zone of Ukraine. The greatest number of breeding species and the most abundant species are in the first group (cereals, flax, white mustard, and buckwheat). The largest total average density, the highest average density of breeding species with nesting of two characteristic species is typical for fields of the second group (rapeseed and peas). The smallest proportion of breeding birds and the large dominant proportion were seen in low crops and in dense closed crops (soybean, lupine), these values are slightly higher than those in fields of beet and potatoes.

Goal. To study the spread and severity of slime mold on turfgass in Ukraine. Methods. Field and laboratory methods were used. The research was conducted on two varieties of mixed with different percentage and species composition of cereal grasses. The survey of crops was performed during vegetation in the Polissya, Forest-steppe and Steppe areas. For the identification of pathogen, a selection of plant samples was carried out with further analysis in laboratory conditions. The observations were conducted according to generally accepted methods; spread and severity of disease were determined. Results. The first time in Ukraine revealed damage to the cereal grasses (Physarum cinereum (Batsch) Pers.). Symptoms and morphological characteristics of the pathogen are described. In the Kiev region, in terms of distribution and development, it exceeded other pathogens (30.6—39.0% and 15.4—21.2% correspondingly). In the Kirovograd region, slime mold was observed in 2016 and 2017 at a much lower degree. Its spread was 8.4—10.5% with severity within the range of 3.1—4.5%. In the Zhytomyr region during the period of research symptoms of this disease were not fixed. The most favorable for the development of Physarum cinereum was the growing season of 2017. Conclusions. For the first time in Ukraine, the appearance of disease caused by Physarum cinereum was detected on lawn grasses. The spread of this disease has been noted on both types of grass mixtures. The phytopathological analysis showed that slime mold was the most widespread diseases in the Forest-Steppe zone (Kyiv region), where it dominated in the complex of leaf diseases. In Steppe zone (Kirovograd region) in the period of 2016—2017 it's spread was much lower and in Polissya zone (Zhytomyr region) symptoms of slime mold was not revealed.
