Abstract A method is presented which allows the simultaneous quantitative determination of natural rubber, polybutadiene and SBR in tire components. The method consists in pyrolyzing samples of cured and filled ternary rubber mixtures at 450°–550° C and subjecting the decomposition products to programmed gas chromatography. The quantities of dipentene, vinyl cyclohexene, and styrene formed during pyrolysis are then used to determine the percentage ratio of natural rubber, polybutadiene and SBR in the vulcanizate.

Abstract A gas chromatographic method is described for the quantitative determination of N-butyl-N-ethyl-α,α,α-trifluoro-2,6-dinitro-p-tolindine and α,α,α-trifluoro-2,6-dinitro-N,N-dipropyI-p-toluidine herbicides in formulations. The sample is extracted with benzene, and equal amounts of sample and reference solution in the same concentration range are analyzed by gas chromatography, using an electron capture detector and an SE-30/Diatoport S column. The method has been applied successfully to laboratory-prepared and commercial samples.

Abstract A method has been developed for the quantitative determination of linoleic acid in infant formulas by gas chromatography (GC). A known amount of triheptadecanoin was spiked into the sample. Total lipid was extracted from the product by an ethyl ether-petroleum etherethanol system in a Mojonnier flask. The sample was saponified by methanolic KOH after the solvents were evaporated. Methyl esters of the fatty acids were prepared by boron trifluoride (BF3) in methanol and analyzed by gas chromatography. A glass column packed with 10% SP-2340 (75% cyanopropyl silicone) was used to separate and identify the methyl linoleate and the methyl heptadecanoate. The quantity of methyl linoleate was calculated by comparing the integrated peak areas of these 2 fatty acid methyl esters. This method was satisfactory for both milk protein-based and soy protein-based matrixes. The results obtained by this method are comparable to those obtained by the AOAC spectrophotometric method 28.082- 28.085.

SUMMARY A method is described for estimating oestriol in 2–10 ml samples of human pregnancy peripheral plasma. It incorporates acid hydrolysis, chemical purification, methylation, chromatography on alumina columns, formation of a derivative and quantitative determination by gas chromatography. A radioactive internal standard was added to correct for procedural losses. Plasma oestriol determinations in five normal patients throughout pregnancy and delivery are reported.

Abstract Background: Taraxacum kok-saghyz (TKS), a plant native to the Tianshan valley on the border between China and Kazakhstan and inherently rich in natural rubber, inulin and other bioactive ingredients, is an important industrial crop. TKS rubber is a good substitute for natural rubber. TKS's breeding work necessitates the need to screen high-yielding varieties, hence rapid determination of rubber content is essential for the screening. Conventional analytical methods cannot meet actual needs in terms of real-time testing and economic cost. Near-infrared spectroscopy analysis technology, which has developed rapidly in the field of industrial process analysis in recent years, is a green detection technology with obvious merits of fast measurement speed, low cost and no sample loss. This research aims to develop a portable non-destructive near-infrared spectroscopic detection scheme to evaluate the content of natural rubber in TKS fresh roots. Pyrolysis gas chromatography (PyGC), was chosen as the reference method for the development of NIR prediction model. Results: 208 TKS fresh root samples were collected from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China. Near-infrared spectra were acquired for all samples. Randomly two-thirds of them were selected as the calibration set, the remaining one-third as the verification set, and the partial least squares method was successfully used to establish a good NIR prediction model at 1080-1800nm with a performance to deviation ratio (RPD) of 5.54 and coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.95. Conclusions: This study showed that portable near-infrared spectroscopy could be used with ease for large-scale screening of TKS plants in farmland, and could greatly facilitate TKS germplasm preservation, high-yield cultivation, environment-friendly, high-efficiency and low-cost rubber extraction, and comprehensive advancement of the dandelion rubber industry thereof.
