Abstract The scope of this paper is to review peroxide curing of ethylene-propylene elastomers, where apart from crosslinking, other reactions occur, such as chain scission, which account for the drop in physical properties. The results are compared with an alternative crosslinking system which is being assessed in our laboratory. With the new curing agent the chain-scission reaction is not present and the physical properties of the vulcanizates are improved. The effects of the different crosslinking systems on the reaction transitions are studied with the aid of dynamic mechanical analysis.

The blends of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) with ethylene-propylene-diene copolymer grafted with maleic anhydride (EPDM-g-MA) and organoclay(OMMT) were prepared by melt blending. The composites were characterized by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results suggest that the PTT is immiscible with EPDM-g-MA when OMMT was added to the blends. Strorage modulus of the PTT/EPDM-g-MA/OMMT are higher than those of pure PTT. The melting point of pure PTT and blends was almost constant. The crystallinity of the blends with OMMT were higher than that of pure PTT.

ABSTRACTThis paper describes the blends of epoxy/polybutadiene and the application of the blends to the encapsulation of capacitors. Experiments showed that the hydroxy-carboxyl terminated polybutadiene (HCTPB) had a good toughening effect on epoxy resins, and the blends of epoxy/HTPB or epoxy/HCTPB had good craze resistance at low temperatures. The phase separation and dynamic mechanical analysis of these blends are discussed below.
